She was just as emotionally abusive towards Frostpaw as Viren was to Soren. She sacrificed herself to save her daughter. But that doesn't absolve you of your crimes against your children. I think Soren not having a reaction isn't the writers forgetting that. I think it's them showing you can have any type of reaction to death and it's valid. Soren and his father were NOT close. I certainly didn't expect him to fall to his knees suddenly over Viren.

Regarding LoK tho, the endgame ship could have been very well received if proper set up had been given to Korrasami and if we didn't have the stupid Korra/Mako/Asami love triangle. But for Kataang, some people were never gonna like that ship cuz it involves a 12 year old with a 14 year old, not to mention that some people felt like it was one sided as the relationship was mainly from Aang point of view. Kataang was never gonna be universally loved but Korrasami was hindered by the executives who didn't allow it to be built up from season 1.

What I've noticed is the writers' obsession with cute animal sidekicks, it's excessive. I mean season 1 you start with Bait, whatever cute animal sidekicks are a thing so yeah. Season 2 we get the titular dragon prince. Still fine, he's cute and useless but is the titular character. Season 4 gives us Rayla's cute animal sidekick. Season 5 gave us THREE baby toads. Season 6 threatened us with Claudia getting one but thankfully no.

Honestly for all the flaws of the Dragon Prince, the only characters that kept me invested were Rayla, Virum, Soren and Claudia. And of course the Big man himself Aaravos! These characters like the most fleshed out and tragic characters. Well Viren and his children are anyways but Rayla’s arc has her own share of juicy angst. Basically the story of a Corrupt High Mage who dabbled in Dark Mage who genuinely had good intentions but you know the ol saying the road to Hell with good intentions. Soren is alive is because of Viren (and Claudia’s later on) skills in Dark Magic in an ironic truth.

You know, as much as I enjoyed Viren’s storyline and “ending” this season, there was something about the start of it that rubbed me the wrong way: Why did he just abandon Claudia like that and leave her alone? Especially since issues with familial abandonment are, like, her whole thing, and another family member leaving would make it significantly less likely that she’ll go back on the “right path.” I understand him wanting to take responsibility and face justice for his crimes. But dude, you manipulated her into joining up with you in your crimes as “Daddy’s Little Villain.” The way she is right now is 100% on you! At least put in SOME effort to halt her descent into madness, which you could have put a stop to ANYTIME before, instead of just leaving after giving some vague advice.

Well because Viren realized that Claudia was following his example, and for her to follow a better example he had to SET a better example. Show her the path he wants her to follow, by DOING what he wants her to do. So he takes full responsibility for his actions, abandons dark magic, gives himself up, confesses everything, in the hopes it will get the message across to Claudia this is what she needs to do. Also, he realizes it is his presence in her life that screwed her up, and he's afraid that if he stays, he once again inadvertently harm her and put her on a darker path.

One thing that still has me miffed about is Callum, and specifically what happened to his ambition. Since when you look back after his love for his friends and family ambition was his biggest trait, to learn magic. He had some offscreen evolution with his sky magic, 2 years all that fair, then he mentions he's been learning about the Ocean arcanum, payoff for S5, then he just stopped? He visited the star scrapper, the closest one can be the stars, surrounded by a culture based on stars and he never asked about the arcanum. Or during the 2 year time jump, he never asked the sunelves about the fire arcanum, the same elves who's queen is marrying his aunt? Or Ludan with Moon etc. So outside of earth and sky at the time, there no excuses for why he couldnt do it. Maybe I got it wrong, but Callum looks clearly to be a foil to Aaraovs, a simple mortal, compared to a beeing from the heavens, who did the impossible by learning multiple arcanums on his own, not given them, and more by being a human no less.

The thing with Callum's ambition is that the show sets up Arcanums as something that sort of comes to you because it's not supposed to be something you learn. Even the elves themselves don't exactly understand how it works.

Firstly back in season 2 with Ludan they explained why the elves dont really understand it, its bc they are born with it, so never bothered to try to understand it, which they can, as Ludan somewhat did in that same season. And then in season 5 Callum was actively searching to connect to the Ocean arcanum, not just study the magic, and with his lack of ambition in S4 and also S6 its very clear the only purpose it had was so someone could face Finnegrin in the end, not bc it was just something the character would naturally do. And I get your point that they just come to you, but you still have to put in the work to try and understand/learn them (as Callum did for both Sky and Ocean) and one day it will come to you, but im talking about that work, thats missing, im fine if he doesnt have them already, wished they at least showed him working for it when he could've.

@@khaens1116 yeah I'm surprised the makers of ATLA would be the ones failing at this sort of aspect when similar principles are being used to master the 4 elements for Aang as it was for Callum to connect with the Sky and Ocean arcanum. They literally could just give Callum training similar to how Aang masters the elements but to Callum its how to access it instead of mastering it. That could literally solve the padding issues that are prevalent in Seasons 4 and 5. Callum's arc to gaining access to all arcanums as well as Ezran's role in being a peacekeeper also has been done better in ATLA through one character that they've already done and it saddens me to think about.

@redroman4214 Maybe they wanted to move away from the structured magic system and make the magic more intuitive, though I think they could have tried taking more inspiration from the idea of cultivation in Chinese Wuxia and Xianxia fantasies. In those stories, human magic is generally based on who they study under or the cultivator's personal philosophy, but spirit spells generally depend on the spirits' original form (one concept of spirits in Chinese culture are ordinary plants and animals that can obtain a human form through cultivation an example in folklore is "The Legend of the White Snake.")

Another issue with this show is that Calum and Ezran are royalty. They have access to money but never carry any on their adventures so they have to beg for free stuff all of the time. "Please sir, Im a king in need of this ship to save the world" /"You got any money?"/ "No"/"Okay give me your pet frog"/ "No!"/ "I thought you said the world was at stake? Is your frog more important than the world?" / Two hours later the wealthy king steals the pirates frogs and jeopardizes the mission all because no one brings money with them on these adventures!

Not just that, Ezran is never really acting like a King. Like the Sunfire Elves attack other Sunfire Elves, he is a guest there, but he somehow decides, that not only is this struggle his very personal problem, but that HE PERSONALLY TOGETHER WITH ANOTHER HUMAN QUEEN SHOULD GO AND NEGOTIATE WITH THEM. Like in no world would any King ever do that personally. They would send a trusted negotiator. And I mean that's not the only time he does that, he also leaves his kingdom to go on an adventure finding some Earth Dragon. I think overall they missed the chance to make Ezran be the "political" main character. They should have given him a more diplomatic role that tries to work on supporting Calum and Rayla from the backlines while also negotiating with all the Elves to improve relations. Not only would this have given him a more proactive role befitting a King, it would have also been the perfect opportunity to connect the Sunfire Elves storyline from the start. You could have involved a main character and connect it more with the overarching plot by proxy. Oh also let me rant about how stupid it is that he makes the chef a "royal council member chef" or something. Like that scene if I remember correctly starts off Season 4 and immediately you get the feeling of him just "playing" King in his playroom. And like that COULD work, if you where telling a story about him being kind of a puppet to the council and go from there, but they aren't telling such a story. Every action Ezren takes feels like he has literally no responsibility and he NEVER gets called out on it/has any consequences.

Personally the way the Sun Elf arc ended kinda made me forgive alot of it. Like I was legit done so much with the brother, seeing his smug smile dissapear and replaced with dread felt so satisfying to me, made all the better by the fact that his last thoughts before getting trampled to death were probably that his god had forsaken him and history will remember him as the biggest loser that ever existed.

While I'm happy Rayllum is back together, it just kinda annoys me the two never have a true heart to heart with each other about Rayla leaving. The only thing they give is their reunion in season 4 but any animosity Callum is allowed to have is shut down before it can even start, like when he got mad at Rayla and Stella growled at him. There's never a moment where the two hash out their feelings with each other, how upset Callum is that she abandoned him or how sorry Rayla is for doing it. Also, I totally agree that the Sunfire Elf plot line was just artificial drama. The signs were clear from Season 4 where the humans, in the two years they lived with the fire elves and fire creatures, never stopped to consider that maybe their encampments should be fire proof and the fire elf not doing the sensible thing and just moving his ritual outside of the camp.

My take on it: Callum is taking the polite way out because he doesn't want to lose Rayla. He thinks by not thinking about it then Rayla won't hurt him again or will stay with him or both. He thinks that by being assertive about boundaries then Rayla will leave him permanently,so he's just letting (almost) anything slide

Amaya's reaction to the candle thing doesn't make much sense either. She's expected to become the Sunfire elves consort and makes jokes about one of their traditions. I think they could have done something akin to the first segment of Disney's "Cinderella 2" where she had to learn the traditions for her new royal duties. The film might have showcased the traditions as silly and outrageous, but at least Cinderella was trying.

The worst part about this series is that a Raylum breakup couldve worked. It’s natural for people to change & push & pull apart. But in this series specifically it feels like they just put a full stop on a healthy relationship for no reason other than not wanting to write it. I’m still not over them being broken up in a comic. This season was fantastic but I’m still not over them taking a two season detour in quality, it’s similar to how Legend of Korras second season was a mess but then the third & fourth were good. It is possible that Ez switched the pearls before Callum and Rayla left, against the better judgment that the pearl should not be kept in Katolis. He is still young after all, a big mistake like this might insight some insane character growth for him. Evidence for this theory is limited unfortunately. Mostly just speculation on what went down between Ez and Callum when Callum told Ez the fake pearl plan and the face Ez made when Callum and Rayla left for the Starscraper. It is just a theory after all. It is possible that Aaravos really did affect Callum again and Ez had nothing to do with it, but I think having Ez be the one to fumble here will be a really compelling narrative in season 7. We will just have to wait and aee

That Sun Elves side story these past few seasons ate up way too much precious time. In hindsight, I would have much preferred Kim’dael being the main villain of the ongoing side story from seasons 4 to 6 instead of Karim, or Prince B-Plot, as I like to call him. Seriously, every time that guy was on screen this season, I was thinking to myself “Why are we focusing on this boring guy instead of giving Aaravos more screen time? Can Sol Regem just eat him or incinerate him already, please?” Kim’dael, while not being much of a “complex” villain, has far more presence and charisma than Karim does and would have been a way more imposing threat in terms of power as well.

I feel like the authors played too heavily on keeping Aravos mysterious. They can't actually give him screen time without fleshing him out, and his biggest appeal is him being the puppet master pulling strings in the background; his manipulating others. If he takes center stage he loses a lot of his appeal, since half of his interactions are reliant on letting others see only the parts of him he wants them to see.

This season had a similar issue that seasons 4 and 5 had: Not enough Aaravos! That guy just oozes charisma, wisdom, and mystery; and they spent too much time focusing on Prince B-Plot as a villain instead of gracing our screens with more Aaravos. The Season 6 finale just added on to how great a villain he is. The reveal of his tragic backstory and motive along with him FINALLY being set free at the end kept Season 6 from just being yet another season of snail-paced build up like the previous two seasons.

I totally agree!!!!! Aaravos is the star of this show! This whole phase is called "Mystery Of Aaravos." How can he be absent in most of the episodes? That's the error they committed, putting lots of stuff that doesn't matter at all and no one cares (like Karim) and not giving us content that truly matters, like Aaravos lore, star elves lore, a more complicated and well written journey to discover where Aaravos prison is and how they're going to free him and etc. Seasons 4 and 5 were a waste of time to me!!

I imagine that integrating Karim as a villain was mostly to add conflict to Janai and Amaya's relationship, but it doesn't even make that much sense for the settlement to have problems with the candle tradition with the time skip. Not to mention, if Amaya intends to become the Sunfire elves queen consort, she shouldn't have joked about a sacred tradition to her future people. I think a good example of how it could have been done better is in the first segment of Disney's "Cinderella 2." She had to learn all sorts of new traditions because of her new duties as a princess, and while the film showcases them as being silly and outdated, Cinderella was actually trying to get it right. Why not have Amaya and Janai learn about each other's cultures and appreciate them instead? It would be a pretty sweet way to deepen their relationship, and it could introduce some world building elements. I know interspecies conflict is a theme in the show, but they could become an example to thrive for instead of giving them another villain to fight.

I will bring up the elephant in the room. Why is the show still called the Dragon Prince? Zim is less of a character than Ezran. His whole side quest this season was kind of lame, unless the dragon queen is going to have some big pop off in the last season. The backpedaling with this show is frustrating. You have the consequences of what will happen to Viren explained all last season and hovering over everything. Get to the first episode, first episode description even teases that he will die. Build up to find a corpse in the woods, only to completely, and no pun intended, veer away. His sacrifice in the end was cool, but I was literally yelling at the screen when Claudia suggested just resurrecting him again. The backpedaling with her and Terry was weird. And I will share the frustration everyone else has been saying. Show gets really dark and really good, not mutually exclusive, in season three. Then immediately dials it down for two seasons. To try and kind of maybe get there for season six. Revealing the heart of cinder spell is temporary was also kind of dumb. Fully introducing your main villain this late is also weird. Season three ended with the cliffhanger of what will be in the cocoon, and for a hot while I thought what would hatch would be Aaravos, one of the best literary decisions I've ever seen. Nope. Some weird half elf half bug guide monster. That gets murdered off screen. Lot of frustrations. Hope someone is reading this.

My theory has always been that they didn’t properly plan out TDP, one of the best examples is that Rayllum wasn’t even planned. When you know that, you realize how rushed their relationship was, and also how pointless it was because they got broken up anyways. The comics are just side stories and you won't be missing much if you don't read it. Everything about the series great from start to finish, the setting, how they build up the world, literally each and every episode was good. There was like one filler episode and it was one of the best in the series. The dragon prince on the other hand has nearly the same amount of episodes in total and yet I feel it could have covered the same amount of story in half the time. The entire last 3 seasons can be skipped through, you won't be missing much.

Yeah...the dragon prince has always been mid to me, but they have enough good elements that I keep coming back (these elements being Claudia and Veron and Eravos). My main issue is the tonal shifts. The show cant decide if they want to be a PBS kids show with "lets save the day with jelly tarts" or be an adult swim program with people having their limbs chopped off blood and all. This season was actually pretty decent and I like how they redid Rayla and Calums relationship - it felt forced to me in the early seasons and I could not stand Calum as a character- hes better now. I HATE the sun elf sub plot. It has been bad throughout the last two seasons. The queen sun elf is a terrible leader; her wife is a mary sue; and they were more concerned about their marriage than the elves who are living in a refugee camp on the border with humans shooting microaggressions at them eveyday while they cant return home due to corruption magic. The queens brother wasnt perfect and an obvious bad guy but he had his people in mind more than she did and was focused on building the sun elves moral with keeping their culture intact and rebuilding while the queen wanted to build moral by "everyone stop and come to my wedding and be happy for me!" The world doesn't revolve around you! Pass the crown to someone else or at least make the Sun Elf Kingdom a democracy of some sort so good decision can actually be made! I just feel like the leadership in the Sun Elf kingdom is selfish on both sides. The actual Sun Elf people are at the whims of two weak siblings who cant get their ish together and they suffer for it and it really irks me- kick the queen out in the desert along with her brother.

In this season (as any other one) Callum and Rayla's scenes have been so boring... I've been watching this show for the villains and other character's subplots, but never have I felt the urge to just fucking skip Rayllum scenes as much as this season. They made a world, started playing the sandbox (cough sun elves political intrigue story), then realized they needed to write a compelling story and quickly went to tie up all the loose ends (kill off homunculus to avoid that ethical exploration, end the sun elf subplot, resolve Viren's arc, resolve love dramas) and refocus on Aaravos without taking his story more slowly. This critique is done well so I only want to bring up two points I feel it missed that are worthwhile to discuss. 1) In the early seasons, learning the arcanum (the secret of the primal sources that allowed magic to be cast without a magical object) was a central theme for Callum to be the first to master magic. The arcanum's were mysterious, interesting, and philosophical (the sky and ocean arcanum were discussed in depth in earlier seasons). The subplot about mastering magic (and about life's complexities) was abandonned. However, at the end of season 6 both Claudia and Callum cast what appears to be star magic (look at the color of the glyph and the nature of restoring a soul). Additionally, it had to be case with "love." I believe the writers originally planned to have the star arcanum be "We are, all of us, stardust... held together by love, for an instant." But, arcanum are by design confusing and difficult for a young audience to understand. So this aspect of the show was completely abandoned. Now Callum et al. will be able to cast any magic as is needed by the story without this constraint established in the earlier seasons. And Claudia casting this spell... couldn't she only cast dark magic? I guess she is the second mage to master a primal source! 2) Rayla is the light that can fill the dark hole left in Callum's soul by dark magic. That is his "deep truth" is that he loves her and that is all that matters. This is bad message to send to kids. To satire the message and show my point: "If you have soul crushing problems, then find your prince/princess who can kiss you and yall can live happily ever after." Wrong, a person's inner truth (read: worth) is never tied to someone else or external, romantic love. Love is significant but it isn't everything and often isn't enough on its own. Avatar the last airbender did this concept well when the final chakra required Aang to let go of his earthly attachment to Katara and embrace a cosmic self and perspective, which Aang actually rejects in the episode. I have more thoughts but this comment is already a bit long.

I am so confused about that spell in the last episode. We can see that this spell requires components eg bones and I thought only dark magic required those? I thought dark magic was considered bad because it needs those components taken from animals and nature but now it looks like Callum can cast a spell that uses those components and it's suddenly not wrong?

Thinking a bit more on this, I realized that a valid interpretation could be that the Quasar diamond could act like a primal stone (like the storm primal stone in season 1). This could bridge the gap as to why Claudia and Callum could cast star magic. It is a little unusual because the diamond was also a spell component and Aaravos told Claudia it also required love to cast the spell (which the primal stone should remove the need to understand the arcanum). However, this interpretation is cleaner than the alternatives and by occum's razor, I'm going with it.

An ordinary Dragon wouldn't be too much of a threat. It might cause some casualties but it couldn't destroy a kingdom on its own. The young red Dragon caused a fair bit of damage to a town but she was defeated before she hurt too many people. An Archdragon is a whole different matter. They are separated from normal Dragons for a reason. Avizandum could obliterate entire armies on his own and Rex Igneous even emphasized how easy it was by saying he was "stomping on ants". Viren had to prepare a specific spell beforehand and only barely managed to hold Avizandum back long enough for Harrow to land the killing blow. Avizandum would have shrugged off an ordinary spear as casually as a paper cut and crushed both of them like every other "ant" he had stomped on over the centuries. Fortunately for the "ants" who lived in Katolis, Sol Regem was blind and although Aaravos was guiding him through Pharos, that's not as reliable as being able to see with his own eyes. Sol Regem had no way of truly knowing who or what he was hitting. Heck, he might have assumed he was helping Karim's army until Aaravos spoke to him. Another detail that saved Katolis' people is that Sol Regem needed to recharge after each fire blast, which is likely because he was ancient even by Dragon standards. When he killed Ziard, he charged very quickly but that was while he was still in his prime. Younger Dragons can fire off repeated blasts without difficulty. Those two crucial aspects kept people alive long enough for Viren to perform his spell but if Sol Regem were younger and still had his eyesight, everybody in Katolis would have been dead. The fact that he was still enough of a threat for Soren to order a full evacuation despite being handicapped really emphasizes how powerful a single Archdragon is.

I think with Claudia, they’re setting up to explore her relationship dynamic with Terry more. Personally, I think it’s going to go in the direction of a somewhat unhealthy relationship, where Terry gives much more than he receives back, and the relationship will come at his own expense. Maybe he’ll have to learn that letting Claudia go would’ve actually been the best course of action- not only for himself but for her as well, as she is clearly unstable. I doubt she’ll take it well, though, and the fallout that is for Claudia may be what the story is leading up to.

I also hope they'll call out how toxic Terry is with his "unconditional support", I would love for him to snap and say "no, I'm not going to just sit by and agree to this!" And realizing his "loving support" rather than voicing any sort of reason to her is what's progressed her into where she is, how damaged she is. She has lost a leg and it's because no one who she trusts has actually considered her well being to help her get out of the bind she's in. Terry has even been uncomfortable but instead of telling her to stop for them, he just asks if she's sure and says he'll support her wherever she goes- which isn't what a healthy couple does. I'd absolutely love to see this happen though I'm not hopeful, it probably will just be Terry whining that he gives everything and she takes instead of looking at the interesting nuance of their relationship. It's loving, it's sweet, but no ones brushing their teeth in the metaphorical sense, so the cavities are coming in.

There's so much kissing, like I mean it is too much for a kid's show. It's like 10 mins of kissing screentime combined in the entire show. Their powers and the plot are sometimes inconsistent. Viren swore to never use dark magic yet next episode he did exactly just that. Ezran also keeps talking no jutsu which is getting annoying.

i was waiting for this one. as someone who’s been with tdp for a hot minute, after the mess that was season four and attempted redemption arc that was season five, season six was a welcome change in the sense that it felt like better season three. it was darker, with more on the line and the stakes are higher than ever before. from an interview, season seven is revealed to have a strong ezran focus, so you might get what you’re hoping for. plus, i’d love to see that rayllum video.

Take note that the writers, thought season 3 would've been the end since it took a while before netflix green lit for the next seasons and they were not prepared for it since it was months after season 3 for the green light so of course theh cant make a perfect season because they had to rebuild the story to fit the time skip

For me honestly, I loved this season. While it does have some small flaws, they were very avoidable. I also loved how they slightly improved the narrative structure by not dumping multiple subplots in one episode like the previous seasons. Instead, most of the episodes have only 2 plots minimum and only one scene of another. Overall, this season slapped and it makes me looking forward into season 7! Also, please do a Rallyum video!! We need it!!

My mom is a Neftlix translator and she got to do the Ukrainian subtitles for this series season 6 about a year ago and this was her (and mine) first interaction with the series and ahe kept gushing about how good it was. Causing me and my friends to watch the series turns out it's pretty good but starts to fall of later but I already knew that the next season would be good because of my mom and I had to convince my friends , after finaly watching it now (I only got to see some scenes before) I am sure it was definitely worse the wait.

I honestly hate season 6. As an example, the entire sun-fire elf plot turns out to be going nowhere. Janai's dumb*ss brother doesnt equip his army with shields and then Sol Regem abandons him. So he just gets folded. Basically a season's worth of subplot that gets resolved in a second. The worst part is that Sol Regem gets folded by some ballista that he could've flown overhead of. Again, I feel like I'm punished for bothering to pay attention to anything or ever get invested in the villains. They get destroyed by the weakest plot devices lmfao

He’s blind and so he relies on the elf on his head to guide him. The elf on his head was under the control of Aaravos, who wanted him dead. Paid attention my foot. My absolute least favorite thing is when writers try to bash their audience over the head with their "themes" and "messages". Both are supposed to be introduced and conveyed subtly, and considering that this season was produced and partially written by the same person as ATLA makes it feel much worse. I disliked season 4 because of the bad writing. Season 5 was alright, mostly because of Finnegan. I hated this season for its not-so-subtle messaging and lack of commitment to make any of the villains or potential villains interesting AND for not giving Aaravos more screentime.
