I was repairing and rebuilding engines from age 19 and I still find it strange that not everyone gets a thrill out of doing this. My suggestion is that you take a little time out to watch YT videos of engine maintenance so that you can do it yourself in an emergency. Then make sure that you have the necessary tools and spare parts. But the main thing is to learn what maintenance work must be done and how often. Thanks for another entertaining video, lad & lassie (or hinnie).

as a former small boat owner myself i know your pain. I think one piece of valuable safety advice i would give you would be to buy a small 3-4hp auxiliary engine for when there's a problem with the main engine - they're also far more economical to run but obviously much slower - you wont get onto the plane for sure !

I completely agree with this. Accidents happen, for example if the prop hits a rock you can sheer the pin and you're left with a working engine that has no drive. Get a couple of oars too.

When I went to Scotland for my holidays on the West Coast of Argyle. I was amazed at how many boats in the harbours had two or even three engines. When I look at films or documentaries of WWII MTB boats or RAF launches in the engine room is two diesel engines kicking out tons of Horse Power to get the boats home! 🚢

Hi guys, its definitely worth picking up a wee vintage Seagull outboard as an auxiliary, you can get perfectly good working ones for around £100 or so,a wee bit noisy and a wee bit smokey, and you'll not be breaking any speed records, but it will get you out there and back again if the main outboard ever acts up on you.

Spare engine for the emergency bracket. Follow Dangar Stu. Service the engjne, the carb the lower unit and all the rigging. It’s all doable and no need for professionals which is expensive normally. Service is Job#1 Spare motor is job #2 For reversing, put your hand on the *bottom* of the steering wheel, then just move your hand in the direction you want the trailer to go. You can practice without the boat on your lane. Then you’ll be pros in no time.

The person you bought the boat from may still have the manual that came with the engine when it was new, it would be worth asking. Preventative maintenance is much better than hoping for the best. I expect that an online search will help you find the maint. procedures you need. The more you get to know your engine by looking after it and making adjustments when required the less you will have to worry about.

You know,I could comment on how I love the way you guys say the word ‘cow’,and I could comment on how a boat is a live/hate relationship, and I could comment on how Richard is a force of nature, and I could comment on the semi-functional oats, but,no. I must adress the fish heads. Ok,sure, you freeze them for use in your lobster pots, fair enough. But next time that you find yourselves with a surplus of fish heads, boil them in a soup. Fish head soup! It’s the eyballs and the cheeks and collar, right by where the gills were,it all comes together into a delicious almost gelatinous delicacy. It’s true! That, and a bit of nice crusty bread,AAAAH ❤️

You might be wondering what semi-functional oats are. Well they are certainly packed with good healthy fiber,I’m sure, but I meant to say semi-functional oars, which are also, presumably, packed full of good healthy fiber, but I wouldn’t recommend it for breakfast.

Great video as usual. Next time you fit and riveted items to your boat (or car) consider putting some sealant under the fitting before riveting. For a car this prevents rust, on your boat it should seal it better.

The only experiences I have had with boats were in Alaska. We had a 21 foot aluminum river boat that "flew" swiftly along the rivers to our favorite fishing spots. It was interesting to learn to "read" the river (which shifted all the time) so as to stay in the channels and avoid the gravel bars. We took it out into deeper waters, as well. I am so glad that Wayne was able to help you with your engine woes. Richard, too! He can now firmly add shoreline boat towing to his long list of skills. He is a GOOD friend! Much good luck in your boating adventures, Willie and Sarah... That glass of whisky by the fire looked very relaxing. May you continue to share such evenings always! Hugs to Jack!

Oh I'm so glad it was such an easy fix! My old man loved his boat. Best advices I can give you, get a license (if you don't have one already, so you know the rules & laws), ensure your radio works (if none, buy a goid one), and ALWAYS, and I do mean it, always check the marine weather. We almost lost our lives, the only time my old man didn't check the weather.... Also a trick for reversing and towing, put you hand down at the 6 o'clock on your sreering wheel and turn right if your trailer neds to go right, turn left if your trailer needs to go. It won't be so confusing then. Practice makes perfect :) Sarah, you'll have to paint your new friend!! And how about Jack???!!!

At least the engine was repairable. Surely saved you a bundle. I hope you have good life jackets and proper oars. Safe fishing! 🙂👍👍🇨🇦

Hello willie and Sarah, I think willie was brave to help you with your hair coloring. He did a great job, I think the color of orange is the artist in you Sarah. I think the color of orange kind of grows on me, as I watch more of your videos. I wonder what the hair color of golden brown color would look like with your dark color hair? But I'm sure you've tried all different kinds of hair colors. And they are all unique in choice. Glad Willie was able to get the boat repaired without having to replace the engine. Thanks for sharing this video.

Great morning there. That robin was cute. Nice wild raspberries. Not good to hear the boat giving problems. 😞 But glad it is fixed now and all is good. Lovely day out there in Skye.

Great episode. All the elements: drama, comedy, an adorable dog, wildlife and berries, plus the timely intervention of a good friend.

We have been hand feeding a fledgling for a while now and it's so cheeky / relaxed it hops around the kitchen looking for food! Curiously out of the four or five chicks we had this is the only one that will do this - the others are still too skittery to do this (though a couple will feed from our hands).

Well done the three of you for getting the boat out and the engine fixed, I love the new boat cover what a great idea! Your fire pit is fabulous, how cozy and fun.
