I remember unlocking TT as a kid and the dopamine rush was short-lived when I realized that 1. He is super OP to race as and 2. If you can already beat every race without him, what's the point in having him? Brought me back to Snowboard Kids and unlocking the ninja character. They're both games that teach you that the journey is the real reward.

A tip I learned recently which was a game changer is that tapping the accelerate gives you an increase on your top speed instead of holding it. It's tiring if used often but if you use time it nicely on straight paths you can shave some time off! I also recommend Drumstick for plane tracks and Pipsi for Hovercraft tracks.
