Its not a surprise having lived for such a long time here, but I can tell you that he's not only fluent: he sounds one hundred per cent spanish, like I couldn't tell if he is a spaniard of not if I didn't knew it beforehand, and yes, thats quite impresive even living in a country for 5 years. Also, Slovenian isn't part of the same family of spanish, which makes the process even harder, I mean its not like if he was portuguese or italian...

My point is that since mechanics and vocabulary are closer to one another, its probably to get to learn the language pretty easily, but, as you are saying, later on, when it comes to perfetionate it, probably being able to be understood easier makes them be les capable of get rid of some kind of mistakes where nobody is going to correct them because everybody gets what they are trying to say. Anyways, I know a little bit of italian, but I dont know a single thing about your mother tongue (I whish I knew), so, It can be that for some reason Slovenians are good at learning spanish, I dont know XD.
