I ate at the original Gazela the day that Anthony Bourdain passed away. He was a big influence on me going to Portugal and I remember feeling heartbroken walking in and sitting down at the bar. The guys poured me a beer, passed me a sandwich drizzled in that amazing chili oil and with the first bite I felt a warmth and comfort I will never forget. With tears running down my face one of the cooks asked me if it was ok, I responded yes! Then I just said Tony’s name. The cook pointed over my shoulder at a picture of Anthony sitting in the same spot I was sitting and we laughed and taped icy cold glasses of beer in his memory. It was a moment I will never forget.

The "magic" of the portuguese cuisine it's the simplicity. Simple ingredients, simple methods, and grat results. It's not fancy as the french, it's the opposite. The beauty of simplicity.
@silver_surfer889 ай бұрын
Yes! We get away with it because of the extreme quality of the ingredients so not much additives needed, sometimes just a pinch of salt a bit of olive oil and you can cook a lot of dishes like this.

I miss Europe so much. This video made me cry. Those sandwiches are such a work of art!!!!! There are people in the U.S who can make such sandwiches. UNFORTUNATELY, the average person in the U.S has no appreciation for such luxury. Which means that the world of sandwiches in the U.S is in limbo. It will take years for the average person in the U.S to be like the Portuguese seeing their food as a national treasure. Micah is such a grandma magnet. Ying has been so welcomed where ever she goes. You, Ying and Micah have been developing an extended family on an International level. Your videos are helping people adjust to the idea of travel. When friends of mine ask me who to watch, I point them to your videos. When my friends came back to the U.S, they told me that when they would drop your name, their faces light up, and my friends were treated so well. This makes your videos sort of a letter of introduction.

Congratulations on creating such an great video showcasing the foods of my home city! Your ability to accurately portray the sensations and overall experience of dining in Portuguese taverns is unique. One of the finest food videos I've ever seen, as it gave me a vivid understanding of the dishes and flavors, ones I know quite well. You've done a remarkable job capturing that essence on video, something that can be challenging to do without firsthand experience. also, It's evident that you had an excellent guide to support you

Ok,i knew this video would be perfect when they start with Xico dos Presuntos, for the presunto sandwiches and Cervejaria Astro, for the bifana sandwiches. 2 of the most iconic places in Porto. This is our fast food, all natural ingredients, cooked and served on the spot. And its awesome for me to see my hometown being shown to the world, with its culinary wonders. You may called me biased, but portuguese food is the best in the world. Bar none.

I live in Porto. Thank you for showing cheap places to eat rather than high-end restaurants (there are here too). This is my kind of food prices under 15 euros.

Great food trip, as usual ! Digestif is the french word for the last drink before going to sleep, to help your body works to deal with the meal(s). Even in Portugal they use our expression. Happy to see that, Portos are our bros ! Et ça donne grave envie...
