during the entirety of the video i had the music fade into the background and the voice of david attenorough take the lead on this. "sometimes the Buam will collectively start a mating-dance to impress an audience. the brush-like feathers on their hats are an additional feature to add visual movement to the rhytmic, yet mechanical dance. in between the dances, the Buam will present their skills in exemplary wood cutting, cooking or competition in strength."

@@flonkplonk1649 it's part of the "Germanic" culture i mean? :') in broad terms
@kommdegaya753 Жыл бұрын
@@Pax_Luca You will only find these sort of things in the bavarian alps and in austrian alps tho (maybe in the german parts of switzerland and southern parts of swabia also). Austro-Bavarian culture is drastically different than middle and upper german culture. It's way closer tied to the alps than to germanic cultue as a whole.
@Pax_Luca Жыл бұрын
@@kommdegaya753 Oh, i thought you could call it that since it's "technically" in Germany, but i see! I'll be making the distinction in the future 😅 I still need to see it before i hit the coffin tho 😍
@kommdegaya753 Жыл бұрын
@@Pax_Luca Yeah no bad blood, you can def call it germanic since baiuvarii the tribe that became the modern austrians and southern bavarians are germanic. But like people from england which are to a great percentage offspring of angelo-saxons (germanic) wouldn't really like to be called german same goes for people from the netherlands who are offspring of the frisii germanic tribe. These sorts of Schuablattler dance, music and clothing(lederhosen, dirndl) is mainly found in alpine austria and southern parts of bavaria. The northern bavarians aren't really culturly close to these sorts of things either. Germans as a whole don't really practice this culture at all. It may seem like it since nazi germany used many of these traditions all across germany but that is manly because hitler was austrian(border to southern bavaria) and saw it kind of the best kept ancient german tradition and wanted to revive the whole ancient germanic traditions in all of germany. I would recommend, if you want to experience something like this, to come either at around this time(late nov - early dec) to austria to see the whole crampus tradition and the celebrations around that. Or at the start of may when we celebrate the spring by placing huge barkless trees in every town center where people climb up to either get a limo(for the children) or a beer(for the people 16+) there are many early may celebrations(music, drinking,...) since 1st may back in old times was seen as the real start of the new year. To best experience something like this tirol is the place to visit since they are still very traditional. Viennese for example also don't really have a whole lot to do with the whole lederhosen, jodler culture, although they are austrian. If you have any questions regarding some things of this culture feel free to ask i will gladly answer them. Otherwise, have a wonderful day. Servus

As a Pakistani who grew up in Bavaria, I can’t help but feel a wave of goosebumps watching this. During my youth in Bavaria, I often viewed traditional Bavarian culture with a sense of disdain, perhaps taking it for granted. However, it was only after moving away that I came to truly appreciate its richness and depth. Bavarian culture reflects timeless virtues-uprightness, honesty, diligence, and discipline-that are not just regional but quintessentially German. Today, as a proud German citizen, I am deeply moved by this heritage and all that it represents.
