In this Star Citizen gameplay video, we take a look at the Drake Corsair after its big nerf. The Corsair lost its two front size 5 weapons, but has it been completely ruined, or can it still handle max-level bounties? I wanted to find out, so I took on a max-level ERT bounty to see if the ship is still decent.

My gripe with Corsair nerf is more how they nerfed it. They could have reduced the four size 5 to size 4 rather than just making two guns perpetually unusable. Having to choose between having two unused forward facing guns or two 360 degree coverage guns is the most inefficient ridiculous thing I’ve seen in this game’s history of nerfs.

I’m okay with it, gives the copilot something to do. But this makes the Connie a question for the same. My co pilot is able to gimbal shots at ground targets which was pretty cool while I focused on flying. I’d rather us have the ability to share the weapons or choose not to however. Everyone deserves some gameplay, they need to solve that problem.

@@fillianplays It could be that someone at CIG said "I have an idea". Now they are giving it a test to see what kinda feedback they get for it. I just noticed No Job Loss On Recovery vid in my feed to watch giving CIG props. Maybe the future of the game is great but right now were all just trying to play vs test. Which I can't blame anyone for just wanting to play the game, it's pretty much my dream game for space.

I just hate to see it go the same way as the artificial ballistic gun nerf they did around 2019 where we went from having a a reasonable amount of ammo for 1-2 fights to not even enough for 1 single dogfight which straight up killed the use of ballistics for years. It took them about 5 years before they basically went back to what we had pre 2019 this year and we still don’t have physicalized armor values in game. It wasn’t really a secret that it was wildly unpopular either so I guess after 12 years I’m just tired of them making these really odd decisions.

The problem with that isn't that people cant kill it, its you dont even get time to kill it because you die so damn fast to it, and armor wouldn't change much, people will equid it with ballistic guns and shred your ship.

I've switched from Corsair to Constellation Taurus. More damage, more hp, more cargo space and tractor beam.

@@Nesha96Alt which would be ok if it wasn't so easy for one or two solo ships vs full crews on big ships. I'm hoping that fully crewed ships will be significantly buffed and very difficult to take down once engineering is in with crew repairing components. Later on with the damage refactor big ships might remain operable and repairable after heavy damage, rather than exploding from a light breeze.

In the future I hope AI blades will bring in the option to allow the use of the bottom weapons again, but knowing CIG there will be some reason why they won't allow it.

Once Attritions (4340dps in that setup) work again you will melt those ships waaay quicker. The Galdereen & Rhino (2182dps) are just "bad" in PvE as the enemies are not moving much anyways. Both the Corsair and the Connie was/is overgunned anyways and probably only the Andromeda will keep that loadout.

Make the bottom forward guns a rotating turret of which it already looks like it's mounted on a rotating gimbal already so a little rework would only be needed and the change won't be so bad

i feel like the better balance pass that would not have been so intrusive on the player experience would have been to size down the lower the nose guns to S4. six S4 guns have roughly the same firepower as four S5 guns meaning a solocrew Corsair and solocrew Constellation would have the same firepower (not counting the Constellation's enormous missile stores). Even counting additional crew the Andromeda would have the upper hand since its turrets have bigger guns and the fourth crewmember has a snub fighter. The Corsair nerf was gross considering they didn't change the Constellation as well. Edit: alternatively, lower the wing guns and the lower nose guns to S3 and leave the upper nose guns S5. it would still end up with the same damage output as a Constellation (at least until Armor and damage mitigation become implemented fully)

I've just decided to take the bottom two guns off for more capacitor capacity The Corsair still has enough character and useful features for me to use it I love the three positions of the elevator, the rear cargo ramp with the flood lights, and the side airlock with the Armory and suit lockers. The linear interior layout is nice for me also. The Corsair has a special presence with the exterior looks and the way the wings fold for landing, that is unlike any other ship. The lights that come on when you lower the landing gear to shine on the ground are really helpful also

Before I say my peace, I will say for the (IN GAME) price point I thought the Corsair was far too over powered from the get-go it should have never ever had 6 pilot controlled guns ever. That being said. In its hay day, I owned both the Andromeda and Corsair and decided to hire a whole crap load of players to fully crew both.. and YES I know the corsair doesnt come with a snub ship, however could fit a Misc Razor in the back easy, so we used the Misc Razor as the corsairs snub ship to make the fight fair. The battle went on for 45 minutes, the P52 Merlin was the first to die, then the Razor, and then finally after 45 minutes the Andromeda just couldn't handle it anymore and exploded. The Corsair won. Mind you, this is a ship that cost 50% of the price tag of the Andromeda, WITH the help of a Misc Razor to make the fight "fair" I honestly feel, C.I.G. screwed up, and should have made the Corsair like this from the start and then potentially up'd the DPS as the game evolved. But no, at half the cost should not be able to even compete with an Andromeda, that ship is and always has been meant to be the beast of multi-crew gun ships, it shouldn't lose to a ship half its price point.

Nope you're completely fine in fact it's the connies existence which is why the Corsair is getting nerfed. They tried so hard to make the connie the meta pick by giving it x3 the HP and all S5 guns but ppl still picked the Corsair cus it has a nicer interior so Chris took half the DPS away so picking it over the connie is a unbelievably dumb choice

With the starlancer max stats and weapons out now, its for sure constellations are going to get re-balanced next. Im hoping an adjustment with the corsair's nerfs like giving back the 2 guns to the pilot (and have the option of giving it to the co-pilot) OR Changing the 2 size 4's on the small wings to Size 5's, making it a bit on par with the Taurus IF it is not going to get downsized 🤷‍♂️

So the copilot used to control the remote turret on the back top of the ship. Now he controls that and also 2 size 5 front guns. Which means he only can control one or the other at one time. What bs nerf. Which makes the remote turret very uselss. Almost as useless as the 2 side manned turrets with size 2 repeaters, nobody ever uses on this ship. Imagine putting 2 actual people in these manned turrets. It's a really bad joke.

If the side turrets could converge better with the nose guns, it would make a lot more sense. As is, the side guns are only good to try to limit a targets shield recharge as it flashes by. No one wants to play in those turrets.

I'm sure it will get some nerf, but the connie was always kinda nerfed. It had 2 5s and 2 gimballed 4s for pilot. Now we can use 4 size 5s, but it is low on ammo unless you use ballistics. And our turrets are only 3s. Fully crewed the ships are more closely matched. So I won't be surprised if they take our connie "buff" away, but it's been that way since day 1, so we can handle it.

Yea, I feel a bit betrayed as well with the ship. Instead of getting mad though I’m just not buy any more ships from CIG until the game releases (1.0). I think there are more nerfs and changes to come and I don’t want to let them sour the project for me to the point I put it down for good. No more ships 😊.

Honestly they screwed up just giving the pilot all the weapons from the get-go if you look at the actual ship design since it had been released it always looked like the bottom set was supposed to be its own turret, why drop the rear seat down for just the remote turret, and that the pilot only had the two Wing guns and the two top guns it was like a pocket gunship called an ezplorer when we all knew it was a raider.

I wont blame CIG for destroying the corsair pilot dps, but it make no sense to leave the Constellation line up with the same exact "problem". Now i cant face a Constellation in pvp with a corsair, the lost of 2 guns, slow movement and buggy shield ( hull get hit without the shield being down sometimes ) is just a straight up downgrade against a Taurus with his 140k hull more speed and 4s5guns. Hard to give ERT any credit with thoses poor AI, a cutty black is enought for it.

If they nerfed the Corsair to convince people to buy the Starlancer instead? - the Starlancer has less pilot controlled firepower than the nerfed Corsair does. The Starlancer is bigger, will be slower, more expensive to operate, fuel / repair / rearm and need a larger crew than the Corsair. The Corsair will eat the Starlancer for lunch

It's not useless now. It'll still be good for the same tier of combat It's always been good for.. But expecting these early game ships to be any real use, and the meta that will be coming to the game in the future is crazy...😅 You'll still be able to use it up to a certain tier of bounty missions. It'll still be useful and some of the new content coming out. Missions contested zones if you need something small and compact, that's able to get in, get out quick with good damage and defense.

Yeah, me and a couple of my buddies in a salvage crew, we run ERTs in my reclaimer. We get cargo from the kills and cargo from the salvage. I think the most we've ever made doing this was about fourteen million and 4hr ish, We normally do the four ways split... But every now and then we do a 14 all type run where we specifically farmed that day for that one person to try to help them buy a ship or upgrades they need.

Remove the copilot guns or replace with ballistics and also remove the remote turret. Doing this you actually have more sustained DPS than before. Only thing being lost here is the alpha damage. It sucks but i wouldn't say its that much worse. They just need to bring the Connies in line with it.

The issue with the game right now is every ship is compared to eachother, and the connies are just so massively powerful that they make everything that isnt 100% combat focused seem weak, as the connies outgun most ships while having a variety of other uses. Pull up anyone asking for ship reccomendations and I guarantee someone would reccomend the connie as it just is better. They need a full rebalance of the connies when they get the gold pass, make each variant stand out a bit more Perhaps the Andromeda gets less cargo space for another turret slot and some component slots for extra shielding and powerplants, swap the pilot and turret guns so it can act as it was designed for, a multicrew gunship, keep the same dps, just dont let it be a 1 size fits all ship for solo players The aquila maybe could replace some of its hardpoints for drones of varying types, keeping it in a useful state without it just being another gunship The Taurus is the most unique one of the lot, perhaps just tweaks to its gun loadouts to make it more in line with a self defense cargo ship, maybe a way to allow it to QT faster to escape combat encounters before they drag out, as it is a cargo ship first and formost before any sort of combat centric vessel

Not only is it a terrible nerf, but it's borderline criminal fraud for those who actually paid cash for the Corsair and Redeemer, which both had an itemised set of features, hardpoints, and abilities, only to have it baited and switched out from under them in order for CIG to promote the Starlancer Tac.

It's not borderline criminal fraud you. Every stat in the game is subject to change, to compensate for that CIG gives you the ability to melt your ships for store credit and just buy something else that current fits your needs better. Just enjoy the ability to test out other ships when the ones you bought get hit by silly developer decisions. Just don't spend MORE money for something bigger, but go smaller instead.

It's not an explorer, that was a marketing joke. It's made to explore other ships cargo holds. Has no dedicated scanners or anything related to exploring. If you call this an explorer then any ship that can carry some cargo is also an explorer.

Taurus, a cargo ship, has 4x size 5 and more cargo space as well as a tractor beam and an additional gun turret. There's no reason to use the Corsair over the Taurus.

@@Boomshalak Dont forget that one turret on that taurus has size 3's (buffed from size 2 at the same time they nerfed the corsair) and is better placed than any turret on the corsair. Even the Aquilla (the actual explorer, with actual dedicated sensors and stuff - the thing the corsair lacks as an "explorer") is better armed, with more size 5's, better turret, more cargo, A SNUB fighter, and iirc over 20 missiles. If they nerfed the connie to have size 4's instead of 5's I doubt people would be as up in arms, or maybe connie owners would be just as pissed as corsair owners

Its simple people are using multicrew ships like single seat fighters when thats NEVER what they were supposed to be. Just because you fooled yourself into thinking this was a single seater fighter with the current builds and now the devs are moving the game away from placeholder mechanics to the actual intended mechanics, ie: multicrew, engineering etc you cant cry because you never informed yourself about what the process of development is supposed to be from day 1.

They didnt nerf it... It was never supposed to be as powerful in the first place. They fixed the corsair is what happened.

and the connie taurus is meant to be a freighter but has 4 size 5's :P The Corsair also seems to be missing exploration features, like medical facilities, and a scanning hard point. The Connie exploration variant also has 4 size 5 guns and tons of missiles and a snug fighter, but sacrifices its top turret for a scanning array. Corsair is fake advertised as an exploration ship, because drake doesn't want to advertise it as a pirate ship :P. I would have upped the corsair turret sizes, adjusted the side turrets to be able to shoot forward better and switched the pilot controlled guns to 4 size 4's, + 2 size 4's on the wings. But I would also do the same tihng to the connie, size 4 size 4's pilot controlled, turrets up to double size 4's. giving it less firepower then the corsair but its tankier and has more missiles, both ships would benefit from having a friend or two.

Pledged for the Corsair, cause I have always been a big fan of DRAKE ships, and liked its design, although it was a flying brick, but had a descend cargo space and some extra weapons to compensate! Now CIG nerfed it into oblivion, so it is totally crap. Been collecting dust in my hangar now! Once again Thank you CIG for Fucking up a ship. Not the ship i pledged for! People should have the opportunity to get their RL cash back, as it is not the ship the sold me when released. Folks!!!! never buy any concepts or newly released ships, as CIG will just nerf it, when another ship in the same category comes out, forcing people to either meld and use extra new money to buy a ship, collecting dust in hangar, or melding and turning it into credits in the store! CIG GREED!!!!

I agree the nerf was over done and done very badly, I disagree it was to sell the starlancer, these ships are not in competition with each other. Corsair I think is being tested as ways to encourage multicrew, and i think they picked the corsair as a test bed because of its popularity. Not a good move imo. If it was to bring solo player power lvls down, then they need to do it do the Connies as well. Also making the remote turret useless was really dumb, I guess they could have made the remote turret pilot controlled, giving the pilot 2 size 3's 2 size 4's and 2 size 5's, and making the bottom size 5's a manned turret with a decent amount of coverage. Upsize the side turrets with size 4's and you have a real deadly 4 player pirate ship. and still a powerful solo daily driver. The star lancer is the size of a 600i, has less pilot firepower then the nerfed corsair and way less then the connie, less missiles then the connie. If it flies anything like the 600i its going to be sluggish and hard to get on target, and really not very solo friendly, I would say the max is more competition for a Drake Cata more then it is for the Corsair. Even the Starlancer Tac hes less solo firepower then the nerfed corsair and connie, while also being much larger. and it looks like its big turrets cant face forward, so its not even a replacement for the redeemer. Anyway I hope they do something to fix the corsair if nothing else, the fact the copilot has to choose instead of having control over both turrets is really dumb.

I don’t think it’s as nerf as people say I mean you can have the best ship and weapons but if you can’t out fly someone in a dog fight and still get killed that’s a skill issue.😂 people need to stop crying about it as long as you can out fly someone and hit your shots the other player is going down 😂

I don't know what's worse: the accent or the pilot's skills. But maybe it's just the insubstantial crying? Who knows, who knows.
