Dame and his team should have handled the situation like Paul George did with OKC. Quietly ask for the trade directly to the executive and both teams can work out a deal behind the scenes. But with dame publicly saying Miami is where he wants to go it gave the heat this entitlement and made them stubborn to give more and made the blazers salty and didn’t want to give dame the satisfaction of giving into his demands like that. Also the blazers are letting other teams know you don’t have to give in to superstar demands so easily, be patient and exhaust every resource

I'm excited for Ayton getting the opportunity to spread his wings on a young roster, I'm excited for what assets Portland will get for Holiday, and I'm excited for Dame getting a legitimate chance at several rings even if it isn't with Miami. Now this is just speculation, but as an NBA fan the only thing from my perspective that Miami could have done was be more aggressive in finding a third team to send Herro to. The Suns were trying to get a starting quality center and add bench depth. I assume you're talking about the Chris Haynes report? If so I wouldn't trust what he says regarding the Suns. Remember he's the one who claimed they were waving Chris Paul right before he ended up being traded for Beal. He must have unreliable sources for Suns info. MDJ had a great video breaking down what Miami’s “All-In” offer could’ve been, and Milwaukee’s was slightly better. Portland is a franchise that doesn’t tank completely; the Blazers are the Pacers of the Western Conference. Portland was never going to be interested in max number of draft picks. I think one thing that Miami is overestimating about itself is how close they are to a championship, as currently constructed. They need another star AND key pieces. Yes, they went on an improbable playoff run and made the Finals but they had to get through the play-in (and were one quarter from being eliminated) and despite being up 3-0 in the ECF and getting a 1-1 split in Denver, ultimately the Heat lost 7 of their final 9 games. The Heat need to (1) make moves to fill out their roster; as the Lakers and Suns have shown, there are guys out there who are available. (2) Be competitive enough to get the sixth seed or higher. I think they could’ve pulled the upset over Denver had they not played essentially two extra rounds in the play-in and been forced to a 6th & 7th game vs. Boston.

This whole "the guys know Miami was shopping them" thing is nonsense. Shopping Duncan Robinson is NOT the same as shopping Jaylen Brown or something. What is Duncan Robinson gonna do? He's gonna stop playing hard and tank his career to get revenge? He's gonna demand a trade? If anybody WANTED Tyler Herro or Duncan Robinson (and their bad contracts) they'd be gone. All they can do if they've got a problem with "getting shopped around" is play great and hope to go somewhere else. But the fact of the matter is that if Tyler Herro or Duncan Robinson pull some disgruntled "James Harden" BS, they'll be out of the league when their contracts expire. They both know it Some side notes for everybody gushing about how "amazing" this trade is for everybody. 1) Milwaukee - I'll just say it. Dame is overrated. He's a big fish in a little pond. He's had free reign and put up huge numbers on a team that was completely built and run around him for a long time. And the last 3 years or so, he can't stay healthy. He's a small guard and he's breaking down. And just for laughs, Jrue Holiday shot it better from 3PT range than Dame did last year. Look it up. 2) Portland - A lot of this depends on what they get for Jrue and maybe that evens it out. But they could have gone back to Miami for a better offer after securing this 3-teamer. That would have gotten Jacquez and Jovic and the other picks thrown in if that's what they wanted. Now they've got long-term money tied up into Simons, Ayton and Jerami Grant. All three are virtually untradeable. And that's going to be a problem when it's time to pay somebody like Sharp if he pans out the way everybody expects. Portland is going to have VERY little flexibility the next 3 years. And that's assuming they take back expiring contracts for Jrue. 3) Phoenix - Ayton is more talented than Nurkic. And he's available on a nightly basis. And with the kind of spacing Phoenix had lined up, Ayton was poised for the easiest year of his career. He's a MUCH better defender than Nurkic. And the "bevy of roleplayers" that Phoenix got are, at best, slight upgrades over the minimum salary vets they brought in... that everybody RAVED about two months ago... and that are suddenly all expendable. This Ayton trade for Phoenix is basically a concession that the RIGHT move last year was to work out a sign-and-trade with the Pacers, let Ayton go there and take back Myles Turner. Turner would have been an INCREDIBLE fit on this Phoenix team, both pre and post KD and Beal. A guy who can defend and rim protect, who can space, and who doesn't need the ball a ton to be happy. I also think Milwaukee is forgetting why they overpaid for Jrue in the first place. Which is that their backcourt defense was HORRID before him, and it'll now be horrid again. Dame and Pat Connaughton aren't giving you anything on that side of the floor. Middleton has been breaking down for the last couple of years. Brook Lopez is 50. 3/5ths of that starting 5 is a pretty big injury risk. And with Giannis as fed up with the mere idea of mediocrity that he seems, does anybody doubt that if Dame played 55 games, Middleton plays 62 and they fall out of the playoffs in the second round, that he's not gonna look at the front office, see that they're now thoroughly tapped out of assets with a severely aging team (think Miami Heat, last LeBron year) and demand that trade?

"Heat culture" is really getting over used since the bubble run. Sure it's there but what's nxt really? Jimmy ain't getting younger and I don't expect Bam to get way better that he can carry this team in the future days. The last championship this franchise got was with the heatles. I'm genuinely confused why they loose players for nothing year after year since the bubble team. 🤔

I am very surprised that there is so much speculation out there about this very simple situation. I do not believe that the heat refused to put their "best" offer out there, the problem is that the Heats best offer was basically next to nothing and so far away from what the Blazers got in the end, that no serious front office should even entertain any further discussion with the heat in that situation. The only way to get Dame to Miami was by trading BAM and that for obvious reasons. The heat have no attractive young players, no attractive picks as they never tank and no attractive veterans that you could flip for value, why would Portland keep talking to them, as soon as the heat take BAM off the table there was no need for further discussion. Dame and the Heat treated this situation like Dame is an expiring contract, even though he still has 4 years on his deal, which gave portland all the leverage. Portland did everything right here, they did not panic as they had time on their side and did not budge to Dames blackmailing attempt, you cant take a max deal as appreciation for your loyalty, which is the reason the supermax exists, and then act like you are beeing owed something. Now Portland got a great haul for Dame and they can most likely flip holiday alone for more value that they would have gotten from the heat in a dame trade and on top they have a great fit in ayton and some picks, well done blazers.

How tf is Miami NOT making the playoffs. They literally got better from last year. And don’t say “Oh bUt ThEy LoSt ViNcEnT aNd StRus” we literally were so deep *pause* in our rotation that some guys didn’t get minutes. Now we open up minutes for guys that deserved it. Plus we got a plus defender in Richardson who was the heats leading scorer in 1 season and some nice vets and we retained our core. Plus Miami still has ALL their FRP so they can easily make a mid-season trade. Plus Strus was HORRIBLE in the regular season. 34% from three are you fking serious?! I’m glad he’s gone. Plus he was a negative defender. The heat are 100% making the playoffs. Plus now Duncan has his groove back. Heat are a top 3 seed no QUESTIONS. Great video, I look at this whole situation differently with the new perspective you laid out in this interview. Sure the team isn't as good as last year, but if Jovic and Jiame turn out to be decent young players that can raise there value this year, that's huge. A possible best year yet from a Tyler Herro isn't impossible either seeing as how he's young. It's also a far cry from a garuntee that if Lillard came to Miami that they'd even get out of the east much less win the title as the Celtics upgraded from last year and Miami's run last year was super bonkers. Miami could have easily sold there future and current assests all for a second round exit and two extremely expensive aging stars. If everything goes right for the Heat, there a tough 2nd or even 3rd round for the rest of the east, and next year with there higher value assets can go out and make a big splash for a big name.

I’m sorry but this isn’t debatable. Literally NOONE thinks Miami made a better offer. What u see is Portland’s list of wants. That is not what miami offered, they offered herro and picks.
