SIKU restoration: 1030 VW T2 Pickup

Siku's Volkswagen Type 2 T2 Pickup had a longer life than the original European run of the ever-popular bus!
It spanned 1975, when the T2 was already eight years old, to 1989. The T2 had a slight facelift in 1972 which is what this 1030 Siku model is reproducing.
The model is beautifully detailed yet simple in its construction. It was held together by two narrow rivets at the rear, and each of the bug-eyed circular headlamps to the front. As the base incorporated the lights and the bumper, Siku rather tactfully omitted to include any further detailing to the red or green painted body.
Mine had been mistreated having been painted over by a former owner. They'd hit the windows and wheels as well as the body and pickup bed. And as ever, the wheels needed a redesign as Siku's print always comes off in a Dettol bath.
