Yes! That's always been such a great detail. I've also always thought it was interesting in Ford's dreamscape that what looms largest in the foreground is the old Stan o' War (i.e. his connection with Stan / memories of good times with Stan). While the most recent thing chronologically, the partly destroyed Portal, is further in the background. (Where it still manages to loom ominously!)

@@gryphonvert yes! I also love how his mind scape looks so simple compared to Stanley's, maybe because he is a very direct and rational men, he probably does not waste much time thinking about other stuff and it is also colorful, but in stans it is so full, there is too many things there it gets a bit overwhelming, it is also very gray and glitchy (and had some weird codes there instead of the names like), maybe because the guilt he feels or perhaps because he faked being his brother for so long it kinda messed his mind a bit? idk I find it very interesting how different they are. (also, stans seems way for confusing, he has doors everywhere without much order, well it seems that way, but when you see it is actually very organized, maybe a reflection that he is not as "stupid" as ppl think)

Stan’s swing set is broken because of what he did to Ford. He views himself guilty and unworthy of his brother’s trust, which is why the swing Stan sat on is broken. But Ford still trusts his brother even after everything that happened, which is why the swing set in his mind is undamaged

When the ancient Egyptians attempted to create a portal for Bill, it only worked for ten minutes (letting out a jackal-headed man from the Nightmare Realm). Bill was furious. He tormented them with nightmares, and they built giant stone tributes to Bill, hoping to make them stop. (The arms and top hats of these structures broke off over time.) Bill gave George Washington secrets that helped him defeat the British. But when George’s attempt at a steam-powered portal sank into a swamp, Bill gave Washington such bad nightmares that he ground his teeth into dust in his sleep and then had to get wooden ones. Washington put Bill on the one-dollar bill in order to appease him.

One thing I really love about this episode is it really drives home the difference between Dipper and Mabel. When it comes to leaps of faiths, Dipper will always think pessimistically and logically. Seen by him shooting Ford when he says "Trust me." Which gives him more emotional control in most cases, but makes it hard to trust and connect with people. While Mabel is more hopeful and emotional, which means she's very impulsive and emotional but is able to connect and trust people easier. And why she trusted Stan when he said "Trust me"

Or am I just being weird? "Kinda kinda hungry, but I could also not eat." - standard human stuff "I should really try out the president's key." - callback! A "fun" fact about Ford and Bill's pact that was revealed after the show was that the specifics of their deal was that Bill would have free control over Ford's body whenever he sleeps. That's part of why he was so on edge when Stan came to visit. Once he went through the portal he was cut off from Bill so he didn't gave to worry and during those 30 years he installed the metal plate in case he ever found his way back. Some particularly horrifying moments of the time before he fell through the portal were him waking up to find that Bill wrote taunting messages in his journals for him to find, or caused his body physical harm. He woke up once with one of his eyes bleeding, cuz y'know. Fun show for kids and all that

Alex has also stated that the blue eye right after Ford's dream isn't necessarily Ford's eye (i believe he replied to someones tweet who asked if Fords eyes were blue or brown), which led to fans speculating it might've been Fiddleford's
@gryphonvert
@gryphonvert Жыл бұрын
I actually had cause to look up that tweet earlier today. What he says is: "No one ever said that was Ford's eye." I think it's pretty certain that it's Fiddleford's eye, for a couple of reasons. First, it serves as a call-back to when we saw Fiddleford after getting his head stuck in the Portal, in ATOTS. When we first see him on the ground, his pupils are HUGE. Then he sits up and they get smaller. Second, glimpsing it at that point, as Ford is waking up, kind of suggests that it's still part of his dream / subconscious thoughts. Later in the episode, he will refer to Fiddleford's accident, when explaining things to Dipper (we see that shortened version, "until my assistant got a glimpse of Bill's true plans"). But we also see that, when Ford's thoughts are up on the screen, one of them is "I'M SORRY FIDDLEFORD." And it's clear that that incident is what caused Ford to realize Bill had betrayed him. So, that glimpse of the blue eye, with the huge pupil quickly contracting, is symbolic to Ford -- of his friend's accident, of the moment he found out about Bill's betrayal, and of his greatest regrets. Including that glimpse of it ties in with the way Ford will finally confess that regret to Dipper later in the ep.

@@roo1014 I think it makes a lot of sense. Framing is important. The show consistently rewards Mabel for being selfish, punishes others for not feeding into her selfishness, and even refuses to acknowledge that she is being selfish in the first place. @RasmusVJS I see where certain people come from with Mabel, I don't hate her personally (far from it) but yeah she is often selfish and foolish. Something the show could've done better in hindsight As for Catra, I know she has trauma and all - but that can only justify so much for so long. Not saying Catra's complexities as a character aren't a piece of why Mosco likes her so much ... but let's call a spade a spade - Mosco loves her because she gives off fruity vibes Likewise, with what you said about Mabel, *She-Ra* also loves to reward Catra, she gains more power with each season and is given easy forgiveness and the girl who she mistreated to hell and back. Watching reactions to the show, rewatching moments that I never thought hard about before, it's so bizarre that Ford was told by Mabel and Dipper that they both know, have fought with, and have defeated Bill and he still thinks that only Dipper should be able to know about the rift. He's trying to protect the others, but deciding for them, similarly to how for example, Mabel in Into the Bunker tried to help Dipper by making decisions for him.

This episode's end credits code is *"A simple man with eager ears may trust the whispers that he hears,"* which is unusual, since it has the rhyming cadence and vague foreshadowing that is usually the hallmark of the Journal page codes. So, the writers got a lot of flak for how they depicted Mabel in season 1. The puppet opera episode was one side of their response. This episode was the other. In case it wasn't obvious, the unicorn was a stand-in for the audience calling Mabel a bad person. On one hand, i appreciate the message that girls shouldn't be held to impossible standards. On the other hand, the unicorn feels a bit like a strawman. More people were annoyed with the writers forcing Dipper to sacrifice for every whim of Mabel's, than were saying she couldn't have flaws. It doesn't help that everyone else in the episode goes all in asserting that Mabel is Best Girl and beyond reproach. I personally dont think it's a big deal, but it did feel manipulative. Of course, any good will i might have about Mabel is about to be thrown out the window as we approach the ending.

Boy, I can't wait to see your reaction to the unicorn hair coming in clutch when they turn the whole mystery shack into a massive anime mech (thanks to the help of the technologically superior Time Paradox Avoidance Enforcement Squadron, and the anime-themed Giffany, who actually survived being destroyed by Soos and was just preoccupied dating Rumble McSkirmish in the arcade this whole time) to fight Bill in the final battle.

Just a heads up that next episode is a filler that was supposed to come out earlier during the season. But it's worth it and it's a fun break before all hell break loose during the finale.

This is such a good episode. It has everything: Forest drug deal with a double-cross, Dipper's inner thoughts (WendyWendyWendyWendy), Mabel punching a unicorn. [chef's kiss]

more spoiler-free stuff Dipper's thoughts: 1. That red bathing suit, man! 2. I should really try out the president's key sometime. (yeah, he should) 3. I could probably rob a bank. (?) 4. I miss tyronne. (that's actually really sad :( 5. gosh, I hope no one was looking! 6. Maybe if I cross my legs no one will notice. (did a boner joke seriously make it past Disney?!) A few of Ford's thoughts: 1. I'm sorry Fiddleford 2. I miss dimension 52 I forget the rest, but they're there. Also The girls came back covered in unicorn... tears... yes... those are tears... and not blood. idk but my headcanon is that they massacred them.

Another of Ford's thoughts is CRAMPELTER. That was the name of the older kid who bullied Ford and Stan when they were little. It's a good comment on the way that being bullied in childhood can stay with someone as an adult (especially if they don't get a chance to work out that trauma in therapy). I also think that the reason Crampelter is so on adult-Ford's mind is that he sees a connection between the childhood bully, and Bill Cipher -- at least, in the way that Ford was the victim of both.

Trust is such a big theme in this show. Ford's attitude that he passed down to Dipper is "trust no one," and he found that when he needed help, no one trusted HIM. I know you (and a lot of people) dislike Mabel, but i think her and Dipper's love and trust are a strength.
@dracoangelrojo
@dracoangelrojo Жыл бұрын
"Attitude"? Ford's trust issues aren't an attitude, it's the result of trauma. And trust has to go both ways, that's the problem between Dipper and Mabel: Dipper is always expected to trust Mabel blindly regardless of her breaking Dipper's trust for her own convenience again and again, and if he doesn't, he is the bad guy. That's the issue. Trust has to come and go both ways, not just one.

As a sufferer of Agoraphobia. I understand your anxiety and panic. I hope you get the help you need. I will tell people to stop with the negative waves. "Why don't you knock it off with them Negative Waves! Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here. Why can't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change" - Oddball (Kelly's Heroes 1970). If you have the time and curosity. There is the source. Hope you getter better. Live Long and Prosper.

As much as I get why people dislike mable, I just… genuinely adore her character and how we can have a main character that doesn’t have this big growth of character and still make sense. She’s… well she’s a kid who doesn’t wanna grow up. Kids are selfish often and I relate to her a LOT. I was such a selfish kid when I was her age fr, hell sometimes I still am. We’re all a little selfish at times… I think we often just say ‘oh she’s a cartoon character’ when… it never feels like that for me, often getting so connected and on the same wave length as the characters.
