What is it with Star Wars fans pretending the franchise is on its last leg, until a really good project comes along and suddenly it's hailed as its savior? Haven't we established by now that a mediocre-to-bad project doesn't, and hasn't ever, spelt Star Wars' doom? TCW "saved" SW after the prequels, The Mandalorian "saved" it after the sequels, now Andor is "saving" it because... what, a few underwhelming shows came out following Mando's hype? It's such a dumb narrative that keeps getting rehashed every few years and the fact that everyone just goes along with it is baffling.

Rogue One is very good. Andor is like if the movies Michael Clayton, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Blade Runner 2049 all had a baby birthed into the Star Wars universe. Seriously take the first 4 episodes together, roll the end credits, put it in theaters across the country and you’d have a possible Best Picture winner at the next Oscars. I’m not being hyperbolic. I really liked the new Dune a lot, although I understand the criticisms of people who didn’t think, but the first 4 eps of Andor absolutely clears Dune.
@expressrobkill
@expressrobkill 2 жыл бұрын
@@LtFrankDrebin100 eh, you like what you like. Bladerunner 2049 like the original wasn’t a huge success, people said it has nice visuals but it was boring and nothing happened. When really everything was happening, it just wasn’t all explained, allot of it was visual cues and building up an atmosphere. Im my opinion allot more interesting storytelling was happening (without anyone actually saying anything) than in most action oriented or sci fi movies. Its not perfect but theirs a reason blade runner spawned a whole genre and the new one still inspires films anime and games to this day.
@LtFrankDrebin100
@LtFrankDrebin100 2 жыл бұрын
@@expressrobkill LOL at saying Blade Runner 2049 was boring. It’s not Dennis Villenueve’s fault the American sci-fi audience has the collective taste of an emotionally stunted 10yr old. Ex Machina didn’t even hit $40million at the box office and it’s EASILY 1 of the 5 best sci-fi movies since the year 2000. Popularity and box office doesn’t reflect quality. Case in point: the entire Fast & Furious franchise
@expressrobkill
@expressrobkill 2 жыл бұрын
@@LtFrankDrebin100 deffinatly agree, i wasn’t as big a fan of ex machininima, but it was more the plot it Didn’t really challenge my expectations, sci fi is my favourite genre so i still appreciate it, really good examples are of corse arrival, annihilation, think id consider parasite a sci fi. One super niesh one i really like i think every sci fi fan should watch probably the best interpretation of this particular plot device is Primer. Such a clever film.

Andor is peak Star Wars. I never thought that New Hope or Empire would be topped but Andor is just completely on another level. Not a single Star Wars film including the great Rogue One has dialogue remotely on the same level as the first 4 episodes of Andor. The writing, acting and cinematography… Tony Gilroy is a genius. There won’t be enough room in the Best Anthology or Limited Series Emmy nominations for everyone deserving in this cast next year.

I agree. The dialogue is already the best out of any Star Wars movie/show. So is the acting. The visuals also look so cinematic for a Star Wars show. The soundtrack is also really good. It also looks like each episode gets better and better since episode 4 is the best one so far.

How could they cutt off narcos Mexico? Diego Lunas outstanding performance portraying Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo, was by far one of the best performance and show I have ever seen. Even tho many see ando as dark, you can clearly see that Diego luna is still holding back, when you watch him play Miguel in narcos Mexico he truly express himself in very intense realistic moments that cant be nothing than described as an masterpiece.

@@jackson857 how do you even talk about Narcos as a Mexican when the Cartels and majority of the figures thag were portrayed in the show are not only still alive but some still have influence? They just caught Rafa Cara Quintero after all. And Felix Gallardo while in jail is still the founder of many of the Cartels that are active. Even for Mexican Americans who might be a generation or two separate are still subject to threats of violence and intimidation by members of cartels. Diego Luna still lives and works in Mexico. So like… I dont blame him for not saying anything if he doesn’t want to.

I'm so glad they brought him back to kind of be our view point character through Andor. Smart move to pick him even if he's a less well known character. That's why it works though. We see who he became but it's as far as his history it's basically a blank slate that they can use to tell a wide reaching tale. Plus Diego Luna himself is an interesting performer and is capable of bringing something special and different into Star Wars.

I've seen people say Andor isn't as interesting because you know where he ends up but that's why it's such an interesting story. It kind of makes me think of, ironically, the competing "Star" franchise in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. In Captain Pike, we've known this man is going to end up in a pretty awful situation since 1966. He now knows as well and it's about what he does with the time he has and how he comes to terms with it. Cassian doesn't know he's going to get blown up in 5 years but he has to know that by joining the rebellion his life expectancy is considerably shorter. It's all about what he's willing to do for a cause he believes in. There's something dark in there that I hope they get into further. Like we've already seen him kill two people and we know that won't be the last. The reason I was so excited to see the evolution of his character is that first moment in Rogue One. He gets the info about the Death Star but gets caught by a Storm Trooper. In a somewhat similar situation, which I'm sure was intentional, he decides to kill the people who are going to get him caught. In Andor it means he needs to get out of there till the heat dies down even if they only chased him due to the zeal of one guy who actually cares about his job. In Rogue One he has to kill his friend so that a) He can get out of there and report the info. More importantly b) His friend isn't interrogated and potentially gives away what he knows about the rebellion. The even darker thing I didn't consider when I first saw it is that he probably could've bluffed his way past a single Storm Trooper but chose to kill him which inevitably meant he'd have to kill his informant/possible friend so by shooting the Trooper he put himself into a situation that would lead to him killing someone who just helped him. You can see the look on his face and it says so much. He's had to do some pretty unsavoury things to help the rebellion and it's broken him a little. I can't wait to see how all that unforlds.
