Your Roses are gorgeous and doing really well 💕. Aa for the, Moss rose, It grew great for me in Florida. Super easy but if it freezes, its never came back no matter where I lived. Up here in Northeast Alabama, it certainly doesn't but I've found that if I just pick up a few broken pieces off the ground at the garden center and I bring it home, stick it in the ground or in a pot that it grows huge and gorgeous in no time flat. Maybe this happens for you? To a Great surprise, I've noticed that my favorite annual is Impatients and it does come back each summer, and that's my Impatients. They never did that in the south though. I guess the seeds need stratified but I've been so happy to see all colors evey summer. I love roses of all kinds too.

The plant you were calling Rose Moss is called purslane 100% edible also a superfood. The seeds are very very small like miniature poppy seeds they will get in the ground all on their own you won't have to plant it there the stuff is very prolific and it will go everywhere.
@KKing552 жыл бұрын
@@curtisbacon7856 Interesting ~ TY for the info: Portulaca grandiflora, known as the annual Moss Rose, also has edible leaves, roots and seeds. The roots may be cooked; the leaves and seeds may be eaten raw or cooked, and the seeds ground into a powder for soups.

I had a neighbor who had a pet skunk. The spray sack was taken out. He walked him just like a dog. The skunk was friendly. The man who owned the sunk was my milk man who lived on the next street. He said the sunk was better protection than a dog. People would run when they seen them.

My Dad had a fixed pet skunk named Maggie back in the 80's. She would run and stop fast and do a handstand almost. She used a litter box and used the dog door to look for grubs at night.

Those canned pears are beautiful. When I saw your pineapple laying there, it reminded me of something I’ve done that we love. Sometimes I add a little pineapple juice to the lightly sweetened brine. It’s delicious. You have touched our lives in so many ways, thank you. ❤️

A sweet pleasure watching your early morning video from catching a skunk to canning pears! My hubby and I adopted a technique for peeling apples using a battery drill with a flat blade that has saved us hours of peeling. He sets the drill on its side on a towel with the apple on the end turns it on and with a peeler moves it along the apple, done in seconds. I can’t keep up with him. I quarter them and cut inside out and put in pot for applesauce. You could find it on KZbin but it has saved us hours of time over the old way of peeling. We haven’t tried pears as we haven’t processed them as underripe as you do so we need to try that. But have made pear jam though. Every thing is within 2 weeks of coming to harvest in Michigan so we will be busy as you are. Have an awesome day…skunkless!!!

I remember many years ago when I was young and dumb. We arrived on a job site to find a skunk. Well dumb me picked up a rock and threw it and killed the skunk. Needless to say it sprayed all over the house we were going to be working on. It smelled so bad we couldn’t work there that day. My boss chewed me up one side and down the other. He even threatened to fire me. I never forgot that day, and I never threw another rock at a skunk again.

As a young one I knew every abandon homestead and cabin, almost all had apple and pear trees, fruit for the taking. FIRST FROST BROUGHT OUT THE SWEETNESS OF APPLES ANX PEARS, BUT THOSE WERE REAL OLD APPLE STOCK NOT LIKE TODAYS CROSS BRED TASTELESS AND VITAMIN MINERAL EMPTY TYPES. SOME APPLES WERE EATING, SOME PIES AND THEN WE HADE OLDTIME CIDER APPLES, HARD CID3R WAS WHAT WE WERE WEAN ON AFTER MONS BREAST HURT OR RUN DRY.

We have way too many skunks in our area to get rid of them. They normally never bother my chickens or even us. But yesterday morning I was looking out the window and saw one. He/she was just digging in the burnt soil(we finally touched up the downed limb pile in the side yard)for grubs. Later after my coffee I go out to open the chickens and there's little stinker eating my only pearl oyster mushrooms, that had finally started to flush again! There was only a small flush of about 5 or 6 showing but I missed the first flush they got buggy. I do have 2 logs over there where the small log is hoping for it to spoor to them. But at least mrs/Mr stinky didn't bother my established logs of golden oysters. We ended up with several pounds of beautiful golden oyster mushrooms. I dried most of them for this winter tho. It should flush out maybe one or 2 more times this year. I missed out the first flush of them too, I just didn't expect them this early in the season. We have shiitake mushrooms seeded into 7 logs out back too that look like they can be triggered into flushing out soon. Have you ever tried growing mushrooms at deep south Homestead? Shiitake-if dried gills up in the sun reportedly have huge amounts of vitamin D which we can use all winter here in the north for sure. I have other mushrooms that come up naturally like yellow morels and giant puffballs. Some medicinal types but I havent used them they just pop up wild. Turkey tail and dryad saddle/pheasant saddles.

I trimmed back my large rose bush this morning. My hibiscus is pink and still blooming here in Michigan. It's the hardy variety. Last night I had to remove my pea plants. I picked peas then we were gone a couple days and upon return they had powdery mildew covering them. I salvaged what I could to dry and keep as seeds going forward.

Those beautiful Moss Rose plants are also called Purslane, Portulaca, Eleven O'clock, Mexican Rose and several other names. They are very beautiful and have a nutritional value as well. Your Rose bushes are beautiful as well. I have one Rose bush that struggles every year. The first year I had it it out on large red roses and the next year nothing and this past spring it was loaded with very small red roses. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. I try to follow instructions for feeding it each year but I'm thinking maybe I should give it a good pruning to see if that helps it out. Oh my goodness...... those Pears are GORGEOUS!! I don't care for pears but those are beautiful!! It makes me want to get some to can.

Their skat will smell slightly like skunk too. We had one dig under our barn side and burrowed under some skids. When we moved the skids it smelled faintly of it.
