Thx for the review. I was just about to order the Hunter Monaco and the NYPD both, but now I'm just ordering one. The bottom is a huge disappointment and some other details aren't as nailed as I thought. Honestly I was expecting an opening hood, trunk, all 4 doors just like on my ERTL '74 Monaco. Overall bummer! But it's my favorite car ever.

A Brony and a car collector? Man after my own heart! And I have a 1/24scale of this car. My "Metro PD" door badge is also slanted. The Terminator franchise did not get the rights to reproduce LAPD markings till Terminator II. I imagine the slanting of the sudo-city seal was to avoid copyrights. My Arlington TX PD have the most beautiful blue and white squad cars and they protect their brand very carefully. The Arlington PD sued a guy who made skins for police cars in GTA 4.

I really appreciate the detailed review. As I mentioned on the NYPD car video, my gripes are similar to yours. All things considered, we have no other 1/18 options so these will fit the bill. I wish they did a better job on the wheels. They need to be deeper.

Im probably going to eventually get the terminator monaco but im goimg to strip the decals off, and put actual lapd decals on. And im gonna see if anyone knows how to make the old school canister lights for the top. Lapd never used aeordynamic lightbars on the furys. Which are basically monacos

I'm glad the gun is removable. The gun did not come back in time with the T-800. I would have rather had a cheap fig of Arnold with his Colt Long Slide or M-16. But I guess they couldn't get the licensing for that.
@RangerBravo20147 ай бұрын
Not sure. Now, you could use a 1/24 M16 from the MPC '78 Monaco kit. And with resin casting and 3D printing, someone may actually have a figure of Arnold like that. Could be worth checking out. And the licensing thing is funny. They did a lot of vehicles from The Walking Dead but have yet to do the Chevy Suburban used in it.

Dude, you wana talk about misprinted trim? I got a 1/24 scale of this car that had NO TRIM on the front passenger side fender. I modded it into a Gotham PD from the original Keaton Batman 89 film.

Didn't your car come with an aerial to go on the hood? It's shown on the box. Mine did, although it wobbles terribly when you attach it. I might just get a tiny piece of blu tack to keep it straight. I won't glue it permanently just in case I want to put the car back in it's box one day.
@RangerBravo20145 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it came with it. And like yours, it wobbles a lot. I never put it on because I didn't want it to fall out and lose it, and because it would sort of look a little odd with it considering no other cars I have actually have antennas anywhere. That could work. And I don't blame ya for not wanting to glue it permanently. I did glue the lightbar on mine, but that's because I repositioned it a bit more forward. But it would easily come off if I needed it to. I used Testors model car cement for that.

@@RangerBravo2014 thanks for that. Overall I'm pretty pleased with my purchase. Certainly not the best model I ever bought, but it's Ok. Although I've been trying to track down a model of the sinister car used in the movie, 'The Car' with James Brolin. I know they only released a few diecast models of it, but I think I missed out. I'm based in Australia and I don't think any came here.

I just paid $175 American for a 1989 LAPD Caprice in 1:18. Ill be doing a review video in the next few weeks. He used this lightbar...
@johnandersonjjr7 ай бұрын
It’s been a while since I’ve seen the movie but I thought it had the pre 77 single head lights (maybe not).I thought the biggest flaw with the body side moulding was that it was too wide.If it was an LAPD car I’m quite sure they did not use the 440 but an 360 (4bbl but no dual exhaust).Even the Hp 400 used single(both on right side of the car).There’s a few other things I noticed but I don’t want to be too nit picky.
@RangerBravo20147 ай бұрын
I haven't seen the movie in a long time either, but I do know the Monaco and Fury, heh. The LAPD did use the '75/'76 Furys, which did have the single headlights. Not sure if they ever, officially, used a Monaco or a stacked headlight Fury. T.J. Hooker was another show that used the Monaco which was also supposed to be LAPD. Yeah, I don't believe the LAPD used 440s in their cars. In fact, I think some may have even been 318s. The CHP did use the 440 in their Monacos, but I don't know what the LASD used in their cars. I know they used the '73 Matador, which probably had he 401. Funny thing is the LAPD did use the Matafor too, and in Adam 12, they had the 401 fender badging. Then by the late 70s, the LAPD used smaller engines. Probably because of the fuel crises. Yeah, the side molding is a bit thick. The body is also narrower at the rear axle than at the front, and the real car was wider at the rear axle. The tires also have too sharp an edge to me. Not the rounded, what I call doughnut tires that 70's vehicles had. The shape of the rear window at the top is too flat and from the front, the fenders at the front stick out a little bit too much. I actually compared the look of this 1/18 to the MPC 1/24 model kit and the kit has more realistic shape and features. So I stored the 1/18 and I'm hoping to build some 1/24 kits of the Monaco this spring and summer. A plain jane black, a CHP, an LAPD, and a NYPD. THat's what I want to do, anyway, heh.

@@RangerBravo2014 don’t forget the (side) bumper filler panels were all painted silver/gray on Dodge/Plymouth police package/fleet cars (I don’t recall if the movie car still had them or were painted over/over the years before filming)

It's a cool car, why do you have to nit pick every detail
@RangerBravo20146 жыл бұрын
Because I'm detail specific. And when you pay $70 for something, people should get their money's worth. I'm not someone that will just take something and say close enough and be fine with it. When a company makes a diecast or resin replica of a car, it should look like the real thing but scaled down. I don't settle for just anything. I'm picky because I want realism and detail, as do others that care about it and not those that are willing to hand that kind of money out the window for a plain rock.

The box doesn't have a window for MIB display?
@RangerBravo2014 Жыл бұрын
Nope. It doesn't. It's a standard cardboard box with the car's image on the side. It came in styrofoam and not attached to a base. That's the thing about Greenlight's 1/18 vehicles. The majority of them don't come so you can leave them displayed in their boxes. The Supernatural Impala was the same way, as was the NYPD 1975 Fury and the CHP 1976 Coronet. Their 1/43 and 1/24 have clear sided boxes for display, but most of their 1/18 do not. Only a few do, and that's only in the last few years.

What really pi$$ed me off is when I paid $75 for Greenlight's TX DPS Caprice cruiser. NO police equipment inside. Just black and white paint scheme and the Texas badge on the doors. Very disappointing.
@RangerBravo20147 ай бұрын
Ha! That's GL for you. Heck, I remember years ago before they did their 1/18 Supernatural '67 Impala. On a diecast forum, fans were sharing tons of info on the car; pictures, diagrams. And GL ignored it and cranked the car out. I have it. Rear tires are the same size as the front. No opening features. The front bumper and grille popped out when I got it out of the foam. And the rear bumper guards didn't even have the rubber. I had t paint that on myself. Rear end sat way too low. So I had to lift it. Looks better now, but boy did they sort of skew it. I also bought three of the 1/64 Gone in 60 Seconds '73 AMC Matadors of the LASD. Two of the three cars had a pink mark on the roof. I called it them kisses of approval. The lightbars were Yankee Dietz lightbars, which, from my research, didn't come around until 1976. The original Gone in 60 Seconds released in 1974. The actual LASD Matador used the Federal Twinsonic. So I removed the lightbar and swapped on a Twinsonic I had laying around. I also swapped the silly tires and wheels they had for more accurate dog dish hubs.

@@RangerBravo2014 Oh I forgot to add, they didn't even paint "STATE TROOPER" on the trunk lid of my TX cruiser. As a Texan myself, this really pi$$es me off to no end. If I want it accurate, I'll have to take it apart and put a radio and a shotgun inside it and I have the 1/18scale DPS decals for the trunk lid. I also have a set of resin set of gumb ball lights with a metal bar and brackets. I can tell you where you can get brackets to fix your GL light bars. The only thing I can't easily get is the dog dish hub rims. For that I would have to buy the MacGyver LAPD Caprice and that would be another $75 at least. LOL

Yeah, I'll never understand why all the 1/24scale GL light bars have rotators inside but these 1/18s don't. Why would you put LESS detail in your larger and more expensive models? /)_-
@RangerBravo20147 ай бұрын
Ha, I know, right? The 1/18 bars had so much potential! The brackets are literal pegs, meanwhile, Ertl and AutoWorld had much more realistic lightbars on their Dukes of Hazzard cars. Actual more realistic brackets, and the Twinsonic on the Dukes of Hazzard '75 Monaco actually had a amber section on the red side. Greenlight: We have pegs! Don't you like pegs? XD
@SilverSpoonRiche7 ай бұрын
@@RangerBravo2014 Oh the pegs, yeah I forgot about those. And you have to GLUE them if you want them to stay on, like what the buck? I pay up to $75 for this replica and I have to glue the light bar on? That's if it HAS a light bar. I've already commented on my TX DPS cruiser. LOL
