I use a 760 in 30-06 at my deer camp up in Lycoming County. Every year, the gun rack at camp is FULL of 760's and 7600's, mainly in 30-06. These old Remington pumps are the absolute best choice for the thick mountain laurel that we drive. Great guns!!! Fantastic shot👍

I reload and use 165 grain Sierra HPBT in my 30-06 and 308. It used to be the 30-06 was more powerful than the 308, but with the advances in gun powder the 308 can run with the 06. Shot placement is always important, even more so with the hollow point bullets. They work extremely well. Congrats.

All I ever hunt with is a 308. This year I went to a ruger American in 308 and for years all I’ve used bullet wise is hornady 178 grain ELDs and I’ve never had to track a deer. When they hit you know from the smack and the obvious fact of the deer dropping right there. And I always love to watch your content!

John, I have watched your videos over the years. Huge fan of your channel! I like that you hunt with your gradfathers old firearms. I think it would be neat to see you get a deer with an old Remington 760 or 7600 pump. This is a very iconic PA deer rifle. Just a suggestion. Keep up the amazing videos.

One of the major benefits of handloading, your able to tweak things in such ways to make calibers more versatile and taylor suited to the distances and terrain you commonly hunt it.

Good shot there! I'll say from a technical standpoint the match bullets can be a mixed bag. As noted already they do shoot very flat. Often they will be very good Expander but some times they can decide to pencil through nearly like an FMJ. Accuracy is their #1 objective obviously and the manufactures don't recommend them for game hunting. So be careful! Still a great shot and a good meat doe! Keep the vids coming!

I shot a doe 2 years ago at 250 holding high on the front shoulder.. most rounds out of a 30-06 are about 7.5 inches low at 300 when zeroed at 200yds or 1.5 high at 100yds... a aim point of high shoulder at 300 will connect easily every time from a 30-06 if the shooter does his part so a 308 would be maybe a inch or two possibly more drop at that distance due to less powder and velocity... congrats nugent on a nice doe and thanks for another great lwo video John... hopefully we'll be seeing a late season flintlock as well lol

I think the way you look for the point of impact and analyze the shot is very instructive. This makes what you are doing different, special, and useful. Also, I like the tip on the Little Debbies, but I don't think that I could bring myself to actually eat one. Can you just carry one for good luck?

I knew he hit it because you can see fur fly on the offside of that first deer. Played it twice and see that both times. If you watch your slow mo a couple times you can see that after the bullet hits the ground on the far side, the fur flies and lands short of that impact point and to the left of it a bit a split second after the bullet impacts the ground.

Hornady has a great ballistic calculator. A 308 is flatter than you think. An inch high at 100 is almost dead on to 200. I can shoot 0 to 225 without changing aim.
@BigRigOutdoors26 күн бұрын
Love your videos, I've been subscribed for a few years, but as a avid long range shooter and reloader, and hunter. I've taken game at some pretty long distances, as an example my longest shot at whitetail is 726yrds, and I've taken a few coyote out to 900yrds. Please don't use the 168gr BTHP match bullet for deer. Expansion isn't reliable on game. The ELDX will be very similar ballistics at most hunting distance, but far more reliable on game.Also for most 308win setups if zeroed 1.5" high at 100yrds it will be all most dead on at 200yrds. I understand your friend has found success using his setup but even a blind squirrel can find a nut, and if he continues to use the horadny 168 BTHP it will fail him. I've taken a handful of deer with that round and a couple of the recoveries weren't the best do to lack of performance of the bullet. Again love the videos wish you guys could breakout the old stick and strings again I miss the traditional archery videos and deer drives.

I would have thought that you would have looked up your drop for the round you are using so you didn’t have to guess where to hold. You owe it to the deer to make an ethical shot and it by guessing.

Hey, don't feel bad, I got into hunting late in life. Took me about 2-3 deer seasons before I got anything. Then last year I sat it out, nothing to transport a possible kill, and this year it was way too cold for me to really hunt. What little I did the first day I got busted, and saw another group when leaving early, and the next time, nothing at all, I couldn't hunt when it was too cold and windy. And work and other plans stopped me from working days where it wasn't that cold.
