Same! I don't miss YT algorithm shoving the same 3 white influencers down our throats. People who really loved makeup stayed making beauty content like Shanygne and people who did it to flaunt wealth or scam us fell off, oh well lmao. JS should be added to FBI terror1st list atp bc I can't deal with "he's a bad person but his makeup is great" when he just puts all shades of one color in a huge palette and calls it a day

We were in a whole pandemic who needed to watch anyone get ready with me when there was nowhere to go. then people started adding up how many coins they were saving. I found out that I can live without a $25 mascara. Who needed a $20 lipstick when your lips are covered. I think things simplified so much more with the look. Especially when we were wearing mask. Even clothes are way less emphasized. some stores have cut in half In half

People who say this were probably just into huge celebrities and not into makeup itself. But it's so funny to see tiktok teens going through the same phases we had a long ago. I agree with new brands. Kosas, Illia, Merit, and Tower28 are constantly sold out from TikTok yet they’re rarely ever mentioned on KZbin

I feel so old watching beauty cycle like fashion lol. When you really think about it, spending 100k for a sponsorship or brand trip is probably still way cheaper than celebrity endorsements. Regardless of how they do it, the main goal is to get brand recognition.

I've been on KZbin since 2011 and saw the inception and downfall of the beauty community on KZbin. I'm not interested in tiktok beauty because they're talking about things that have already been covered by KZbin. I think there's a resurgence because tiktok is targetting people who were our 10 years ago. the younger generation I gaurantee don't remember any of the nonsense from 2014/15/16/17. as a result, the same things are happening in the tiktok space

I was thinking about this recently. Some of my favorite YT OGs aren't posting long-form content anymore, which I prefer, but I'm not mad at them. This internet game is quickly/constantly changing. Short content is the wave right now, generally speaking, and if influencers have/choose to adapt in that way to eat, I'm not going to sit here mad. I'm grown, and it's okay. I don't want to download tik-tok: That's my business, and you know what I do instead of getting mad or commenting in caps lock? Watch their old vids. 🤷🏾‍♀ It's a way to support them still and get what I want. It may be repetitive, but it's alright. Maybe long-form will come back, maybe not. It's my choice not to adapt to the change. I don't feel slighted, and it's weird to me when people feel that way or act like "influencers" aren't allowed to do what's best (or fun) for them. It's not that serious. Also, you nailed the definition of "cancelled." lol. It's so arbitrary.

As someone who's been in this beauty community space since the early KZbin days it's nice to see some OGs returning to this platform, like Jackie Aina and Desi Perkins. But I also love how they're embracing tik tok, especially with Alissa Ashley's return. At the end of the day creators are people, they deal with burnout and go through phases and stages like the rest of us.

Yep. I was never big into the KZbin/Instagram beauty community like that in the first place, so I'm definitely not into the tictoc community now that I'm older. It's interesting to see people not financially tied to the make up/beauty industry get so uptight about it. Like you said, this is your job so it makes sense for you to keep up with it, but the average Joe, why are they so butthurt if the community goes one way or another...

I completely agree with you. I think a lot of the people complaining are older and don't want to adapt with the times and migrate to TikTok. Also, as quiet as its kept, a lot of the OGs have started posting here again.

I think the shift is from creators who didn’t care anymore to the young ones who do. And it’s honestly funny seeing so many creators who were “done” with beauty trying so hard to build their following on tik tok and we can tell it’s not authentic. The new girls are thriving because they enjoy and the OGs are showing us that they’re there for the money

Every platform has specific audiences n, like your fav creator, you have to grow n move when they move IF you wanna still see their content. Some brands and creators have "died off" when the terrain changed. The online culture was maturing because of scandals and then Tik Tok surged in popularity over the pandemic, setting the stage for the re-emergence of beauty content online taking off over on Tik Tok. And the audiences changed. Because the target demographic remains young, but audiences grow older. So the brands and influencers that either didn't adapt to the terrain or that just don't vibe with the new generation, they fell off. And continue to fall off. So the answer is yes and no. The climate changed and those who don't evolve get left behind.

Maybe I'm pessimistic but I feel like youtubers took breaks partially bc of burnout but mainly because it'd be insensitive to sell products to people while they are suffering from the pandemic. I feel certain gurus realised they can't do that and instead of just making less consumerist content while riding out the pandemic they just stopped completely and took it as a sabbatical opportunity... during the pandemic lots of smaller creators made content, they just stopped pushing codes and promoting shopping and used it as a chance to entertain and connect with their audience. Like as soon as businesses open up and we're all beginning to live post-covid you suddenly have the urge to make content again? Everyone else has been forced to work and make ends meet whereas you (not you shanygne) were a homebody living in a luxurious home before the panny, you don't commute to an office or need to interact with many people, you don't have staff... sorry i just can't believe all the returning to youtube vids (i do get that some creators have teams and may not be able to keep paying them when they cannot make as much as they did before during the pandemic so they just cease completely tho)
