Are you looking for something more low density, calm and peaceful or something more active with a city buzz? Let us know!

Maybe a video on the big changes to the Porto and Lisbon metro systems and what that will mean for (hopefully) increasing options for places to live in both cities? Linha Rosa and Linha Ruby could be pretty interesting for Porto...

I have been following your channel for a while and find your videos packed with a lot of useful information. I think when people visit smaller Portuguese towns, the locals tend to stare at outsiders. Both of you could pass for looking Portuguese to me and not foreigners if I saw you in a larger city in Portugal. I'm Portuguese and get stared at by other Portuguese in smaller towns. Thank you for all your useful information, and I applaud you both for integrating into the Portuguese community's as you have.

We love living a bit outside of Lisboa (30km), but near enough we can drive in or take the bus/train...3 mins to a depot! So suburbs are awesome, but I'd never be without a car! I love public transportation, but also love having a car!! Great vlog as usual!!!

So Rio Tinto is a suburb, with all the characteristics of a suburb, such as few rental units and a family orientation.

In spring 2021 Azores were desperate for tourists after covid and had an amazing deal $500🇨🇦 via Toronto flight & accommodations single occupancy rate. You won't be surprised the solo travelers taking advantage of THAT from all over 🇨🇦 I don't know if it was getting released from covid bondages or what. But I have been looking for a place on the mainland that might competes with Angra do Heroismo. I fell in love with the island and that place. Couldn't believe the yearly membership on the one golf course, the volcanic pools, the angry ocean Waves on the north, the wind in the crater?... Yikes. The subsidies from the EU made it very liveable for every citizen I talked with. Surprisingly returnees from North America that immigrated in the 60's as children. Many of these immigrated to my neighborhood in🇨🇦. Returned to look after grandparents and stayed on after their death and inherited their properties. So many English speakers. The firehall in Heroismo that has a cafeteria for the high school kids and city workers was especially great for cheap lunches(incl wine) and meeting the locals. Is there a place or region on the mainland like this island? Or was I suffering from covid travel fever? Id like to be on the mainland. Scouting in September. The following year went to the Algarve. Mehhhh toooooo touristy but great weather. Sorry this got sooooo long

Why don't you visit the north of Portugal? There are places like Viana do Castelo,Caminha,Vila Praia de Âncora(on the cost close to Spain). These are small cities with some tourism in the summer but not as much as in Algarve. The ocean water is colder,the winters too and it rains a lot what makes the north greener. Still in the north but not by the sea,ytou have Ponte de Lima,Arcos de Valdevez,Ponte da Barca....Gerês is a beautiful region,with a lot of hiking possibilities,waterfalls. The "big"city for the region is Braga wich is one of the oldest cities in Portugal.

If/when I move to Portugal I'd like to be between Vianna do Castelo and Vigo (Spain). Both of you did so much without driving. I have a feeling that if you got an EU driver's license and finally purchased a car your life experiences would be brought to an entirely different level. If you can, please try. It's worth the expense. Remember we only live once. Portugal is surely a car friendly country, plus you can drive to Spain and even France. Double check if your finances allow you to own a vehicle but, even if you can't keep one, try to get any EU license. Plus, you can release new content on how your life changed after you start driving. 🙂

Cars are OK to drive long distances but not to drive and park in a city like Porto. If you don't drive long distances regularly a car is a waste of money. Rent a car instead.
@TheSimArchitect

@@forget3817 The point of my comment was to bring into perspective having a license to drive was beneficial. Also, depending where you live, it's very convenient to own a car. Specially in their case, where they're a couple with a child and prolific media producers. I stayed a couple of weeks in Vianna do Castelo and we drove around Portugal and Spain a little bit. It would be impossible to enjoy what we did without a vehicle, sorry. Now, is spending more to upgrade your lifestyle a waste of money? Maybe yes, maybe not. It depends on your choices and your personal situation. I am a single 46 year old man and I flew to Brazil, then to Portugal, then returned to the NL. Paid fees and dealt with bureaucracy to get my license transferred here. Since they're digital media creators I assume they're using the 30% deduction from profit instead of assessing costs x profits for tax purposes. Otherwise, they could even get a vehicle and their licenses fixed as business expenses since it's perfectly justifiable and close to the core of their activity (not legal advice, that's how I'd do in the Netherlands if I were doing what they're doing etc etc).

Owning a car can be quite a burden. I'm enjoying the luxury of not having a car, and it is great! I have a Portuguese license, and will occasionally rent a car for a trip where bus, train, or plane won't work. I need a car about 3, maybe 4 times a year. The rest of the time, my wife and I get by great without it. Life is better without a car,.

@grizfan93 I like not needing it but having it. There's expenses and work involved but at least purchasing can be quite affordable, if used and old enough.

@@TheSimArchitect €10K will pay for a lot of car rentals and Uber/Bolt rides. When ever we get the itch to hit the road, we have soooo many better options available, though. For €7 round-trip, I can get from where I live in Braga to the center of Porto in about an hour, and not have to worry about traffic, parking, tolls, fuel, or the cost of keeping a car. Last Fall, we did a road trip through Peneda-Gerês park with a rented car. It was perfect. Why would I want to purchase a depreciating asset and leave it unused most of the time? Nothing destroys wealth quite like the automobile.
