It’s a shame, the Passat was a nice midsized sedan but this generation dropped the ball entirely, no digital cockpit, small screen, old technology. Looks nice from the outside though. The Jetta is now growing since it’s stopped being sold in Europe and is filling in the Passats shoes.

It was disappointing that they didn’t updated to the MQB Platform. Volkswagen dropped the Passat Sedan in Europe, only the Wagon lives on with a new Generation coming in 2023.

Honestly seeing this gen Passat makes it more attractive. All the other midsize sedans are filled with gimmicky designs and technocrap that justs costs more. This includes the awful Camry interior. Love the simple and practical Passat.

IMHO VWUSA screwed up the Passat's marketing. For one, they should've stuck with the Euro spec and adopted it for the USDM, instead of having its own USDM variant. Then, with that in lind, they could've offered the Passat Variant or even the Alltrack Variant to compete in (and take a share out of) the SUV/CUV market......
@benjaminsmith22872 жыл бұрын
I think it deserves to stay. It's a European version of the Accord, Camry or Sonata, K5/Optima with a semi-Audi feel to it. I do agree the styling is vanilla but it is well built and drives nicely. It does seem more expensive to maintain than the Japanese or Korean cars. I think the US version is just bland compared to the Euro version. I think it looks way nicer inside than does the ID4 which looks cheap by comparison.

Yes!!! Cancel this thing. I have a 2012 Passat with only 77,000 miles and I just had to replace the engine valve cover, pressure sensor and spark plugs ($2,000 repair !!!). Plus the yearly maintenance costs are too high considering VW doesn't make quality sedans anymore. Maybe if they reduce the lineup they can focus on doing just a few things decently. As for me I am moving over to Toyota

With the Passat, Sonata, and Kia K5 all getting axed, the Malibu production wrapping up, and the Fusion, Regal, and 200 gone, it's pretty much Accord and Camry that rule this segment, the Altima doing well but counting on fleet sales, and the Subaru Legacy holding onto its niche fan base. Japan won the sedan war.

Thanks for the review! I generally like VW cars but this one is a pass for me. For a mid size car the driving experience is just too poor. Braking is quite mellow and loose. Steering is too unresponsive and long for turns, but super sharp going in straight line. This could've been a great car but VW just haven't refined it properly

Dieselgate is such a joke. Every automaker cheated emissions, it was systemic. Also these diesels failed Euro 6 but they are still way cleaner than cars from the 2000s and early 2010s. VW was a literal diesel freak back then with everything from I3, I4, I5, V6, V8, V10 and even V12 diesels, I love that era so much.
