Order and routine. Children thrive on routine. Such as specific dinner times, bed times and weekly planning. Children sleep better with men in the house. Plus daughters menstruate earlier without a man in the house so in effect they have a prolonged childhood by simply the father being present. Fathers are so important

So they say hey since James isn't making a whole lot but I don't want to work. So I would ask the government to assist my lazy butt. All I have to do is force James out and have control of the kids and I would have a chance to get food stamps. It was the plan of the government to separate us.

The benefits were only supposed to be temporary. They also had free training to get a job so you can come off the benefits. Section 8 was an emergency service then. It was like if you were burned out. That was temporary too. What happened is our little sisters kept finding ways to combat the system by continuing to have children and picking the wrong dude to impregnate them. The ones who were criminals or hustlers. The cycle continues.

I lived through this in the early 70s. But my father did not leave the family, he died. Before that we lived in a house - after he died we had to move into government housing. Most of the women living there had children with no man in the house and on government assistance. They were told that men were not allowed to live there or they would lose their benefits.

Exactly, imo the first problem is their selection of men they chose to get impregnated by. Then, there's the abuse of the system by making it a lifelong profession instead of a short-term solution, whereas many will strategically space the birth of a child to keep the benefits coming in. This falls directly in the hands of females, not some conspiracy plot by the Man or their man, but even if it is exactly how many times are they gonna fall for it. They're not imprisoned and in many cases could figure out arrangements for fathers to see their children the same way they'll figure how to sneak out and cheat on their man when they want to suchas meet ups at a family member's or friends house, public parks etc they just dont want them to see their fathers or perhaps not exactly sure which one actually is the father.

We've been saying this for years. In fact, if one looks at how the 'great society ' programs of the late 60's were structured, this was encouraged. Worse still, an entire 'industry ' of agencies that preyed on the poor [meaning mostly urban poor blacks, Hispanics and some whites], doing exactly this. Besides, this provided office jobs for 'activists ' who could not find work otherwise.

Early 1960's. families with a husband and employed were required to pay a small percentage of their wage to obtain a much larger amount of those colorful food stamp booklets. many women would lie and say no man was living there. the caseworker always made an appointment so you knew when to hide things. Didn't want the state to know you were living with a man.. When mom had another kid we had to hid him so they would not take the ADC or ADFC away and put you on General Assistance for a year. General Assistance meant vouchers, direct pay to vendors etc. No cash, no car, no entertainment but everything is free.

Sorry, I meant in 1950. The marriage rates for Black women was probable to that of whites. And in the 30s, the marriage rates were higher because our culture at the time placed a great stigma on black women who had babies out of wedlock. It was also a disgrace to their families for them to do so. Something happened to change the cultural norm. Yes, it was welfare policy. Get rid of your husband if you want medical care and food. I am not blaming anybody for being a bum back then, because this was prior to the march on Washington for jobs and freedom. It was very hard for a black man to get a decent job outside of shining shoes, being a butler, a chauffeur, Coleman, porter etc.. I if you look at the war on drugs and resulting mass incarceration, and how a criminal record will make you unable to get a decent job just like before the civil rights movement you will see striking similarities. I know you shouldn’t sell drugs, but the government shouldn’t dump crack in impoverished Single-family neighborhoods to pay for wars against communism in Central America (setting up the culture of drug dealing on a massive scale in these impoverished neighborhoods. If there are no good men to Guy, these kids, there will be plenty of bad man who will set them up and business. Thanks a lot more complex than what we make them out to be sometimes but you are right nobody should lay down and have a baby with a bum But there’s enough blame to go around for everybody, including the government and the successful Black people who only want to ridicule and look down their noses, not provide any real help. Read about the crack epidemic. Also read about alcohol, prohibition, and all the violence that happen with alcohol was illegal and white people were poor. this is not all genetics a lot of his pathologies or a lot more complex. That you may think and no you still shouldn’t have a baby with a bum.

This is a bunch of garbage. If the “government” dropped drugs and guns off at my front door, I don’t have to distribute them. It is a CHOICE to sell and distribute drugs and guns to your community. If you break the law, you will be held accountable. Plain and simple. Black men have been trying to paint this narrative and it’s stupid. The system didn’t make y’all sell crack- a highly addictive substance to pregnant women in your community. Black men destroyed the community through drugs, guns, promotion of violence, abandonment of families, and lack of provision, among other things. Black children were impoverished because their fathers either abandoned their mother OR he was there and would not work.

Have you ever had a sick child? One thing that nobody is mentioning is that medical insurance is attached to your job in this country. If you attended the march on Washington for jobs and freedom ( the whole name for the original March.) what is simply watched Good Times, you would understand that it was very difficult for Black men to get a decent job back in those days you couldn’t get medical insurance from a shoeshine j elevator, operator, butler, or a maid. A lot of women who stayed with their man worked as maids to try to make ends meet and in most cases, they were working for middle-class white women. If, if you are not old enough, you will not understand that most successful Black people over the age of 60 mothers worked as maids in middle-class white women’s houses. At one time or another to make ends meet and it was highly competitive. If you read about the slave markets in New York in the 60s, where black women would go and wait for white women to pick them up for maid service and laundry. Rosa Parks worked as a Maid and was almost raped. She also worked as a seamstress. And was a field secretary in the NAACP, so she was very intelligent. My father raised seven children he had a very hard time keeping a job and it wasn’t because he was lazy. He later had a painting business I agree that you shouldn’t be having babies with bums the question is, how do you turn the culture around because this has been ingrained in our culture starting with a great society programs. In 1950 and you can Google this merge rates for black women was comparable to that a white women, and it was even greater than white women in the 30s. What did you think happened to change that? if you’re not old enough, you don’t realize we don’t didn’t have the same job opportunities in the 60s we have now the ones that those meds and fought for and if you get a criminal record, you don’t have them again. So dumping drugs in our impoverished neighborhoods didn’t help either. The problem is in the culture created by the crack epidemic (please do some research on the crack, epidemic) and the social welfare policies. I was lucky I come from a two-part family and had some good guidance from the men in my family and stayed out of trouble was able to get a good job and a business but I lived through much of what you were talking about so it’s quite easy for me to look down my nose at other people who weren’t as fortunate. But we definitely need to get our culture together

Michon, love your takes usually, but this one was way off base. Let me school ya. Welfare was created in late 1930's by PRESIDENT Franklin Delano Roosevelt for soldier's coming back from from World War 2 who had lost limbs, were shell-shocked or died. Farmers were given welfare (which federal government redefined as "subsidies") in the millions. Black soldier's, for the most part, did not receive these benefits due to institutional discrimination. So they survived on what they could. So please understand, the government looked out for whites through welfare, food stamps, v.a. 1st time home ownership (you could put a dollar down to buy a house), free college, retraining for jobs. This all happened from late 1930s to 1965. That's when Blacks became citizens. The requirements then changed. Where white families were able to stay together for whites after WW2 & Korean Wars and receive government benefits Black families were purposely torn asunder because whites hated that Blacks had became citizens. Welfare is a part of COINTELPRO which orchestrated, with federal/state/local governments to fracture Black community solely. Whites are not experiencing this. Remember Michon, we had just become citizens of a country we had been in for over 300 years that had laws making it a crime to learn to read, write or think. At the same time there was an exodus called the "2nd Great Migration" that happened during 60s where Blacks came north in search of assembly jobs. Some got them while others did not & lived in dilapidated housing left by Italians, Irish & Jewish who lived there previously. It is on Black people because we were dumb enough to think they would be welcomed in a country they brought them here, by force, enslaved.

[again, they're pathetic] Since l used to received SS back in my day, l know first-hand about this matter. [black men need to stop lying]

And Black women need to stop getting pregnant by Pookie and Ray Ray...they will never own up to their responsibilities. Choose wisely and marry before you carry.

I’m tired you all complaining yall women take no accountability y’all don’t use the iud and birth control as much as women in other communities do and y’all expect a positive result fact of the matter is black women ar e the least responsible at using birth control compared to women in toher communities

Let me guess you are one of those women that are in love with pookie and ray ray and thought you could change him into what you wanted. Didn't work out and now you are mad at all black men. So hard to look in the mirror and see that it was your own poor choices that put you where you are.

@@djm1613 Since l had one child and received SS in the late 70's, my situation was totally different from other women. IUD was very hurtful to my body and the pill worked out for me. lt's not all women that played the system, so they won't have to work. l appreciated the assistance and did good with my life.
