One thing that shocked me was just how racist Medieval Arabs were, saying Black Africans had the souls of beasts and weren't really human.
@KaytalHEL2 ай бұрын
Souls of beasts, being not human, their lives didn't matter... this ideology had to be believed also to get away more easily with slave trade. They are not humans, you can trade/treat them as animals... Was also maybe a way to push people into conversion. Because as soon as "the beast" became moslim, it became a human being, dignified by the peaceful religion and the prayers, respecting the laws written by God... I'm not sure but I presume this mindset was also spread by christians in Africa (and other places in the world) Your soul is dark if you are not baptised, etc etc.

Note also the caste system in India, dating back some 3500 years ago. The lighter skinned peoples arriving from the North West had a brief period of intermingling with the then indigenous population, before such mixing ceased and the 'races' were separated by rigid caste distinctions.
@frankiestein84822 ай бұрын
caste is not race based so lets not confuse 18th century european race theories of some made up aryan race theory when in india many ;high' castes are also very dark skinned as like most indians who are all skin tones across all castes .
@davidwilson48462 ай бұрын
@frankiestein8482 The only reliable evidence we have is from DNA studies, albeit still from a small (but growing) database in places like India. Most people would regard that as a bit more reliable than the other sources about the origins of the caste system, but if you have a better explanation then let's hear it here. As for skin tones (note my use of 'races' in inverted commas), obviously there will be exceptions. But as a general rule, Brahmins tend to be lighter skinned than the other castes. Or do you disagree? Finally, we only have moderately reliable census information from the late 19th Century. It proved impossible to reflect the sheer complexity of the caste system (30k + categories) as well as accommodate the inevitable variations between different regions. The simplified categories that were eventually adopted (and remain in use today, more or less) were deeply controversial and remain so. It is not a subject that tolerates definitive statements, generalisations are often the best we can do - whilst acknowledging the limitations. So feel free to challenge, but perhaps help readers by also proposing something better?
@KaytalHEL2 ай бұрын
@@frankiestein8482 exactly, I did read somewhere that caste system was originally introduced to make life easier around food consumption for people in society. Vegetarians were separated from meat eaters, making it easier for preparing/serving/cleaning the food, birds of a feather flock together kind of thing. Later with time passing by, caste systems got introduced within more aspects of life etc.

I agree I'm tired of this race crap I'm irish Canadian and metis I'm tired of it the irish were treated bad too they got it from all ends in the usa they were attacked and over 100 killed because some black Americans didn't like them thinking they were taking what they felt should be theirs. My family didn't have slaves and my great great grandfather died he was the fire chief in the halifax explosion where 2 ships collided one was carrying explosives for the war. Many died many lost limbs eyes etc many children suffered in that as well. Not all whites come from slave owners and even the ones that do why should they be punished for what some of their people did in times past but the democrats and liberals who are white and black want to punish us all they cause division they always call the other side racist but it was the right who faught and died trying to save them even on the high seas it's funny how these white democrats and liberals don't include themselves in this and rich left leaning celebrities either it was the liberals and democrats who treated people of color horrible they enslaved them they faught to keep slavery and when they lost they started up the kkk and jim crow laws yet some people of color don't even mention it because they are putting people of color in high postions even as president but what they don't get is the people they put in these positions are out for themselves they don't care about their own people is why when they are in power nothing changes their way of helping is releasing violent black criminals back into their communities and now all these illegals they promise reparations for decades they will never get it from them they use it to trick them to vote yet they throw the rest of white people under the bus for their parties crimes against people of color in the past to me that's twisted evil and then cause division and lies about the right yet when the right is in power thats the only time they see improvements in their communities all the democrats do is let them attack whites on every platforms even physically they let them loot burn down cities and mass steal from stores and people that doesn't help no one and nobody can fight back if they are shooting at you or attacking you or breaking into your house or car if we fight back and they get hurt or die we will end up in jail same with white cops. I can't stand the brainwashing they have done they accuse the right of taking womens rights away yet they can't define what a women is and they took most of all womens rights for these trans women even the language around how we see and call our own bodies even mothers bothers trans women they win everything to do with women sports safe spaces but they wont even listen to the facts about some men use this to gain access to women and children all they have to say is their a women even if they do nothing to even look like a women even putting violent rapers in jail with women. They call the right misogynistic yet sone trans women and their supporters are more misogynistic then what they call the right. They brainwashing kids to go along with their extreme ideologies is why their obsessed with kids even teaching crt and dei to children and inappropriate lgbtq stuff yet in meeting with the town and school board they freak out when parents read some of the books they have in the schools and arrest parents saying the books their reading out is very inappropriate and the parents say if it's inappropriate then why do you have it in schools libraries then and they never answer why because they can't they are hypocrites even the medical boards changing the language around females and children never men tho changing facts and science for feelings for one small group but taking away everything mostly from females that's a huge group just because some females go along with it especially around sports but you never hear of trans men who are biological female fighting to get into men's sports they don't because they know they will lose 100% to men who compete in these se sports is why it's unfair for biological men to be in womens sports and even science they twist for their narratives plus they never help all people only certain groups that they support and even when people lost their homes amd families in those storms it's already been proven and people fired for not helping people who had trump sighs and the 750 the government offered most couldn't even access getting that money when they spent billions on illegals I think like 30 something billions on them and only spent 3 billion on homeless vets even when Hawaii had that huge fire they offered 750 dollars for cloths and food most couldn't even access it. 80 million that was ment for the black communities with blm they spent millions on themselves their friends and family 1 head leader bought 3 homes and the rest went to the lgbtq nothing went to people of color look up their tax forms and money they could of helped the black communities went to illegals they lie manipulate and blame everyone else on the right for all their crap they do. You cant fix stupid either people will keep voting for them kamala paid over a billion dollars to all these celebrities wow. But back to the racism even youtube tictoc will allow anyone to be racist towards whites but if a white person even says anything they are kicked off the site. No race on earth is guilt free of crimes against humanity and slavery there are slaves today in Africa mostly children and they are enslaved by their own people and also child soldiers forsed labor forsed into sex trafficking mutilations on young girls even genocide like in rawanda all black on black even the congo even haiti and other places even the usa most black killings are done by their own people yet if you talk about it youtue bans you for 24 hours from texting on their site. Even facts gets you baned I'm tired of it all. Even the news when crimes and killing happens they only say it's a white person when it is a white person but won't say anything if it's an illegal or a person of color that's when we know it's a person of color they say it discourages the black communities it makes them look bad well it already does stereotypes are for reasons not for nothing and hiding it and not talking about the problems they have doesnt help anyone it only makes if worse for them all because that's why change for the better never happens. Some are perfectly ok to punish inosent people for the crimes of the past but it never includes the 2 parties who did the worst to people of color and still does and that's democrats and liberals

Slavery in Europe had been replaced by serfdom after the fall of the Roman Empire. Around 1500 AD the discovery of the Americas and its exotic crops like tobacco, cotton and sugar etc meant that Europeans after the black death went to the slave markets of Africa - that had happily continued in trading slaves to the Arabs for a millennia - to recruit its labor for the plantations in the americas. The advantage of black slaves from africa over european white slaves was that the black slaves were identifiable and had less chance of escape.

Humans have for all time seen others as something less than, something foreign. Initially humans lived in family groups and then villages and eventually city states. At all times along this journey they viewed everyone else as something less. From there we developed nations and wide spread religions. As our reach increased our definitions of others has morphed but it has always been there and always will. Even the most tolerant people still prefer their own people (whoever they might be).

As a historian, common knowledge to me is that every region in the world has endured being raped, enslaved, invaded peoples w/o provocation, since the beginning of time, regardless of skin color, typically for glory, natural resources, etc. And disliked people more for being a diff, culture than there's. For example, Muslim armies spread Islam; if a great city converted to Islam, it was integrated, if they said no, they were slaughtered & enslaved. Sub-Saharan African empires, raided tribes for slaves way before 1492, and when slaves were suggested for the America's, someone said hey, places we trade with along the African coast have slaves, let's get them there. Everyone that calls themselves a historian or loves History would know these things, smh. 🧐

Racism is an issue that in North America and Western Europe has been addressed in many ways, through expansion of the civil rights and through education, laws and institutions. If you´d like to witness racism and discrimination in all its form, just take a trip to South America, where being black it´s a social disadvantage. In Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Cuba and many other Latin American countries with tens of millions of African descendants racism is rampant. In Brazil, the beaty pageant was a clearly example for decades with only European descendants representing the country year after year. African descendants lack all kinds of representation in South America, politically, socially and economically.

Show me sysmatic racism before Europeans.. Before European colonialism, systemic racism as it is understood today-where institutional structures are built to maintain racial hierarchies-was not as explicitly documented. However, forms of discrimination and social stratification based on ethnicity, culture, or perceived differences existed in many societies. Examples of Pre-European Discrimination: Ancient Egypt (c. 1500 BCE): The ancient Egyptians often viewed Nubians (from modern-day Sudan) as "inferior" and depicted them in art with stereotypical physical features.While this wasn't strictly racism, it reflected ethnocentric attitudes tied to military conquest and cultural superiority. Caste System in Ancient India: The caste system in South Asia predates European colonialism by thousands of years and was based on strict hierarchies. While rooted in religion, it often created divisions that could align with ethnic or physical traits.Darker-skinned groups, particularly in southern India, were historically relegated to lower castes, though this is a complex cultural phenomenon rather than racial in the modern sense. Greco-Roman World: The Greeks and Romans exhibited ethnocentric attitudes, often labeling non-Greeks or non-Romans as "barbarians."They enslaved people from other ethnic groups but did not base this on a modern concept of race. Slavery was more tied to conquest, nationality, or religion. Islamic Caliphates and African Slavery: The trans-Saharan slave trade (beginning around the 7th century) involved Arab states enslaving African people. Though not based explicitly on race, it included stereotypes about Africans being "suited for servitude."These attitudes influenced later European racial ideologies.Key Distinction:These examples involve discrimination and hierarchy but lack the pseudoscientific racial theories and global systemic oppression that European colonial powers developed and exported during the modern era. While forms of systemic inequality existed, the racialized systems that dominate modern history were deeply shaped by European ideologies during colonial expansion.

I think racism occurred when modern humans met neanderthals. I believe it's in our DNA to be suspicious of a different culture. When we learn about them then common interests and cultural attitudes/norms lead to understanding..
