Die Geschichte einer Lübecker Kaufmannsfamilie zwischen 1835 und 1877.
Bei der Version von Franz Peter Wirth (1979) handelt es sich um die dritte Verfilmung des Romans von Thomas Mann. Beeindruckend aufwendig, sehr authentisch und mit großer Besetzung verfilmte Serie. Es spielen Martin Benrath, Ruth Leuwerik, Carl Raddatz, Volkert Kraeft, Noelle Châtelet, Carl Lange, Heinz Baumann, Günter Strack, Rolf Boysen, Klaus Schwarzkopf, Michael Degen, Marion Kracht und viel andere.

Die beste Verfilmung dieses Romans ever. Die 11 Romankapitel in 11 Folgen mit tollen Schauspielern authentisch umgesetzt. Vor allem von Volkert Kraeft eine Top-Leistung. Volkert Kraeft IST Thomas Buddenbrook, und es wird nach ihm wohl kaum einen besseren Darsteller dieses Charakters geben.

I have read this book in Russian. Thomas Mann is one of my favourite writers. You, Germans, should be very proud of your great culture. I felt so sorry about tragic fate of this great family, especially about Thomas and Antonia Buddenbrooks, even cried over some moments. Such a tragic fall of once great family.

Nowadays there is no reason to be proud of our so called "great German culture". I know what I am saying, I am German. This country made itself to the idiot not only of Europe but also the world and more to the cash cow of the world. Thomas Mann would turn around in his grave if he could see this. I lost my fortune and my home, because of the stupid mistakes of this damn German government. The glory of the culture as my fortune, it all faded away...like in the Buddenbrooks. I wish everything in Europe and in Germany could be again as it was before 1918. ...But you are right, it´s a great book and it was a great series.

@@frankhartebrodt1238 I disagree. I am a Dissident Leftie and I am not proud of the nation itself or the majority of it's people. But I am lucky I was born here, this country gave me access to good schooling (well I am older...), cared at least about my health and so far I never starved and was homeless. I also don't believe in the phantom of "Great German Culture", but I have a deep respect for all the authors, inventors, clever scientists and engineers, artists and philosophers who all tried to make this life better and more beautiful. Thomas Mann was one of them, denying their accomplishments because of all the bad things so many Germans did in history is not only betraying them, it's also empowering the evil side of German culture. I highly recommend to read some poems (I know, out of fashion) of Heym, he even died in beauty, trying to save his friend while skating ice.

@@moronsmorons8913 That´s what I´was saying...the great authors, inventors and so on -that was all in the 19th century, before 1918. Germany had double the size of now and 60 million inhabitants, 20 million less of nowadays. All what we have now is refugees, "Rettungspakete", "democracy", "social welfare" but just for unqualified foreigners, not for citizens. And incapable politicians. Politicians who doesn´t deserve to call by this term.

Germans can't be proud of anything German. The old are in post-war shame and the young's education on and about Germany starts in 1933.

Diese Serie war eine feste Größe in meiner Kindheit, ich habe sie geliebt! Erst viel später habe ich den Roman gelesen und alle Figuren ziemlich genau wieder gefunden. Eine selten authentische Verfilmung eines literarischen Stoffes, finde ich. Gibt's die Serie noch irgendwo zu sehen?

Eine unglaublich langweilige Nachmittagsserie damals, als es nur 3 öR Sender gab. Hat mir bis heute jede Lust auf den Roman verleidet.

*verlitten... Schade, ist ein sehr gelungenes Buch. Lohnt sich halt so gut wie nie zuerst die filmische Adaption zu sehen

@@schwarzteelakritze321 Ich wünschte, es würde nur 3 ÖRSender geben... 8 Milliarden für den Müll, den sich nur noch Rentner und Debile ansehen, die kann man sinnvoller in Schulen und Unis investieren. Ich habe seit 87 keinen Fernseher, mittlerweile ist auch das Radio völlig unerträglich. Ich stehe politisch links, aber manipulative Berichterstattung von privilegierten Schwätzern, die links blinken, aber rechts fahren, braucht wirklich keine Sau.

Wenn man etwas schlichteren Gemüts ist, guter Literatur keinen größeren Wert beimisst und auch Geschichtlichem nichts abgewinnen kann, dann kann so etwas schon geschehen. Schade eigentlich, aber wahrscheinlich nicht für Sie.

Man sieht dem Ganzen leider die eher billig gemachte Fernsehverfilmung an, zudem wirkt das Schauspiel arg hölzern. Schade - wenn die BBC den Stoff verfilmt hätte (was natürlich nie passieren wird), wäre vermutlich etwas deutlich Besseres dabei herausgekommen; die haben einfach ein Händchen für historische Stoffe. Die 1959er-Verfilmung ist noch halbwegs authentisch, die Verfilmung von 2008 hingegen unterirdisch.

Also über diese Kommentar kann man nur fassungslos sein! Dieser Mehrteiler ist mit Abstand eine der besten Literaturverfilmungen, die es jemals gab, teuer und aufwendig an Orginalschaupätzen gedreht, hochkarätig besetzt und mehrfach international ausgezeichnet. Franz Peter Wirth war einer der besten Regisseure seiner Zeit und niemand ist der Welt von Thomas Mann so nah gekommen wie er - sorry, aber Du hast ganz offensichtlich überhaupt keinen Zugang zu Literatur und überhaupt nicht begriffen, welches Juwel diese Verfilmung ist
