Edit: after the changes to QT drives in 3.24.3 the Atlas isn’t really necessary since for now all S1 drives have nearly identical stats - save the cash!
@Velthus3 ай бұрын
I would honestly go for Stealth components on this one - now that stealth is pretty functional, especially stealth Quantum Drives since it lowers your signature significantly while in nav mode as well (50k EM to 20kish just swapping the drive alone). Stealth power plants will help here as well tremendously. Helps shrug off some would-be pirates looking for an easy score. It's all still enough power to keep everything running without issue. Coolers are also a good option here and will reduce IR by a fair amount. As an aside, Quantum Drives still have stats that can be important and are not identical. Cooldown timers are still lower with better components, as well as signature values, even for S1 drives. Speeds and fuel usage are the same across the board though but there's still things that will give you just a bit more of an edge. Personal recommendation: 2x Snowblind Coolers, 2x Slipstream Power Plants, Spectre Quantum Drive, 3x Mirage Shields (or Jaghte competition, for higher shield values at the cost of slightly higher EM) will drop your signatures to roughly 2.7k IR and 5800ish EM (4.5k with life support and weapons turned off). Leaving the highest detection range of the Vulture at 12k from cross-section alone if it is viewed from the top. All other stats are sub-12k signature. While Mirage shields will offer less shielding, the whole point is to not get caught in the first place. You're not going to dogfight in this thing, so if you're caught your #1 priority is to bug out and be aware of your radar at all times since you'll be more likely to see them before they can target you. Competition grade shields offsets this (by having the highest shield value at the cost of low component health value) and will add slightly higher EM signature.

Great guide. But there's 1 very crucial thing you or anyone else fail to mention: The salvage arms on this ship are extremely fragile. They will get destroyed even if you accidently bump them on one of the panels! Once you repair the destroyed arm, you will almost permanently lose the ability to replace the Baler salvage head, and thus unable to install scraper module even after newly claiming the ship. First time tried salvaging today and found this the hard way :(

Honestly, for the QT drive... all S1 drives have the same fuel economy and speed now. Until further notice, of course. The biggest differences between them are power use/cooling requirements, health of the component, and probably most important for a "civilian" - cooldown time. What might be an interesting upgrade path would be to make a stealth Vulture (like we used to have with the Prospector). Stock, the Vulture has 17k IR, 39k EM and 3.3k/6k/12.5k CS ratings (front/side/top). With all Stealth-A components, that drops down to a measly 2.76k IR and 4.8k EM (with no power to weapons and just one pip in engines, and full power to everything else). If you _remove_ one power plant, with the same power settings, you can get it down to ~2k IR and 3.7k EM. Granted, if someone's looking down at you, you'll still be seen from 12km away, but even that's a lot better than the 39km stock detection radius (I use an S3 radar for this, 100% detection range).

If you really want to be efficient you can just load the vulture up, take it to the nearest legrange point (which is going to be really close) and offload all your RMC into the freight elevator and send it down to store it. Then head back out for another run. At the end of the day or several days you can spawn in a cargo ship to the legrange and haul all the RMC from all the runs in one trip. This seems minor but if you actually use a stop watch like I do, it takes almost as long to do a trip to a planet and get to the TDD and get back and then get back the legrange point as another run in the vulture. So this basically doubles your output. Just wait until you have 100-200 depending on your ship and sell it all at once as one trip. Of course there is increased risk of piracy since you might have 200 scu of RCM. But I’d rather take my chances in one trip of a starlancer max to defend my 200 RMC than 10 trips of a vulture with 25 RMC.

Instead of leap frogging with the QT, I would suggest pointing your nose towards the QT marker, enter decoupled mode, and increase speed to 500+, whatever speed you are comfortable with. When you reach the speed, let go of the throttle. You will no longer spend hydrogen fuel, but continue to glide at the set speed. You can then turn all around in all angles while scanning. Keep doing that until you get a 2000x marker. Enter coupled mode and move to the salvage area. IMO much easier approach.

Something to remember with the S1 Quantum Drive, specifically on the Vulture, is that your max range is 50 GM, no matter which S1 QD you choose in 3.24.X. This means you won't be able to make any long haul jumps, like from ArcCorp to Microtech w/o refueling along the way. If you jump to the Stanton star and jump 20-21 GM to the Halo, depending on where you started from, you may not have enough Quantum Fuel to get back to your staring point. One good thing about Crusader is that the Halo passes between the Gas Giant and CRU-L2. If you start from Orson, and head toward CRU-L2, the Halo will be close by.

@@lordanubis5965 so I actually tested this by storing up a full Taurus’ worth at ARC-L1, then loading it and shifting it to A18. Unfortunately auto unloading didn’t work - if it had then it’d be about the same overall with the loading time for the crates at the Lagrange station, but as it was it was quite a bit slower due to the unloading time. One thing I would love to see is the ability to “repack” cargo when it’s down in your warehouse - I.e. I should be able to take 32x 1SCU crates and make them into 1x 32SCU crate. Never done any salvaging. Here is one tip: Crusader and Hurston have bounties in asteroid fields. Take one of those and QT there. Then look for panels and debris. The hostile targets should be 25-35km away and typically in sleep mode. They shouldn't ever bother you. Jump back to station and offload into elevator when done. As long as you didnt logout, the QT marker for the bounty should be up. Rinse and repeat. As for profitability, I am not so impressed. Even with a Hull A, which can be rented for 30k per day, you can make up to 120k per run. Assuming you are on a shard with a working elevator and the landing zone ATC actually works and gives you a hangar, one run should take 10 or so minutes. That's up to 720k per hour. With a Freelancer MAX, that's around 1.2 mil/hour.

@loudguns was this on the latest patch? I can't get the tdd terminals to find the RMC! How did you do this? I followed this exactly in the 3.24.2 patch and it didn't work :(

I just bought a Vulture. And I've been out here for 30 minutes in the halo asteroid ring, and I've only found one cluster of 3 tiny panels. Shy of 3 SCU. I do not recommend doing solo salvaging, it's simply not worth it.

Where did you get that armor?
@LoudGuns2 ай бұрын
It's Aril Quiksilver - I believe you can get lucky and find it in loot boxes, but getting a full set together would be a lot of RNG (I paid $15 for it on the pledge store). Edit: there are two other versions - Hazard (Yellow) can be bought from any Cargo Deck at the LEO's or Jumpgate stations and a Blue version can be bought from one of the shops at Orison.

I have not seen any salvage contracts on my mobi. Am I missing something?

@@Scott-ze5yr I think there’s a bug, my main account has the same issue - logged in on an alt and had the legal contracts no issue

i made 419auec in one trip doing this, same locations and everything, it took me three hours but ill chalk that up to being a first timer, still, 140k an hour is pretty good.

Military modules make you visible far beyond what you can detect. Better to go stealth. You aren't there to fight or be seen.

honestly i would not do the QT hop, its very easy for a new player to hop out of the halo with the QT so you really should maybe drive around

I tend to try and include the more advanced tips and tricks in these guides. I do a beginners guide for folks learning the ropes, these are meant to be about “getting gud” 😂
