Umm...most actors do unless told not to. Its the writers/directors/etc who are the problem.

@@kittenmasaki I'm not sure that's necessarily true. I think many, or maybe even most don't actively disrespect it, but you rarely hear them talk about it, that's for sure. That extends to the showrunners and writers too. With Fallout, you can see that passion from everyone and it is reflected in the show itself. Lore purists can complain about details all they want, but they can never say that anyone related to this show does not care about the source material or it's fans. I guess that's what is really really rare, sadly.

That's why Henry Cavil was also so good at playing Geralt. And sadly that's was also why he left.... Don't understand why some producers just cannot stick with the original material, and always try to push some bs in the project. I mean, the KNOW the audience WON'T LIKE.

@@soniccinos Hubris, sheer fucking hubris. They don't like the source material and/or think that it should be used to push some modern agenda. Witcher is excellent example of that. Or Amazon's Lord of the Rings. I'm convinced that everyone who is involved in it actively hates Tolkien and his work.

I don't think it's important for the actors to have played a game for an adaptation but I do think it's important that the directors and writers have. They need to know the way the game's world feels so they can figure out a way to bring it to life. You can't get that from reading a synopsis or watching a video on the internet.

I've watched, i would say high chance the directors have played the game, they nailed it with little details and reference from the game, not to mention they also works with Todd himself. Not a perfect series, but i would give it 8.5, definetly better than most game adaptation tv show out there.

The reason this show is so successful is because you can tell everyone invested in the source material. The actors know so much about the games unlike other shows or movies where you ask an actor a question and they have no clue what the game or comic book is about. Fallout tv show is amazing! Season 2 gonna be epic!

One of the sweetest things I've seen on the internet in a LONG time was the VA for Aerith playing Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and hearing her voice come from the character from the first time. It was genuinely wholesome in so many ways. But I also think that it would depend on the person and the character they played. Personally, I would LOVE to watch these two play Fallout 3. NV, or 4 separately and then get them together to discuss how their playthroughs were different from the other.

Fallout was the first game-TV adaptation I've play then watched in a long time that didn't break that world. We need more like this, with writers, etc that cleared love and honored the source material. Maybe that's a low bar, but it's one that almost all recently have failed miserably at, most memorably 'the witcher'.

Got more intrigued as the trailers aired (and bonus points for the trailers teasing the show rather than spoiling it) When I watched the show, I was blown away, SO well done. Fantastic little interview! BRILLIANT first couple of questions, because it is no where near as important if actors have played the videogame, as much as it is that the game director is involved, the film/tv crew understand what it is they are making, much like any other series.

The Last of US TV is a great example of the actors/team following the game and it being perfect because it was designed to be the same thing while Fallout TV and game are designed to be different but in the same universe

I think it really depends on the game itself, last of us had such an amazing story that has very concise plot points to it. It doesnt need to be changed, and another story in the same universe doesnt make sense. Whereas fallout, the games are so good not because of a specific games story, although those are good, but because of the world of fallout. The lore behind it, so it makes a lot of sense to create a new story with the world.

Fallout has a distinct feel and aesthetic. The subtle dark atmosphere and subtle comedy and feel of the world are embodied in the games. Playing through a few hours of one of the games gives a great depth of understanding of what it is to live in that world. It's not another dystopian story, it has its own feel and narrative. Well worth researching for anyone on the crew of the show.

The same thing happened with The Last Of Us and it was excellent, partly because it is important to analyze your character, especially if it is already written, but another thing is that the same developer, director or The video game company gives you the story or the script of the character and you can capture the essence, and that concludes in one thing, the ability or dedication of the actor.

If your playing it now there is a hidden revolver on the map in an unmarked location . If you look at the map and go to the island (not the one in the ocean) that has a single road going to it follow the road to the main land. Then tiny bit to the left there is river on the map. on that corner is a hidden bunker with a gun called the gainer.

Obviously i have no experience in this as an actor, but if i had to guess, in a situation like this where an actor is playing a role for a video game character in the Fallout world, i don't think playing the games is that important for them. The story and the script are in front of you - so what would an actor be able to contribute to that? It's incredibly more important for the writers, set designers, producers, etc. to have played the games and understood the world they are building around.

I've never played it myself but I've watched playthroughs and read my cousin's comics, he's been playing the games for years. What I'd like to know is when will someone create a Mass Effect series and or movies starring Commander Shepherd and the crew of the Normandy? I could see Ella playing Shepherd's most popular love interest Liara T'Soni, just paint her blue and slap some tentacles on her head, viola, you have everyone's favourite sexy Asari scientist, and Aaron as Jacob Taylor, he's already got the space soldier experience.

My opinion is that actors should know (at least in part) the background of the world they are being portrayed in, in order to give the best performance possible. Imagine Viggo Mortensen not having read LOTR when he took the role for Aragorn.

While it is important for actors to understand, what is it they are bringing from one format to the other, it is primarily director's, producer's and writer's job to learn the source material. When they don't - we get Witcher. When they do - we get this. While I don't like beth and what they've done to the lore, you can clearly see that authors knew what they're doing. A lot of scenes look like they could exist even in two original Fallouts.

I don't think anyone expects actors to know everything about the games, but at least watching some playthroughs is informative about the TONE of the games. Fallout isn't just your standard post-apocalyptic dystopian world. It's retro-futuristic based on an alternate timeline starting in the 50s, where all those weird funky ideas about nuclear powered cars, quirky houses and people and a certain dark humour. The humour isn't stupid it's very subtle and I think knowing a bit about this alternate world would be very helpful about how to approach the character.

While I understand and mostly agree with what you say, we often forget that these people are simply actors, in terms that they audition, get the script and focus on the role they've got to play. It's on producers and directors to immerse them in the world and tell them how to play a certain character. Not everyone is Henry Cavill and even he got on the wrong end of the stick by pretty much being the only one who knows "The Witcher" by heart and was fighting against butchering the lore by higher powers involved. My point is - actors being familiar with the franchise is much less relevant than whether those who wrote the script and are pulling the strings approached it with love and respect. On that subject I also don't blame Morfydd Clark for terribly written Galadriel in the abomination of the show that was "Rings Of Power". She simply did what the (shitty) script demanded her to do.

with that British accent she's even cuter, I didn't think it would be possible but it is. Both of them are good actors, the entire show has a pretty competent cast in terms of acting ability. That's what carries the show and makes it more believable, the comedy aspect was an intelligent move because Fallout the game has a lot of humor to it. It's tongue in cheek to begin with but still takes itself seriously, that's what makes it fun.
