Well I'm not expert either, but as someone with a bit of experience on a few different guitars, I can say that harmonics are affected by a lot of factors. These include but are not limited to: -string material (nylon vs steel vs alloy/other) -electric vs acoustic guitar -humidity in the air/in or on the string and guitar -using a pick/ not using a pick -quality of the guitar itself (a higher quaity guitar will, generally, tend to produce a higher quality of harmonic) Now you might also not be playing harmonics quite right either. Harmonics are played with both hands. A finger from your left hand rests above a harmonic position on the fretboard, lightly touching a string. You play the string with your right hand, and remove your left hand in the same instant. Make sure to pluck the string with you right hand, 3-5 inches from the bridge, and pretty far away from where you are touching the string with your left hand. Personally, I like to use my right thumb to play harmonics, as opposed to a pick or one of my other fingers, though it's probably not a big deal. Lastly, make sure that the finger that you're using to sound the harmonic on your left hand lightly touches the string above but not touching the fret you intend to play - the string shouldn't touch the fret or the fretboard, and in fact, should barely move while you rest your finger on the string. When you pluck the string with your right hand, immediately release your left hand finger from the string. Hope that helps!
