And yet in the 834 AD Oseberg tapestry, which is from the Viking era, it depicts a Viking leader wearing ... a horned helmet. It kind of predates the modern day myth from the 19th century opera costume story as being the origin of Viking horned helmets ; )

I'm hoping you mean ceremonial here when you mention helmet... As someone who has reconstructed a headdress like that and worn one, I can confirm it's a terrible idea to use it in a combat scenario.

@@gregexD I disagree, I think it'd be beneficial on a helmet, it'd act like a cross guard on a sword hilt, a blow to the helmet wouldn't glance off and go straight to the shoulder, and thus affecting the use of the shield arm or weapon arm, the Oseberg tapestry depicts them, (horned helmets) and one must remember there's less than "5" Viking helmets found from that era.

@@angels-are-real8072 The horns including the helmet would need to be made of solid metal to stop blows, therefore it would be painfully heavy on the neck and head. Yes, the Oseberg tapestry is one example, but the weapon dancer figures are not fighting anyone here. A better example would be the depictions on one of the Vendel helmets, which shows a weapon dancer "throwing" and aiding a spear used by a horse rider. Still, I stand by my earlier statement.

@@gregexD Horns pretty tough you know, bet you couldn't break a long horn with two hands, and on a helmet it may indeed break from a glancing blow from an iron weapon to that helmet, but it wouldn't just glance straight off the helmet and hit the shoulder with force, it'd lessen the impact on that shoulder, allowing a Viking to still use his shield arm or deliver a deadly blow in return, and I too stand my statement : ) I don't buy into the "modern myth" that Vikings didn't have horned helmets, once again there's less than 5 Viking helmets from that era have been recovered and the Oseberg tapestry (from that era) clearly depicts horned helmets, but we'll just have to agree to disagree, you can believe it if you want, no worries there matey, after all rewriting history is nothing new, the woke cancel cultures doing it as we speak : )

The horns would generally be used to create fear and most likely actual horns fastened on. Actual horns are hollow and light weight. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bnq4iKmhabKohNk

All Norsemen wears a only kind of suits like contemporary privates? 5. There are enough archeological vestiges from norsemen suits? Greetings
