The directors originally pitched the film idea to Oprah while on a trip to Disneyland. It wasn't exactly a serious pitch, more "just for fun", but Oprah fell in love with the idea. She liked it so much that she even insisted on being a part of it. She ended up even playing the voice of Eudora, Tiana’s mom, in the film!
