Short answer YES. Long answer, this is a game that spends a lot of resources on the mechanic of debuff and obstacles to stop the opponent from playing. Lower stats, change receiver, type, immunity, buff your defense, protect to stall, fake out to flinch and so on. When a Pokémon can abuse of crits to overcome any stat change and is immune to protect you have already cut out a sensible part of the game

Honestly what I hate about this urshifu meta is that we have to deal with Urshifu AND Tornadus. They invalidate a lot of cool Pokémon that simply cannot compete and it’s not like you can just outplay them with protect because of unseen fist. Prankster tailwind plus unseen fist is about as close to guaranteed damage you could get and it’s way too easy to do so

With as strong and flexible as the newcomer Ogrepon is with its multiple Masks, its Wellspring form has seen top cuts in major tournaments simply for its immunity to Surging Strikes and ability to Horn Leech the bear to death. Urshifu as a whole was a mistake and to me is perhaps the most egregious example of a pay-to-win Pokemon outside of Calyrex-Shadow.

Basically, if you want to get into Pokemon Competitive rn, you need to buy one copy of S/V, and a old game with a DLC for the only reason of getting one mon (you're getting more than one mon with the DLC, ofc, but that doesn't make it right) So yeah, that sounds like P2W to me.

I think urshifu rapid is a bit more toxic because at least wicked blow, you can keep your focus sash, and at least right now dark isn’t too great as an offensive typing (though I could be wrong, as it can deal massive damage to amoonguss) and it’s 4x weak to flutter mane, so I think that single strike way less metagame warping than rapid

Base 100 is not that much different. Both require speed support since speed goes way higher then base 100. Both are faster then some of the fastest stuff with speed support like tailwind like fluttermane. 120 might of made a massive difference but there’s still plenty of stuff faster then that without speed support ( like the aforementioned fluttermane )

The amount of times I’ve seen Flutter Mane switch in only to take a Heavy Slam or Flare Blitz shows that it can be played around quite easily. Even if you lead it, it can’t KO many popular Pokémon and drop from 1 move to most of them.

THIS! If you HAVE to rely on protect or the 20 other protection like moves to survive, then the problem is the moves that nullify ALL damage in the first place. Endure, protect, spiky shield, etc. No exceptions.. all of them are HORRIBLE! Urshifu just deals with the problematic skill and there's pokemon coming out that deal with that. You can also use neutralizing gas ability, ogrepon wellspring and several others just to roflstomp urshifu. He maybe strong but I find protect, endure, detect, etc WORSE!

Not a competitive player but enjoy watching such videos and honestly I have seen plenty of pokemon end up doing OH-KOs on their counterparts, IMO games should be rebalanced to avoid any pokemon getting OH-KOs regardless of anything, move, typing, stats, it just seems un-competitive to begin with. Let's say oponnent reads a switch correctly and gets the crit OH-KO on the mon you put in, you essentially have no way back and are down by one in just one attack, doesn't seem competitive to me. In any sport game teams can go back and forth trying to score points while in pokemon even if you do have skill there is still a shit ton of luck involved.

The way I see it, Competitive Doubles is not completely dead, but My God is playing around Urshifu such a Bitch and a Half when you also have Shit like Flutter Mane making life hard on people too. I'd rather not deal with a Mon That ignores Protect and it's varients while also having a Guarenteed Crit move that Also Doesn't give a Shit about Focus Sash or Sturdy because of it being a Multi Hit AND also getting a 50% Damage Buff in Rain because of being a Water type Move, AND can just Tera Water to make it hit even harder than it already will. And yeah, I'm specifically Talking about the Water version. The Dark version isn't THAT Much Better, but only because there isn't a Field Condition to Buff Dark moves (Yet), and they nerfed the BP of Wicked Blow a small bit.

I know it wasn't the point of making the said video just felt like false advertising to a degree showing off some cheaters using a busted poke. I don't think it ruins the metagame for urshifu has gotten the same false beliefs that some of the other current legends that it's to good. A better player in general can also outplay said legends. Urshifu is absurd. Protect is a central tool of competitive pokemon, disabling this mechanic is just broken. On top of this you can't intimidate, use charm, screens or anything to nerf its damage output because of the crit. In a game where position is so important, this is bad. A nerf I could think of (while not just removing the ability) would be that it can hit through protect for 25% damage (like max moves in Gen 8). And for the signature move, nerf it to 20 BP for Surging Strikes and 60 for Wicked Blow (Or just remove this fucking garanteed crit while raising the BP, but then you loose the spirit of the move 😅)

If we get nerfed unseen fist, then remove every single protect like move and item. Spiky shield, detect, endure, focus sash, the works. If you all get to play around with these annoying moces and items in general in the competitive scene then tbh, unseen fist is deserved to anyone abusing the garbage stated. Anything stopping a pokemon from dying in 1 hit is 'not skill'. Its not 'rng' or the like. It's just annoyance that makes it so that you get to keep pulling bs with your own min maxed mons/supports that refuse to die off and do just as much 1 hit KO's as he does. Want a problematic pokemon? Look at bloodmoon ursaluna. THAT things ability is nuts.... more op than urshifu!

My biggest counters that worked against both was a DF Build Rough Skin Rocket Helment Garchomp water tera with Breaking Swipe for Water Urshifu. Dark Urshifu was a Simple Mach Punch from Max ATK Breloom with Technician + Fighting Tera. And Give it Rocky Helmet in case of Focus Sash

The pokemon company doesn't ban pokemon like urshifu, if youre playing the official games you gotta adapt to them. The official games aren't run like smogon.

Honestly for me it doesn't kill competitive pokemon. I think what is hurting competitive pokemon right now is a unfortunate lack of creative teambuilding overall(at least from what I have seen). With an influx of a lot of new players the tendency is to default to a rotation of the same 10 pokemon with little to no variations which is why urshifu does so well. If the same 10 things make up the bulk of every team and urshifu can perform well in spite of them then it will continue to be used. Don't believe me? How many teams on stream for each event haven't features at least 4 of flutter mane, landorous(t), iron hands, urshifu, chien pao, heatran, hisuian arcanine, tornadus(i), rillaboom, and ogerpon? There is nothing with play what is meta cause its meta for a reason but urshifu doesn't have issues with it. So, it will continue to appear until the meta shifts to be unfavorable to it and its up to the players to create that shift.

I think it more up to Gamefreak to actually balance their game for once. After all, you can’t blame people for using the best Pokémon to try and win. But the fact some Pokémon are so blatantly overpowered makes it so trying anything different is a death sentence. Not that they will ever balance their games. If Gamefreak can’t even bother to make the game stable, why do you think they will try to balance a game with over a thousand characters?

@@waluigiisthebest2802 to be honest, I don't think they really consider game balance past a certain point cause they don't play competitive and see how they are used and perform. For example the usage rate of incineroar was definately not predicted. Honestly with over 1000 pokemon balance is kinda out the window as a byproduct. If anything they need to have much more limited formats that they cycle through like the kitigami paralogue rules, the likely upcoming blueberry paralogue, and regulation series (a) which all promoted higher levels of creativity. That and the home implamentation pre worlds was a mess altogether and shouldn't have happened. I am a firm believer that only hisui forms shouldve been the only ones brought in so they could've had a chamve to shine that they didn't get.

it wasn't exactly Urshifu that killed the Competitive, the Pokémon company itself with Dragapult (strong with 145 speed), Regieleki, Zacian (170 attack), and the stupid gimmics of each generation (which will never be better than Mega evolutions)

@M.W.2 I love Tera man so I completely agree. That's the only gimmick I want to come back as it gives so much potential competitively all the time. Everything else is too limiting, with maybe the exception of Dynamax. Defensive play in the middle of a hyper offensive trend, give me that 10 out 10 times.

Urshifu killed competitive? 😂 It can be outsped and killed pretty damn easily. It’s just a glass canon Mon if anything is “killing” competitive Pokémon it’s definitely these new gen mons like flutter mane, iron hands, Ogerpon or Sinistcha with the dumb amount of healing it offers

A Pokémon that kills mechanics and one that is just strong aren't the same. I can protect or lower the stats of any of these Pokémons, but it doesn't matter against him. Flutter mane is even more of a glass cannon than him. The speed of the single Pokémon doesn't matter that much in doubles

Urshifu could just Protect/Detect against people wanting to outspeed and KO, while it's partner deals substantial damage. It could also switch out. Meanwhile if an Urshifu wants to OHKO you, you can't even Protect against it. The only defensive play is burn or switch. But good luck surviving a Tera Water Urshifu. Urshifu also gets Aqua Jet BTW.

I don’t know how you two build teams but most of the time urshifu is the least of my problems. I will say that things like crit going through reflect and light screen is the dumbest mechanic because then there is 0 ways to stop a crit Mon besides running an anti crit Mon

Or they should ban the commonly banned stuff and you get 1 slot open to a minor legendary or Paradox Pokémon. Like think about using Iron Hands and then you can't bring Urshifu. In my mind limiting people to 1 lets you be free but forces you to team build VS just stacking your team with BS. Oh you can bring Urshifu but can't bring any other minor legendary or Paradox Pokémon. Go look at common teams and notice how if my idea was in place most teams would not be legal. This lets you have the 1 but that is it. In that world people would need to think again. I feel Urshifu is often backed by so many of BS things that forcing your limit to 1 minor legendary would then make it harder to stack a team. Even Urshifu is less useful if it has less speed control support around it. Paradox Pokémon being limited to the same slot also means you can't stack a team with those. The most common teams would not be legal and that to me says it was never a lot of these things alone but it was them used as a team. Alone I could deal with 1 thing that is a bit better than normal. Full legendary stuff can stay fully banned.
