Hello Tony I did some research on the net .... I am French speaking (Belgian) but I will try to explain to you in English. Between 1936 and 1939 the region was affected by civil war. Fascist Italy's aviation was based in the Balearic Islands. In 1938, there have been several air attacks. In Benidorm, the republican army built 5 "bunkers" (machine gun nests): -In the corner of Loix, located in front of the Nadal hotel. It is the only one that is kept in fairly good condition [the place you filmed] · On Levante beach, in front of the current Cimbel hotel, which has now disappeared. · In the Plaça del Torrejò, of which some vestiges remain. The upper part has disappeared, leaving the lower part of the wall and the access staircase. · At Mal Pas Beach, disappeared. · On Paseo de Elche, in what was then the center of the promenade, about 70 meters from the current start of the park, from the old town. He has also completely disappeared. I hope these information will be helpful and my translation is understandable. Greetings Frank

Wow interesting vid Tony. I only subscribed to your channel Sunday night from a recommendation. I’ve been watching whenever I get a notification. I really look forward to watching because you seem to improve my mood with your positive attitude & not all doom & gloom. Stay positive & keep up the humour 👍🏻

They are obviously machine gun posts, but from when as Spain neutral in World War Two. Great find Tony would be nice to know more about them and what they were actually for.

Got feed back from the government, they were built for the Spanish civil war but were used in WW2 for surveillance, what ever that means. cheers T

Obviously I'm sure you are aware that Spain did not actively participate in WW2 although Franco did secretly help the Germans refuel U-boats and supply them with food oil and intelligence. Hitler helped Franco into power during the Spanish civil war and although Franco refused to join the Axis powers with Italy and Japan he did aid Germany. Gibraltar was a major British Naval and air base and Britain controlled the access to and from the Mediterranean from there so i guess that the Spanish were always going to be nervous that the British or Americans would want to get a foot hold onto the European continent through Spain. As it was they went through Italy and France .

Great vid, they look like “Pill Boxes”. These would house machine guns. I used to see them a lot when I was young. They would be placed at strategically importantly places, such as bridges road junctions, canal junction, important buildings and so on. They were defensive positions. The ones you shown would be able to cover a large part of the beach. To defend against commandos raids, paratroopers or spies being drop off on the beach etc.

Interesting video, liked & subscribed, if you do more gopro on sticks into small holes then you will definitely be competing for the No1 Benidorm youtuber slot. Although my expectations where somewhat slashed by the lack of uniform as advertised in the thumbnail, maybe that's where the thumbs downs came from.

I think they are Spanish Civil War relic's Tony, I think you could get a Decent size boat moored up there if I remember right to peacock island, so pretty deep water there, worth defending, laventi beech wasn't made all those years ago, got to be a valid reason for them to be there.... interesting! stay safe!🇪🇸🇬🇧.... Spanish don't like talking about Civil War, to painful!
