CRASHING TEXTILES TECHNIQUE | Fabric Manipulation Technique Using Solufleece | Didsbury Art Studio
I thought it was about time I shared with you an exciting textiles technique that provides you with texture quickly and easily...win win! I've tried to include a range of different fabrics to show different results. You'll need some bondaweb and solufleece for this one.
Thanks for watching and let me know which one works best...
What do you work as?
After doing my Textiles degree I did my PGCE teacher training at Goldsmiths, University of London to become an Art and Design Secondary School Teacher. Currently, I work in a hospital teaching art part-time to mainly 16 -18 year olds. In addition, I teach art in my studio on Saturdays and I give textile workshops to schools. I set up this channel in April 2020 after being furloughed during lockdown but soon realised I really enjoyed designing, creating projects, filming and editing my videos....so if you'd like to support me please subscribe! I would love to spend more time making extra videos every week 😍

Hello Sally, I just got back into art after many years, and I love this crashing technique. I will definitely be binge watching all your video's, amazing work! I love that you aren't afraid to tackle any project, and you find the best techniques. Can you let me know if I can use other products since I'm not familiar with them all? I can't find solufleece, could it be in another name, or do you know what would be comparable? I so appreciate your tutorials!

Hi 👋 the solufleece is a water-soluble stabilizer and I know Amazon sell this. You may find my textile techniques playlist useful for some other ideas. Thanks so much for watching. Sally🙂

Hi Emma not sure is the answer! the bondaweb glues the solufleece to your material....

Hi there Excellent thank you. You can trim off the threads but I wouldn't pull out the threads! I'm sure you could try making flower and leaf shapes yes. To be honest I have not tried to wash this crashed fabric...give it a go and let me know!!💕thanks for watching and enjoy the rest of the playlist!

HI! In the meantime, thanks for the video! very interesting I wanted to ask an ignorant question on the subject: to obtain this rounded effect I necessarily have to have solufleece and bondaweb ?no for example, if I wanted to do this manipulation with fabric, isn't just the piece of cotton fabric sample enough right?
@didsburyartstudio

Hi there solufleece and bondaweb needed to shrink and ripple the fabric👍🏻

Hi everyone hope you are all well...Crashing is a textile technique which is fun and quick! we use bondaweb and solufleece (which is a watersoluble stabiliser if you weren't aware) and the steam of an iron crushes up the fabric so that it shrinks... Remember to like if you enjoyed watching! thank you as always Sally xx

Hi there thanks for watching. I'd say not really as the bondaweb heats up it performs like a layer of glue.
