there is a special place in my heart for nurses, they often don't get the recognition that they deserve..

That story from Daisy Spickett @7:03 about unwrapping the head bandages from the soldier was absolutely inspirational and touching. How she recognized that we was looking intently for her reaction to help determine his condition, and she chatted with him and teased him a little, and tried to make him smile. She was looking out for that soldier and did what was needed. Bless her.

Amazing effort by all those women. Should have earned them more respect than it did, post war. Did the other nations in WW1 also use women in heavy industry roles, and in supporting roles in the armed forces? Or was this a British thing only?

Canada also used women in a similar way to Britain during WW1

The idea of the good old days that things were better then is often just based on peoples memories. One example being ‘oh you could leave your doors open then’. In reality that was because nobody had anything worth stealing

Hey, I have a question. Did you question people that were there during the war or what? I was quite confused there. Thanks!

Hi, yes we have collected stories from lots of people who were eyewitnesses to the events we cover. You can find more by searching our collection at www.iwm.org.uk.

The last veterans passed before the video was made but some museums and historians interviewed people from the period from the 1960s on. There are black and white interviews on KZbin with WW1 veterans
