riding new yamaha feels like cheating i am a “local pro” and i was a ktm guy for my whole life in 2023 i’ve bought a new ktm and honestly, it felt a lot worse than old chassis. heavy, rigit, difficult to turn, but stable. also i didn’t like the engine at all. coming from 250s i am used to rev the engine high while ktm 450 engines are mellow and are built to ride a gear taller so, i took a ride on a 23 yz450 and was sooo impressed handling was so sharp, engine revved up freely, suspension was excellent even comparing to kyb pro kit on my ktm. i feel like just moving around the track on a yz takes less effort than any other bike. it turns better than a 250, and one of the biggest advantages is its flexibility. you can either comfortably fly around the track on a higher gear or blast the corners on a gear lower, this bike works great for every riding style. i feel like the only disadvantage is that comparing to ktm yz is a bit more unstable, thats it

I just did a comparison with my 22 Honda 250 compared to a 25 and it felt like a totally different bike. I was able to switch between the two bikes back to back and the new Honda frame is very compliant and the rear wheel feels so much more connected to the ground. I was very hesitant to believe the “new” frame would feel much different but I was really impressed. Picking up a 25 next week!

the works edition gets you the 110 rear wheel set-up on top of everything else, so i'm sold on that plan.

Bro I'm a ktm owner, the factory editon. Love my bike, but until they fix the angle issue with engine causing an bind up in the rear. Its a pass for me. No matter how loose you have the chain will still cause a binding issue with the rear suspension. Lift the rear wheel while bikes on lift, ride JBI has awesome video on this explanating why the bikes dont feel right!

Sorry for my ignorance Jeff but I just don’t understand why you need a new bike. If you like the 23 gas gas wouldn’t it be cheaper to just rebuild the motor and get all new bearings and grease it. Maybe rebuild the suspension and wheels as well. Is it that you just ride so hard and so much that the frame gets weaker or you just wanting a new comfortable base to start the season with. Please respond bc I would really like to know.

This may sound weird but one issue I have is which gear to be in for corners. Can you do a video talking about gearing for a 450 and a talk through in a video maybe? Basically I’m in 3rd over jumps, 2nd in between. And shift to first right before corners. I have no idea if that is correct and have saw no videos talking about it I haven’t been able to do SX tracks because I shift to first on corners and it’s such a tight corner that the bike slows down and dies. If I pull in the clutch I slow too much and fall. I assume I’d need a smaller or a much lower geared MX bike to do those.

The reason people complained about the stiffness was because the chain slack was too tight and binding up. I think it requires 78mm minimum iirc to not bind. Ktm put out a bulletin on it but most people ignored it or say, "my mechanic this or my manual says this" they are incorrect. You must use the updated chain slack spec to not bind. Easy way to checl is to disconnect the linkage and run the swing arm through it's travel and look to see if it binds.

Hey Jeff I need some advice bro. Do you think it’s too late to take motocross serious and become pro at the age of 19? I been riding since I was like 6, and then stopped at 13 after breaking my leg. I’m starting to get back into it, I’ve been riding here and there, I still have some skill and speed. I just wish I kept riding ..
@yukonjon5964Ай бұрын
dude, i didn't start racing till i was 25. and feel looking back that a man can handle intense speeds just fine till about 35. you got tons of time to go for it! i suggest signing up as a Moto Academy member, going on their site and watching a bunch of AJ Catanzaro's older vids on riding style. especially the ones with Jett teaching hand/grip position (his palm does not touch the bar!). it's life changing stuff and can make ya way better faster. Ryno teaches similar stuff but only takes ya so far.
@iCookSlipАй бұрын
@@yukonjon5964 this just gave me some hope. Appreciate your comment tons bro. Thanks❤️ I will look into those video for some help on riding.
@yukonjon5964Ай бұрын
@@iCookSlip cool! yep this whole style of keeping your back straight, rear way back and heels lower than the pegs adds so much stability and traction and reduces arm pump. the part about gripping the bars like your holding a screwdriver only works well with the above style because there is never that much loading on the arms. it's how Jett rides and much of the world is now watching that style and trying to learn it. Stephan Everts taught it to the Lawrence brothers, but guys like Ryno and AJ have been teaching it too. starting out with correct technique creates better habits and is safer in the long run. i really like AJ's approach to only riding at only 80% to stay safe and not letting those around you pressure you to ride over your head. he says every time you ride we should be training ourselves one key aspect of being better. not letting our desire to win get us into trouble, but focus on being precise and consistent. once we gain skill we will naturally just be faster without trying to be fast. these philosophy's are good for the sport and will help it grow.

Most of the new things for the '25 models can be done to the older bikes (like the engine mounts), and vice versa. Having gone from 22/23/24 to 25 with my Huskies (been on every model/gen since 2016, and KTMs before), I can tell the differences (although they are minor for me at my riding level). I'm preferring the 25 so far (also, I'm on 350s, not 450s 😋).
