That's one of the qualities that makes me love Hole's 'Northern Star' so much. Courtney Love's vocals are rough and ragged as always (although she holds back on the scream-singing until the climax), playing against the increasingly military-march-like drumbeat and orchestral strings. It's a really striking and dramatic contrast and it helped me to appreciate her singing voice.

There were some great post-grunge bands that came out of the 90s, and Bush was at the top of that list. Gavin Rossdale's voice was truly something to behold (especially LIVE). You've done this and "Comedown". Some of their other bangers include "Swallowed", "The Chemicals Between Us", "Little Things", and maybe their best song, "Machinehead". Some other bands in this lane that I think you would love are Seven Mary Three ("Cumbersome"), 3 Doors Down ("Kryptonite"), Nickelback ("How You Remind Me"), Creed ("Higher"), Breaking Benjamin ("So Cold"), Seether ("Fine Again"), Fuel ("Hemorrhage (In My Hands)") and Silverchair ("Tomorrow"). More than any of these bands, though, I would recommend the band called Live (pronounce like in "alive"). Their songs "Selling the Drama", "Pain Lies By the Riverside", "Lightning Crashes", and "Lakini's Juice" are some of the best songs of that decade. Anyone agree?

There was a short-lived tv show called...oh crap now I can't remember, something about luck. A kid who is the sole survivor of a plane crash, grows up to have horrible luck that always seems to be just good enough to keep him going, helping people out cause he believes it's his mission. God this song takes me back to a moment in time, being 18, living with my cousin in our first apartment. He was sitting on his guitar Amp in the hall, strumming this song while I was in the kitchen and we just sat there and sang it together. Gavin (lead singer) wrote "Glycerine" about his relationship with his girlfriend at the time. Glycerine is a chemical used in perfumes and medicines and also to preserve food. The title comes from the explosive applications of glycerine to stabilize nitro. He said the song was about how love was like a bomb. Imagine that thought process!

Your girl Amber is right!!!! It is like these guys grew up listening to Pink Floyd...Black Sabbath...Deep Purple.....and Led Zeppelin.....and decided to poetically express the primal dark side of the human experiences as their predecessors did. That is "Grunge!!!" which was labeled by music critics. To them it just hardcore Rock n' Roll....and they all hard authentic great vocals with great drumming and guitar players!!!! Excellent reaction.

Gavin is only a year and a half older than I am. We are GenX, and the early GenX like me that went to high school basically in or around ‘81-‘85 WERE listening over half the time to Led Zep, Pink Floyd and the like. Yeah we had sone great 80’s music to listen to, but classic rockers from the late 60’s to late 70’s got a great deal of our listening time. It shaped what we listened to as we got older. For those who were musically gifted in our generation it shaped what they produced. That’s right GenX gave the world Grunge, post-grunge and much of the good 90’s music based on what they listened to as kids.

I remember when this song first came out and there was just nothing like it. Did you notice there was no percussion? The rhythm guitar does all the timekeeping. It's still amazing to listen to even after all these years. If you like this blend of rock and strings, you may want to check out some Apocalyptica. They are a Finnish band of cellists who play metal. Some people call it symphonic metal. They had an album, Worlds Collide, about a decade ago that was all the rage. Different singers from popular bands collaborated with them. "I'm Not Jesus" with Corey Taylor of Slipknot, "Helden" with Till Lindemann of Rammestein, and "I Don't Care" with Adam Gontier of 3 Days Grace, were my favorites. Helden is in German, but may be a familiar tune if you've heard much David Bowie.

"Glycerine" was Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale's love letter to his then-gf (not Gwen Stefani 😂)back in 1993... The track was all Rossdale on guitar, accompanied by a cello... which was sonically perfect w/ the lyrics. It was also sonically so different cos there were no drums or bass. It became a huge hit back in 1995.

i'd add blue cheer's 1967 song, "summertime blues." cowritten by rockabilly icon eddie cochran and his manager jerry capeheart, it barely charted in 1958 on the BH100, topping out at number 8 and then swiftly fading into obscurity. san francisco's blue cheer got hold of it in 1967 and proceeded to kick out ALL the jams. leigh stephens was a BEAST on electric guitar. the band was an explosive answer to a question that nobody knew had been asked, and it's still so strong that people new to the genre assume that they're contemporary. and years after this song and that band burst onto the scene, they have garnered so much prestige and so much respect that, today, they are regarded by music historians and People Who Know Things as the original metal band, a prototype for the ramones and ... i'll stop now, lol. i've broken my exuberant-verbosity meter. oh! also, i'd add several of the songs by the spencer davis group when stevey winwood was singing with them. "i'm a man," "gimme some loving," that kind of stuff. going now. really. i'm sorry for all the words.

Had the pleasure of seeing Bush live three times. They were my favorite band of the era along with Our Lady Peace. Our Lady Peace had a truly unique sound and you should absolutely check them out, their song Clumsy is so cool and just plain different.

I remember watching MTV Spring Break back in the day and it started raining during their performance. Despite the producers telling Gavin he was probably going to be electrocuted onstage, he didn’t give a fuck and just kept playing. One of the most incredible musical performances I’ve ever seen.

I fell in love with this song, after I lost a love of my life after 2 years. I would go for a drive the city, late at night when everyone would be asleep. The streets would be empty, green lights from one end of the city to the other. Smoking a bowl, listening to glicorine, on cool summer nights, music blaring, feeling high and free. This song takes me back to my best moments of the late 90's.

Although many still consider Bush a grunge band they were actually more associated with post- grunge, and alternative rock. They were actually one of the first bands to be labeled as post Grunge.

When I was in college, Bush, No Doubt, and Goo Goo Dolls were touring together. Such an awesome concert! Gavin Rossdale was not as "lively" a performer as Johnny Rzeznik and Gwen Stefani. He was much more stoic on stage, but his voice was so incredible, it didn't matter.

I missed a lot of this decade's rock music because I switched back over to the country scene with the huge number of female artists that were really coming into their own and blowing up the airwaves. Such a GREAT decade for the women in country music! Grunge is actually quite new to me.

Bush is one of my all time favorite bands of the 90s, grew up listening to them. In late 2011 I was getting ready to move abroad. One night I was leaving downtown Nashville to head home when I stopped at a venue to use the restroom. On the door was posted an ad for Bush coming to concert soon, but it would've been after I had flown out of the country. I prayed (not literally) for my tripped to get delayed. The next day I received a message that it had to be delayed. I went to the show and it was one of the most awesome concerts in my life.
