Medieval Oxford is visible through all the layers of Oxford’s history. The Castle mound dates from 1057, and you can still find remnants of the old wall in Merton and New College. But did you know that, in Medieval Oxford, Magdalen was actually ✨outside the walls✨?
Magdalen only became included in the City of Oxford’s limits around the 1800s - so for most of our history we haven’t really been in Oxford at all!
