It's got a cop motor, a 440-cubic-inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas. AWESOME JOB REPLICATING THE ICONIC BLUES MOBILE.

NICE! Quick mnemonic for delineating between Big Block (361-440) Mopar and Small Block (273-360), distributor is in the front on Big Blocks, and in the rear on Small Blocks. Love the car! We called the Monaco's and Fury III's the "Glide Ride" in the 70's as they would glide over bumps, down the road, over shopping carts, Datsun's, you get the picture.. Oh one more thing, Fun Fact, the 400's were Big Blocks, they were 383's over-bored to get to 400 CID. Popular today to put a stroker crank, pistons and rods in, you come out with a 496 cid and about 700 HP, ON PUMP GAS! That would make that 4000+ pound Cop Yacht FAST!.

In 1994 I picked up a 75 Monaco Brougham 4dr hdtp for $75. Wrong car but close enough for the price. I gave it the BB paint job, stripped the interior, welded up a roll bar and raced it at Flamboro Speedway near Hamilton Ontario. We had fun. 3 years later I had the pleasure of meeting Dan Aykroyd at the CBC HQ in Toronto. Showed him a pic of the car. He smiled and said 'Shit, that looks like genuine fun!' Then he signed for me.

My memory is a little hazy, but there is a fair amount I do recall from my childhood. I grew up as a female loving and appreciating everything automotive (mostly classic, domestic). Somehow, a link I clicked on about the Blues Bros. vehicle used led me to the '74 Dodge Monaco (of the which I'd never heard). I just wanted to relate to you the sad story of my dad having briefly owned a 1966 Dodge Polara convertable, white. So pristine our small town parade committee asked him if they could use it for the homecoming parade. This was approximately 1974, when I was 10 years old. And my poor dad didn't have the foresight (or finances at the time) to hold onto it for the future appreciation. I could cry.

I had this model car back in the early 80's and it was a fantastic car. I loved driving it because it was so comfortable. It was a huge car and it drank gasoline like crazy and mine had a 360 ci motor but in my opinion it was still rather peppy. I had a 77 Fury before that and it had a 318 and was a bit slow for my taste but this car was really great. I love playing GTA-5 and I installed this car in the game as a police vehicle and it's loads of fun to use and brings back lots of great memories!

Bob, you are about the same age as me. I remember back in the 80s you could find these cars all day long for under $500. I had a 73 New Yorker I paid $100 that ran and drove in 84. Unfortunately, I think a lot of these 70s cars ended up in Demo Derbys back then. I think cash for clunkers also contributed to the shortages of them.

It has the horns on top as well, in the pic. But it's only one picture straight head on front picture. And it's on a stage do you get only the grill windshield and horn

Nice build Bob and crew. I know you know everything about building a Bluesmobile accurately, but I’d love to see one of these 74 Monaco’s with a 440 built into a cherry Mount Prospect police car way before Jake and Elwood got their hands on it. Just one built to look mint would be a nice change. So many of these cars were sent to the crusher because of the brutal lives they had, I’d like to see one sparkle and run perfect.

That’s definitely a 383 or 400…..the distributor being in the front is how you can tell a Big Block from an LA small block like a 360…they have the dizzy in back like a Chevy. If it’s a 400 it’s actually a more desirable block than run of the mill non HP tall deck 440’s….although they were a smog engine the block has a lot more material cast into the main webbing and because of that the 400 block has the strongest bottom end of all the Mopar big blocks.

Hmm if its got a 360 that is nothing to sneeze at, as they used those in the dodge diplomat cop cars they made in the 80's, and in the little red express truck, and they were proper rippers, hell in the nash bridges tv show apparently don's favorite cuda was the one that had the 360, not the 440 in it they used for the cruise by shots, as I guess the 440's so big and heavy it tends to make the cars that have them plow abit, and the 360's a good inbetween between a 318/340 series, and the 383 and up big blocks.
