Their is a monument i Sthlm remembering the Swedish volunteers every 1 may in Sthlm starts by this monument singing anti-fascist song and speeches. It's called "La Mano". There is also a Swedish version of this song: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o5WYfGpqfbmDbNU

@@Tsupapimunyayu because international capitalism and fascism supported the other side. the heroes of the spanish republic still held on for 3 years with all the odds against them. And 6 years later, Hitler and Mussolini would be dethroned. And while it took longer than it should have, the franco regime eventually died too.

@@crumb167 the capitalist nations were actually supporting the "republicans". Only the two nascent fascist powers supported the military rebellion.
@crumb1674 жыл бұрын
@@Tsupapimunyayu read some history. through their non intervention policy France and Britain cut desperately needed supplies from the republic, while turning a completely blind eye to obvious German and Italian involvement. even when the soviets brought substantial evidence to the non intervention council France and Britain still blocked all exports through their borders (although there were some exceptions, like France letting a rough hundred of disassembled soviet aircraft across the border - but this accomplished little as the crates were left in Catalonian fields during the chaotic retreat from the Ebro). The United States among others could have helped the Republic but chose not to, banning American involvement on either side, all the while knowing completely that Rieber's Texaco was supplying Franco with his entire oil supply that was vital to the nationalist victory. The complex politics of the Spanish republic may make it confusing who supported them but Britain was more concerned with halting the expansion of communism in Europe than fascism, as some in the foreign office even welcomed and admired Franco as a force for god in Iberia. The western democracies sometimes gave moral support and on a few occasions allowed small-scale support to go through. It is undebatable that the Democratic powers in Europe were indifferent or even hostile to the Republic's cause.
@Tsupapimunyayu4 жыл бұрын
@@crumb167 By "supplying" you mean that the nationalist purchased oil from said company. Thats right, they purchased. As for the French in particular, although material aid was indeed not given, they allowed all those volunteers to slip through. And for the record, the Italian/German assistance was not that different in quantity to what the soviets were sending. Granted, the soviets were following their own grand designs, it was not love for the republic that drove them. And well western diplomats were right to fear communism more than fascism.

Those who were captured by Franco's troops were extradited to Germany. Ernst Busch was actually one of them. He survived prisons and concentration camps. Many others weren't that lucky. The German combatants who managed to escape to France after the fascists took Spain only had another spare year before France surrendered to Germany in 1940 until they suffered the same fate.
