We have been in a boat shed for two years now. How that time has even passed is beyond me, but here we are. Our steel sailboat has transformed from a swiss cheese pile of steel to a painted hull with an interior still in pieces... and you have had some questions along the way. And we are here to answer them!
Head over to www.the-wayward-life.com/ and scroll to the very bottom of the page (or add your email to the pop-up) to join our mailing list and recieve the extended version of this q&a, including our new boat name, our predicted launch date, and some more exciting info as well!

Life is what happens as we make our plans. Things that are not worked for are rarely valued. The skills you have developed rebuilding your boat will forever work for you in respect to maintenance and addressing problems later on. Life is not about the destination, we all no where that goes, it is about the journey. My best to you both, and I look forward to your continued adventure to get your boat into the water.

I have SO MUCH RESPECT for you both, Logan & Taryn! I have spent the past ~3 weeks binge watching all of your episodes from Ch4 ep.48 to here, as well as various other ep's before + had already subscribed and watched your recent ep's over the past 6 months, including now FINALLY back in the water. With the Gods as my witness, if I could bankroll whatever you would need as well as what you might want, I do wish that I could just materialise it all for you, it seems to me that you very much deserve it and more. As I know well and say, Life ain't easy,... In my opinion you both have done such completely admirable and honest and such commendable work, for all of your grindingly persistent and yet humble, calm and acceptingly gracious poise, against so many obstacles and setbacks! Boats hey! Yes indeed! But,... we MUST press on,... I would love to, in some at this stage unknown way, be able to cross nautical paths one day to just meet, talk, share food and drinks AND discuss not only our yachts common heritage, but the struggles, differences and things common that our very different life journeys have been. Wishing you all the very best ahead! Bruce & SY Mistress, Sunshine Coast, QLD, Australia.

Logan hit it right at 02:30, responsible people. Making the boat safe. More on this later. Haha, I went the same with 18V Makita. Now I am thinking of having part of the DC system at 24, 48V! Like 48V down to 12V or 18V or 48V for an electric motor. Or 12V system with an inverter???? Steel boats are so much stronger. But if you do not maintain them you pay right now. Plastic boats let live a bit and when all is rotten you scrap the boat. What were the plates thickness when the survey was done? I. I/we think you have a wonderful boat. You made no mistakes, just do not go to crazy on the reno? It is a steel boat you will have to circle back on a regular basis. Use the material to its end-of-life cycle. Cheers, a.

I don,t know if this helps, but i follow a lot of starting sailors that you tube and they all end up where you are now, a boat not yet finished and about to hit rock bottom. As with a lot of them remember that you are on the good side, the finishing part of this, so think about these amazing anchorages you are going to enjoy in the future with your solid reliable boat. This is just a rant from a dutch armchair sailor, so...😉👍

Bust Out Another Thou. Hey, I love those Normans, you'll appreciate her once she's structurally sound and taking you places in style and comfort, she's a looker. Satfone, radar, solar/wind generators, kimberly wood stove, W/D would be my priorities over a watermaker in BC. Lots of glacier fed streams and rain :)

Yeah it will be worth it once we are back on the water! I’m thinking we are going to have to build some kind of rain catchment system. It can be hard to find streams up north that are drinkable cuz they are “cedar water”. I’m not sure what the technical reason is, but brown water that isn’t really consumable. We def came close to running out of water in the Broughtons and were surprisingly low in options for refilling. But yes the electronics will def be on the list before the water maker

@@WaywardLifeSailing Cedars can impart toxins from the roots - I'm more worried about dead animals up stream, talk to local natives, they'll steer you in the right direction. Drank clear fresh fast moving creek water here all my life, never an issue - yet hahaha. Pick the right creek ;) Also depends on the season. I typically have a tank just for drinking water but could use bleach to treat water for showers, dishes etc... and drinking in a pinch. If you're not comfortable, boil it on your Kimberly stove :D - string a clean food grade tarp off your whisker pole and bob's your uncle 🤪

Trust me, when you get back on the water all this hard work well be just a memory. A hard Memory, but just a memory ! You will be thankful that you did it in the long run. You will have more Faith in the boat 🚢 abd what she can do. But before I would put her in the water, go though all your electrical and repair or replace what you can. And go though your engine. Make sure it is in great working order. That way your mind will be at ease. Sents the Mast is down on the ground I would replace all your Cables an electrical that you can. Just way easier that way. Just a few things off the top of my head. Things I learned the hard way. It may keep you out of the water a bit longer. But it is one last thing you want have to do on the water. And more time to injoy the boat 🚢 and your time on the water. There is always something to fix on a boat but as long as it is small things thats not that bad. Just like a house there is something to do or fix. Just on a boat 🚢 it could mean sinking or swimming for your life. Ok Thank you so much for taking us along on your journey. And I hope to see your sails ⛵️ on the Horizon someday from my lanai here on the Big Island. We can swap boat 🚢 stores. Ok until next time ⏲️, Aloha from the Big Island of Hawaii! Where the Water is warm year-round and the sun sets are to die for. Aloha
