Did you know about the Outcast Fan Sequels?

I thought it was about time we had a look back at the two playable demos from Open Outcast.
These games are a real testament to the love spurred on from the original game.
...and a real test of my patience.
From the 2007 original release of the first demo Gandha,
To the 2017 Legacy of the Yods.
This was originally a cheeky April Fools bait and switch, just incase you're wondering.

Oh wow, this vid is fantastic! I was on the original dev team for openOutcast, going right back to that original and now hilarious looking Ghanda release from the mid 2000s. It was my dream to become a game composer. I was responsible for the music and almost all of the sound, most of which makes me cringe hearing it back now. I actually voiced about half the talan, too, including the Shamaz 😂 My more talented 'colleagues' voiced the rest. I recall there was an unusually high level of passion on the project, and I remember very well that literally all of the team were fantastic guys, with a great collective sense of humour and humility. Good times. Oh, and recreating that jump animation was definitely a conscious effort, I remember that discussion 😂 Great video, thanks for this, and hilarious at points. So glad I found it. Subbed. Ps. I'm now a working media composer. Dream achieved!

Oh boy . I remembered playing that first open outcast demo back in the day after completing the original game ... That green texture really stuck with my mind!. I knew of the cry engine one but only played the oasis demo. Really impressive . I can't believe we live in a world where Outcast 2 finally exist now.

This series has really come a long way hasn't it. It's great to see the history of it outside of the games. The fans really are wonderful.

That latter one looks like it actually used elements of the remaster of the first game. or at least was heavily informed by it's look.

I guess there’s just a look that will always be produced when creating new versions of the old game assets like the buildings and so on. But the Legacy of the Yods was in development and had already produced a different demo even before the remaster was announced. So it’s in the clear :) although they did scramble to get the demo I play out JUST before the remaster released AND put it up on steam which was a little cheeky. They were asked to take it down from there 😅

A bit disappointed that they had to downgrade the graphics a bit but the gameplay looks on point.

Really was taken aback by those moons. But it’s very understandable as to why they now look like low resolution .png files
