The show's opening theme song is a thousand times more memorable than the show itself.

🎵Welcome back🎵 I used to watch the reruns when I was a little kid and the theme song STILL gets stuck in my head and I haven't seen that show in 35 years! :) haha Thanks for the video

The show was popular with us kids in NYC….it was urban teens who were tougher than Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, and other shows.

Never understood the popularity of this show and all the merchandise. I’m surprised they never did a cartoon.

I saw reruns of this as a kid. I didn't remember what it was about. I did have a puzzle as a kid, I'm pretty sure it came with others from the thrift store. I do remember the song, though. I think Dennys or maybe IHOP used it on a commercial a few years back.

Hi Junkman! I don't have any Welcome Back, Kotter merch, but I do have the TV theme of the show, Welcome Back by John Sebastian on audio CD. It was a classic.

the show inspired a bunch of merch. i had cards and figures. The Freddie Wsshington figure was cool..the younger kids looked up to the Sweathogs and we knew their lines and would say them in school. when Travolta left i didn't watch the show .

I watched this as a kid in the 70s, but I never really liked it. Years later I found a Mr. Kotter Halloween costume in a thrift store; the Ben Cooper kind with a mask and just a plastic smock featuring a picture of the character on the front. I went as "Harry Kotter" that year.

This was before my time. Thus, I don't understand the appeal this array of merch suggests was there. I'll be walking my own path, with my Tina Yothers backpack, Benson pencil case, and St Elsewhere Trapper Keeper.

@michaelrussom6463 I had a reply deleted today on this channel too. Mine was a little harsh though (at least to the sensitive people programming what's acceptable) Most people aren't big Yothers fans. She had an album, ya know. The cover is magnificently 80's.

I wonder how many fans of this old show were happy to 'Get Carter' LOL! I, for once when it comes to old media, haven't seen this show in my life and I'm only watching this as it just come up in my inbox. However that said though the concept for this program does seem vaguely familiar. It might just be possible that I may have seen perhaps one or two episodes of the live action series, or failing that one or two episodes of the cartoon series and that the memory had been lodged deep down in my subconscious, as I'm sure that is the same reason why Stan Lee would reuse ideas from old WW2 comes that he wrote in the 1940s, in the likes of his better known 1960s works. Anyway I hope that at least someone out there gets my little joke... I really need to watch 'Get Carter' someday. Hopefully it won't be a child porn video...

I grew up on too much Nick at Nite and love the show, I bought the guys and classroom playset for a decent price several years ago. Yeah, the merchandise was ridiculous. Before social media and memes, TV character catchphrases I imagine are what people yelled at each other!

I loved that show as a kid but it's pretty corny sometimes when I watch it now. It was actually considered to be one of the more realistic shows of the 70's.
