I've watched a lot of videos about carrying when suited up, and this is by far the best. Thanks for sharing your experience! Your comments about shoes are something EVERYONE who wears suits should listen to- no matter how nice you look in that suit, you won't look good after wiping out on slippery tiles, going up or down a ramp, etc. Traction is a good thing to have, even if you aren't carrying a gun. I would also be remiss if I did not mention that you do look pretty sharp in that suit, Tommy. A few of the things I've picked up over the years, from the perspective of concealed carry (and just generally wearing suits and sports coats a fair bit of the time): - Make sure the jacket is comfortable and you can still move around. Some jackets are cut in a way that it can be difficult to use both rifles and handguns. This also applies to your shirts, because a bad fitting shirt is a nightmare to wear and try to move around in. - Dress shirts are often rather thin, and depending on your gun, holster, method of carry, and how much extra weight you're carrying around the waistband...you can end up with your gun poking into your side. Undershirts can really help alleviate this. A t-shirt or tank top can make a big difference. Polos can be thicker as well, so if you're in a less formal environment, they can work on their own as well. - Keeping items in the front pockets can be a good way to help keep the jacket from constantly blowing open if you're wearing it unbuttoned outside. -Clip on ties, when acceptable, can be easy to work with and don't become a liability in a harry situation. Normal ties can, however, be adjusted for a little extra ventilation when going to-and-from a location, and then tightened up when you need to look good. You can easily loosen it and then unbutton a few buttons and you'll be decently comfortable. Tie bars can also help keep your tie in one spot, so it doesn't get in the way if you end up having to bend over to work on something. They also look nice- a little addition to help dress up your suit, if you're so inclined. - Vests are great. Sweater vests are another warm layer, which is really nice if you end up in a situation outside wearing just a suit and it's the middle of winter. You can also sometimes get away with concealing your piece underneath a vest, depending on what you're carrying, how the vest is cut, and if you're carrying IWB. This is really nice, as it'll let you take your jacket off without having to show everyone your gun. -Don't be afraid to swing by your local thrift shop- you never know what you'll find. You'll still need it tailored if you want it to look its best, but as a starting point on a shoestring budget, it can work in a pinch. It's also a way to get some different jackets if you want to mix and match with something you already own, say for instance you want to start dressing up when you take your wife out on the town. - Try to make it work with your usual belt holsters before going out and spending the big bucks on a shoulder holster. Shoulder holsters do have their advantages, but I don't think they work nearly as well with a suit as the movies would make you think.

Yeah shoulder holsters are pretty niche IME. As for duty roles, I would only recommend shoulder holster if you are the driver for whichever VIP you are protecting, or you are doing something very specialized and niche. (For CCWs, shoulder holsters have their uses for motorcyclists and people confined to wheelchairs.) Generally speaking, anything along the front half of your waist is the quickest and most unimpeded draw. Building off your comments on wearing a sweater vest: if it is cold outside, and you are wearing a thick sweatervest with your suit, or any other dark and thick layers that covers your stomach, try carrying AIWB. It's the fastest and most comfortable draw. If anyone is concerned about AIWB ("yOu miGHt sHOot yoUR diCk ofF") I would implore them to look up Craig Douglas's mythbusting on AIWB. With a proper quality holster and a firearm from a reputable maker, AIWB is absolutely viable. And it is both unimpeded and ambidextrous, in case you are knocked supine or trying to get your charge out of a room while shielding them.

I went in between the two routes with a made to measure suit. Luckily I live near an indochino showroom so I went there kitted out and with my body armor on and had the suit measured to accommodate everything. I work in executive protection and need to look good everywhere from a board room to a ballroom so made to measure really was the best route for me

I ended up getting my suits tailored in Singapore with the Jackets a size bigger if a hip or shoulder holster. All the same fabric & these were great quality as I was fitted with the holsters on me. Yes it was not cheap but the 5 x trousers were & 4 coats were perfect with a slight pinstripe included in the fabric. I always carried 2 spare suits when I travelled with 3 pairs of trousers.

Perry suspenders! You can get a $10 pair of plain perry suspenders which help hold your belt up when you're carrying gear for hours. It's a real game changer. Also, a quality leather gun belt can help a lot in more formal settings. Leather goes with many things and doesn't stand out in the same way a 5.11 belt or something tacticool will. I personally like the High Noon leather gun belts, another vetted option is Milt Sparks/Erik Little. Competition shooting while wearing your suit is also great. I regularly shoot IDPA and most forms of IDPA let you carry how you normally would for concealment, but you can also shoot open division on a lot of other matches like USPSA or IPSC. Doing it concealed will help you practice not just your trigger press and grip, but also your draw stroke and clearing concealment garments. Also not just for a suit but for many roles: a habit I picked up from a friend in Houston PD is carrying ID in a breakable chain around your neck. You can tuck it under your shirt, be it CCW, Security, Police, whatever so you can keep both hands visible as you produce ID. You can show it to people standing behind you. And if someone tries to grab it in a fight, it breaks off. Or if paramedics need to hit you with a defib, they can easily rip it off. When I first got started in Security when I was like 23, this actually saved me from getting shot by local PD who had mistaken me for a gunman.

Author & tactics trainer Massad Ayoob mentioned a few years ago that a large PD 🇺🇸 did a in depth study & found a neck, badge around the neck was the best way to avoid problems, errors in being armed, CCW. Cops, deputies see the badge then avoid shooting, fighting. I wear a neck style nylon badge holder with my security license. Galls.com . I always suggest carry a badge, have your IDs, licenses. Be polite, professional. ✅

Great advice! I got into suited armed security a few months back and faced challenges in finding suits that fit as they're supposed to (most commonly a slimmer fit) and still effectively conceal even a smaller semi auto carried owb. A +2 jacket selection is generally effective.

I’ve worked EP for 15 years and have to wear a suit with a weapon daily. Video is on point with great info. If trailering is an issue, I personally don’t use the coat buttons. This is user preference, I like fewer obstacles when pushing my coat jacket out to draw my weapon. This swings your coat out of the way for a clean draw. Wear your holster a bit closer to the 2 or 4 o’clock position to prevent the bulge of your hips. Kore essentials, amongst many companies make great belts. I’ve had mine for several years and love it. Shirt stays help keep your shirt tight, socks up, keeping your shirt out of the way and you look clean. Utilize your ankle for an IFAK or whatever you wish. Slim wallet placed on a bottom pocket of coat to add weight to the jacket to prevent the coat from flying open as you walk. Clip-on tie to prevent having a fixed object around your neck. Vest also help to make you look slimmer with a bigger coat. Plus they have a few more pockets. So many ways to carry and look good while doing it. Outstanding video, great work.

here is a tip. the clip from that thrunite flash light will fit around a collapsible baton(also Fenix clips and a1s/wowtac clips). This allows carry of a baton in an inside jacket pocket or a front pants pocket. You can also conceal carry it inside the waist and the clip retains the baton when deployed to the belt. I also find that pepper gel in a jacket pocket is a freebie. I have to transition from overt to covert in a car regularly. The clip on the baton works fine with my safariland roto baton holster. so I leave the clip on full time.

I can definitely confirm that "even bulge on each side" trick. As someone who always carries concealed I have been using that principle since day one and I have yet to be spotted or even have someone ask me "what's under your shirt". And I am a 165 pound guy who carries a Glock 19 under a regular shirt or t-shirt without oversizing those items. In fact I used to be like 150 pounds when I started doing it. People like symmetry. People expect symmetry. As long as you show them what they expect to see, they have no reason to question it. All of my friends and colleagues just think I am an unarmed person with a pelvis that is slightly wider than it actually is. Most of these people have known me for years, they see me every day and they still have no clue. Ironically I've had people demand an explanation for "why do you have a knife in your pocket" while there was a Glock 19 mere inches away from it on the same side hip. Sometimes it's really funny and I have to try pretty hard to hold back any sarcastic comments that might tip them off. BTW have you tried euro security products textile cuffs? They work sort of like zip cuffs, but they use a nylon cord instead of solid plastic. I have no experience with any cuffs including these so I am not in any way vouching for them, I'm a civilian watching this from the perspective of someone who carries for personal protection so I don't need cuffs for anything, but it looks like they would be really neat for just throwing a bunch of them in a suit pocket. www.euro-security.info/en/textile-handcuffs.html

In my area, some companies and most issue the newer slim models of the Motorola radios for this purpose. If you are going to be using a radio in a suit a lot, it also might be worth getting one of those and learning how to set up frequencies for the jobs you're doing. They're better quality and are way slimmer for suit usage. Just an added thought.

Question if you're working Security in a suit do you have to tailor your suit for your firearm
@tmulhall890
@tmulhall890 4 жыл бұрын
You don't have to, but it is highly suggested to limit patterning of your weapon. Weapon choice also plays a huge factor as concealing a Walther PPS or Ruger TCP is a lot easier than a full sized Glock. At Tactically Suited we cut the suit to minimize patterning and use full canvassing in our bespoke (made for your measurements) suits which provides a layer between the outer material and the lining. The canvassing helps the suit last longer and greatly reduces patterning by displacing it. The only draw back to a full canvassed suit is its a little hotter, so a good thing in the winter, not so much in summer.

Outstanding vid. I've found that for shoes, if I'm working "suit n sig" I'll get a decent pair of sketcher dress shoes with No Slip soles a half size bigger and line it with a Dr Scholl's insole. Keeps my feet and knees happy just in case movement slows down or you end up covering Halls n Walls. Also you were spot on about the suit. It's ok to get one off the rack if you're starting out or tight on funds but the moment you get a couple of bucks saved, get at least 3 good suits (summer, winter, fall) that will keep with the seasons and budget in a trip to the tailor every year (think of it like a tune up for your suit) to proper fit as well as check any seams etc that may have come undone. I'm not LEO but when I work with them or the ABC's we all normally have a lapel pin. Depending on the function most times it's a certain symbol or flag that only our team has or if it's a local event we all have our company pin and the ULEO's will have one from their department. Keep vids like this coming!

For suits I throw my cuffs the bottom left jacket pocket (Tactically Suited suits are designed for this option) if I have to button the jacket or I wear this setup if I'm going unbuttoned warriorconcealment.com/shop?olsPage=products%2Fdouble-magazine-handcuff-pouch-combo-belt-loops. For jeans, Viktos makes a tactical jean with a pocket behind the back pocket that works well. They're pricey, but quality made.

@@tmulhall890 yeah, cuffs and flashlight go in the suit pockets cod me too, since they're both unlikely to be needed.

Finaly someone who is making suits like this. I don't know about you but I like to have just a slight amout of print because it's kind of a deterent for bad guys. Not the whole outline of the gun but if I have a slight bulge on my jacket most fuckeads will reconcider attacking you.

What about shoulder holsters?They’re generally not useful,but wouldn’t they be worth a look at in a setting where you would be wearing a jacket most of the time?

Shoulder holsters make one handed re-holstering difficult and are not so good to run in. I do however like the idea of using a shoulder holster for radios, but I don't have experience with that yet.

Thank you for making this video. I am in the hiring process for a bailiff position with my municipal court system that will require the wearing of a suit on a regular basis. I really like Safariland holsters from my time as a security officer, and it’s nice to see they offer concealable holsters with active retention. I will be carrying a Glock 19 with a Streamlight TLR-1 , one spare mag in a combo mag/cuff holder, dept issued Motorola radio, badge, and I’m trying to decide between one of the compact baton offerings from ASP vs a small can of OC for my less lethal option.

My major problem is 24” neck and have to have it tailored. Luckily have a professional dressmaker that works with several of us. Make sure you have a tailor take measurements. Trousers lined to the knee with nylon if you’re wearing a worsted suit. Comfortable footwear Is also a major issue, the magnetic Taichi insoles are comfortable once you get in the groove

Damn brother, that is quite the neck size. If you ever need dress shirts we make those too. We even have a tactical dress shirt made for running an ear bud and plunger PTT with wire holes built into the shirt for the best cable management.

When I did some suit and tie stuff, I had a cheap radio called a retevis rt-22. It's a cheap chinese radio, but it worked fairly well and it is very thin. About the size of those old nokia cell phones. I wouldn't recommend it as your main radio, but if you really gotta be low key at some gala or something, it's gold.

Man, I’ve always wanted an armed gig where I could dress in a suit or business type clothing. Police uniforms look good in their own way, but I own a ton of dress clothes and wouldn’t mind getting to wear them more often.

RyanMiller3039 A vast majority of LEOs & Security Guards don’t Carry competition guns like a competition orientation Glock 34. Most Security Guards & LEOs use stock handguns like a stock Glock 17/19. Also you’d want to carry a smaller pistol like S&W M&P Shield, S&W M&P 2.0 Subcompact or 1.0 Compact, Sig Sauer P365, Walther PPS M1/M2, Glock 26, Glock 43 or CZ P10S. You can pick a handgun you’re comfortable & proficient with. Just tailor the pistol to what you’re going to do on a daily basis.
