I think something you should’ve touched on is that despite having the proverbial goose that lays the golden egg in the Paris suburbs supplying the French national team with talent on talent, he plays boring football. France does not go out and dominate games and play their way, they’re reactionary and I think that’s why Deschamps isn’t rated as highly. Yes he’s terrific at managing egos, he can learn from his past failures, and knows when a plan isn’t working but he has yet to prove to the world what French football is and stands for. The other great national team’s coaches embodied their nations ethos and spirit and he simply doesn’t and I think that’s a big reason why he’s not more universally seen as an all time manager.

But Deschamps has his own pragmatism

Obviously a great manager but should have gone after the World Cup. He's got nothing more to offer, has lost many players' confidence and makes very questionable choices. Not to mention the awful performances and apalling games since at least 2021

I dont think he ever was a great manager. He just got lucky with a really strong generation that was hard to fail with. A pragmatic manager with great tools will always do well in the world cup. The level is always lower at national level management anyway.

@desfefe most french players are over rated. England are a much stronger team, with more talented players'. Still, they have not lifted a single piece of silverware under Southgate whereas Deschamps already proved his value at Monaco and Marseille

@@stephhuin7106 He never even was that good at either of those clubs. He was decent at Monaco but not really that good at all. And you know it is bs, France always had better players during that period. Dont lie now LOL
