Whatever happened at home, was and stayed between them. Clearly, no one really knew what was going on. They would have found financial issues, cheating etc.. No policy or Life insurance really came into it. I think they fought in the car - aggressively, her for her life. They ended up in the ditch from the struggle, she got out of the car and ran into the tall grass - he followed but slammed his car door (she left hers open). He finished the job and beat her badly when he caught up. The car drove by - saw the opened passenger door but no one was around. When he came back to the car, he came to his "senses" and scrambled to think of how to cover it - saw the pipe in the trunk - is a windshield repair guy, thought he'd cover it up that way because that comes most natural- and he did a terrible job because he was scrambling.

Clearly you guys did not listen to Todd Kendhammer's testimony because if you did you would have learned that Todd & Barb took long walks together every night and frequently got ice cream together. Couples that go out to ice cream do not murder one another! Ice cream makes you happy - not murderous! Haha! Jk. Guy is guilty as hell. You guys did an awesome job covering this case and trial and showed incredible restraint not mentioning that Todd Kendhammer was the dumbest defendant. The Judge said at the sentancing that Todd seemed obsessed with appearances and what others thought of him. He referenced a letter that they did fight but always in private. It makes sense that he would lie and try to stage an accident to cover up the murder of his wife- it was his custom to hide & cover up anything that made him look imperfect or bad. The family actually attacked the prosecutor! The whole family (save for the cousin who gave that beautiful speech at the sentancing- addressing "Barbara's murderer") seems to live in denial.

Great podcast! I really enjoy our style of presentation of each case. I just happened to watch this trial. I think Todd was a controlling personality and always had to be right. The last real estate transaction was sketchy with old unpaid bills. Barbara handled the bill paying and I think that while they didn't flip these homes to make a lot of money, I think this last house was a disaster and she called him on it. He lost control after being called out and killed her somewhere along the route they took that morning. He staged the scene and sought to cover up from that point.

A friend of mine ( very first there) found 2 couch cushions in the fridge 😳 Btw... it wasn’t an open design ... couch was in another room.... and the cushions had to make an approx 90 degree turn after going through the living/ kitchen door and the fridge door was closed.... before and after the explosion 💥 So glass not being in the door pocket though slim is possible.... She was brought alive to the hospital, though. So he beat her up badly first. I feel like he did it the night before. Probably because she didn’t respond with as much feeling to a text he sent. He had all night to think of a way he could explain her injuries, and this was the best he could come up with. He was banking on the it being such an obvious accident, he didn’t think the police would even bother following up with the broken windshield guy. What he should have done was put her in the seat unseatbelted, then purposely crashed their car into something. It’s the only way he could have really explained her injuries. Especially if he got badly injured too.
@awright1190212 жыл бұрын
I believe he beat her in the car, likely slamming her head into something which broke her nose. He freaked out after hurting her so bad and came up with the ridiculous idea to stage it. Once there he pulled her in the ditch when a car was coming by, holding his hand firmly over her mouth causing the bruising inside her mouth. Then he strangled her and continued staging the scene thinking she was completely dead. Makes sense to me.

They should have put a public plea out for the driver of the truck that had the pipes on it. Freak accidents do happen. Think of the Bud case where teens threw bricks from an overpass and one went through the windshield of the Bud's car and messed up the wife. I'm sorry but I can't think of the first names. A very sad case. But that kind of thing 'could' happen. I don't think it did in this case.

@sbinsdca Жыл бұрын
The brick thing is completely irrelevant. They checked multiple video cameras for a truck which was never there.
@sbinsdca Жыл бұрын
@@blueapple1730 i disagree. Bouncing objects can definitely go vertical after falling off a moving flatbed. The vertical vector of the pipe would depend on the speed of the flatbed truck, the initial angle of striking the asphalt, the roughness of the asphalt and the mass of the pipe. If you watch the reenactments you can see the pipe bouncing and flipping after striking the asphalt. However, the likelihood of it striking the windshield twice with one strike completely penetrating - then striking a person inside - is nearly zero. IIRC, the ME also testified her injuries were not consistent with a pipe striking her. It's clear he created the first strike on the windshield that did not penetrate the glass and had to redo it harder the second time for the pipe to penetrate.

But she didn't die at the scene or before she died at the hospital the next day. How is that even possible that she could die from strangulation the next day?
@awright1190212 жыл бұрын
She was barely hanging on to life and they pulled the plug on her. When strangled, it damages things in your neck destroying your ability to breathe on your own. She had head injuries/fractures as well. She was without oxygen for too long which causes massive brain damage. She could never recover from that, only be supported by machines forever.

I trust them until I'm in the middle of an investigation or a possible suspect. It is their job to get criminals to talk or catch them in lies. I'm so glad they do it so that I'm a little bit safer! But I know better than to put myself in that situation when I'm innocent because who knows what will fly out of my mouth! I will still cooperate and help all I can but with a lawyer to make sure I don't say something stupid. If you're guilty of a violent crime, just fess up because you need to be in jail.

He lied multiple times. Then, when caught in the lies, he changed his story. An innocent person doesn't do that.

He beat her and killed her with his bear hands. Must've really pissed him off.

he may have suspected affair. was Todd taking medication. the family is in denial of his guilt. cannot find motive. The green truck could have immediately got off the main road following accident.

The biggest thing that makes little weasels like that snap is either affair or wife saying she's leaving. I believe she finally had enough of him and said she wanted a divorce.

Todd was an extremely simple man, who beat his overbearing wife to death. And came up with a very simple story to try and get away with the murder. Nobody with a IQ out of the double digits would buy his story. Probably sounded a lot better in his head than it did trying to explain it to detectives. The thing that gets me is his family, I mean come on guys I known they love their father but u got to come to terms with what he did. Or maybe their as simple as he is?

Based on what I've heard about their text messages, it wasn't she who was overbearing.

Not 100 percent sure hes guilty still.

Look at the autopsy and all her injuries. Even if you believe the pipe can defy gravity, it could never cause the myriad of injuries she had. On top of that, why lie 3 times about where you were going if nothing bad was going on?

Come on guys. You do such a great job with these stories, can you stop with the profanity. The F-bombs are ANNOYING.

this one hit home. i was on the freeway once when a pipe flew up and stuck straight into the front grill of my car (just to the left of the driver side head lamp). I knew something had hit but had no idea what until people started honking and pointing causing me to pull off... where i then saw a 1" rod pipe sticking straight out of the grill of my car like an arrow! IT WAS CRAZY! and it took two guys to pull it out! had it hit 3-4 inches higher it would have shot straight trough my windshield killing me for sure. unlike this case, the freeway was busy (405 in LA) and came from a vehicle in front of me - NOT PASSING TODD!! insurance company thinks it most likely shot up from a semi trailers back wheel. I guess this happen all time when they run over stuff. but a fricken rod! still freaks me out!
