It's sad that some americans hate america just because of politicians and forget about youth from all the world that gave their lives to free other countries from tirany. We must remember and pay due respect for those who fought in this terrible war, on both sides, for history doesn't repeat itself and we dont have to lose another generation.

I am 86 yo and was a kid during WW2. During that period Russia and the USA were strong allies and I learned to honor, admire , and respect the Russian people for their terrible sacrifices ... Then, the COLD WAR began an we suddenly were taught to hate each other. But, I tend to think a little deeper and knew that I was being manipulated by propaganda. Anyway, many of us conservative Americans and Russians have much in common that is good. Love of flag, country, family, Christian God, decency, etc. Many of us are aware that Russia has contributed much to the world in art, literature, music, chemistry, physics, mathematics, astronomy and space exploration, geology, archeology, and to medicine, and the social and behavioral sciences. The way things are going in the world today, I feel that many Western Christian nations and some Asians people's will discover themselves again and become allies again against the dark forces still among us. I wrote more than intended, but Russians, I never hated you and always admired your patriotism, sacrifices, bravery, family values, etc. Love, to the Russian people from an 86 yo American.

My grandfather started off in Africa, then Italy, then moved on to Europe. He was a medic. Every Saturday he'd go down to the local VFW and get piss drunk with his other WW2 vet buddies. A police officer who was also a WW2 vet followed him home more than a few times to see he got home without a problem. One time, after a long afternoon at the VFW, my grandmother asked him why he always went out on Saturdays and got so drunk with all his friends. He replied, Because they know me. They get me.....I didn't have a clue at the time but I remembered his reply. 35+ years later, now I know.

A transcript (as best as I make out) "More than ten decades have passed since those terrible days where we endured this mud of the sour, the bitter cold snow and ice of the Ardennes, the dank cellars along the Rhine, the German machine gun fire, the artillery barrages, the constant fighting and killing. Back home in America, the Western Union telegraph lines hummed with those dreaded messages: 'The Secretary of war regrets to inform you that your son, your husband, your father was killed in action.' bringing tears and sadness across our land. We come together today to honor and remember my comrades. We come to honor and remember the 400,000 American soldiers who died in World War 2. Tears still well in my eyes to remember all the friends that I left on the field of battle and the towns and cities of Europe. Not only on Memorial Day or Veterans Day, but many times every day. Why them and not me? Somebody else takes a bullet intended for me? Glory God may we never forget. May this nation never forget the pride of American youth who gave their lives, were wounded or captured or went missing. Over 1500 men are dying every day, and soon we all will have left. The Ardennes woods are silent now. Now, only memories in the dead."

@Guido_XL5 жыл бұрын
Sorry, but the truth is much less heroic than the courage that these soldiers displayed. It was truly heroic to go into battle and live to tell the tale. But, it was unfortunately much less heroic as to how this war came into being. The Third Reich did not declare war on France nor Britain. It was the other way around. The issues with Poland should not have given rise to such a limitless outburst of military conflict. When the German army assaulted France, the war had already made a turn for the worse, as the French and British had prepared for an incursion into Norway and to make a move through France, Belgium and the Netherlands towards Germany. The Third Reich had not endeavoured this war. In fact, if Britain and France had joined forces with Poland in those early September days of 1939, they probably would have defeated the Third Reich already then. The German army strength did not match any combination of its adversaries. WWII was not inevitable. There had been many things that offered opportunities to prevent it.

@@rowaldjansen8927 Excuse me, but the entire Third Reich did not want this war altogether. The conflict with Poland was not intended as some alleged initiation of a world war, as far as the Third Reich was concerned. It was Britain that declared war on Germany, followed by France. Berlin offered peace, as soon as the dust of the Polish incursion began to settle. That offer entailed the return to much of the prewar conditions, with the exception of the city of Dantzig, the Korridor and the connections between East-Prussia and Germany proper. But Britain rejected any such peace offer, allegedly because "the Nazis only want war". We came to adopt this wartime propaganda and take it for granted, whilst ceasing to ask as to how genuine it really was.

Sometimes I wonder what kind of world this would be, were it not for all of the men and women who served in the Allied military forces during the most dark era in the history of mankind. These brave souls embodied the courage, strength, intestinal fortitude, integrity and honor that the vast majority of people can only hope to achieve. I was born in 1962, well after this horrific conflict. I, when I reached adulthood, also served my country. I served with honor, hoping to make these soldiers proud that their sacrifice was not in vain. I have had the honor, during my lifetime, to be in the presence and speak with these absolute heroes. I stand in awe of them, hoping that we are worthy of what they given have to all of us in the World. I also feel extreme sorrow that, very soon, they will all be gone from our presence. To give a thumbs down to this video, is to give a thumbs down to your very own existence. And you should be ashamed.

Are you implying that the Third Reich actually wanted to conquer western Europe and the US from the outset? You seem to be unaware of the fact (yes, fact) that it was not the Third Reich that declared war onto Britain and France, it was the other way around. The declaration of war from Berlin to Washington-DC came much later, when things had already been established and peace was not an option anymore. The decisive set of events revolved around the early days of the war in September 1939, when a combined effort from Poland, France and Britain (with tacit support from the neutral US) could have forced the Third Reich into submission (in fact, the Poles believed that the Third Reich was bound to fall into political shatters once hostilities would commence). When Britain and France did nothing instead, there was still a long period of potential peace to be gained, as the Third Reich offered exactly that, under the condition that the issues around Poland (Dantzig, the Korridor and the connection to East-Prussia) would be maintained according to German intent. Peace was certainly attainable then. War was not inevitable and Germany did not obviously endeavour to "conquer the world" or anything like that.

@@Guido_XL I am glad the war stoped
@Guido_XL5 жыл бұрын
@@JohnDought Oh, but so do I. I believe we have no quarrel about that. The point however is that there was no need for that war in the first place. What the Allied propaganda called "Nazism" was not inclined to conquer the world. Peace could have been retained, if politics and diplomacy of that era had behaved differently. It was not like the Third Reich left the others without any option, although that is exactly what the propaganda made out of this issue. And as far as Japan is concerned, that country did not have a primary quarrel with the US either. Japan however felt pressured to do something against the US involvement in the Pacific Rim. Japan did not want a world war at all. How the Pearl Harbor attack unfolded is still a matter of dispute for a reason.

And you do not seem to have any idea of what the circumstances of WWII actually were. The Third Reich did not try to conquer the world, or anything like that. You seem to have adopted the most hideous propaganda nonsense from that era and taken it for granted.
