what about cantilever beam. for eg 10 ft long 8 inch by 16 inch. where it is only supported by 3 feet of support. 7 feet is in the air. Do you still do a truss design?

Here’s the thing. Why is a stage nice and clean? Joins in a truss. That many pins, that many R clips.. if one has gone missing and fallen out during movement, full on stage shutdown..

Amen Krazydrummer. Aluminum Truss is cool for lights and video walls but whoever builds staging towers and roof systems out of it should have their head examined

I have a serious problem with videos like this, yes they are great for pro,s but bedroom pros can pick up buz words and get jobs in the industry. Its the same for electrical systems in entertainment

Replace "this video" with "a mentor". What's the difference? Sure a beginner should be supervised when putting hands on truss, but a beginner's a beginner, whether they are learning the basics from a mentor/teacher or a video. (Yes I am responding to this 10 years later)

I am a former structural engineer with a 5 year BS degree in Architecture and some grad school. Love the comments. I could say the same thing about you. You riggers think you know everything. You probably don't really understand the principals of physics. You don't want competition. You were probably taught by people who don't understand many concepts of physics and structural design. I could learn what you know in a day other than knot tying. The purpose of jargon terms is to keep out new people or show off. I work in film now and the jargon is laughable. A product of insecurity. The other day I was trying to learn how to bend electrical conduit from YT vids. The first two basics in conduit bending vids I watched were taught by contractors with years of experience. What a joke. All wrong and I had no clue what the terms were. These guys knew the terms but did not understand things like doing a test bend with your bender and the exact conduit you are using to measure loss on tail and gain on stub. Then I spent 10 minutes watching one taught by a woman at a tech college. I was then able to bend 1" int. conduit into back to back 90s within 1/8" tolerance on the first try. Making a luggage rack for my new $50k Jeep and am perfectionist..
