Great set up, thanks for the info. 1 question: What size (diameter) of hose do you connect to the filter?

Thanks for the infos mate. I will install something similar in my boat. Keep up the good work.

I may permanently install a version of it. Sometimes the diesel is sat in the tank for a while, I may even install a day tank with switch over just incase. After all I'm single handed most of the time. Thanks for leaving a comment, liking the video of you did and welcome if you subscribed. Let me know what you would like to see.

Thank you! Will all the links for DIY. One never knows how bad it is down there before. I may simply pump a little bit frrom the bottom of my tank with the oil change pump, and have a look at it. On my to-do list is a second raw filter unit and a tap to switch filter when first is clogged.

That's a very cost effective DIY set up, and very useful to watch - thanks. Personally, I'd always wear disposable gloves when handling diesel, plus any spillages are often hard to clean up (the diesel smell lingers). So I'd probably contain it all in a plastic container of sorts.

From my chef days I learnt that if you wash your hands with hot water then you end up baking the scent on to your hands, So I wash with cold soapy water which does the trick. Some jobs I wear gloves however I tend to poke holes in them pretty quickly so they tend to come off pretty quickly. Yeah can be a little messy and I am indeed a messy worker. :-)

very informative, you can definitely see the diesel has some water in suspension in the later stages of filtering

Firstly, I'd like to say thank you for taking the time to comment and like the video. It's great to see people's feedback so I can continue to try and make better videos. For later shots, I added some water to the samples to show on the camera a little more, which I then discarded the fuel

Sure does. It's the second time I had cleaned the tank. I did it last year, I have been burning more diesel and refilling more often as I had used the boat and the heater a lot more. It was scarry stuff having the engine cut out on the way into a harbour! Thank you for taking the time to comment, and extra thank you for liking and subscribing. Let me know what you would like to see.

I need something like this. But pickup needs to be big to pick up the jelly and get it to the filter. Bigger tank means less turnover of fuel so more chance for bug.

I have a friend who added a smaller fuel tank as more of a day tank. He has a power boat but doesn't go out too much. I've had a few friends use a fuel transfer pump to get rid of their diesel out of the tank rather than Polish it. :-)

Enjoying your videos, however I just want to point out that whilst polishing the fuel in the tank can only be a good thing, remember that you must clean your diesel tank internally for it to be of any real value going forward. The reason being is that following a sail in choppy or heavy weather a lot of contaminants that may have settled on the bottom of the tank are sloshed around and dislodged and it is only then that they are drawn into the engine supply line. No amount of polishing will prevent this as they are not being sucked up and filtered during the normal polishing process and only become apparent after being stirred up if that makes any sense.

100% I did keep scrapping around the tank with the speed pipe. There's no inspection hatch on mine, which I can fit my hand inside to clean/scrub away. I do use marine 16, and I may add a smaller tank to switch over. I'm not the only person who's had issues at the marina with fuel. A few of my friends have pumped out their tanks and refilled them discarding the old fuel. I may start filling up 20ltr jerry cans with bp ultimate or something. My rank is 140ltr so won't take long :-)

So I am curious about the flow rate of the fuel pump you are using. I believe the fuel filter system you are using is rated for 227LPM. It looked like your output was quite a bit more than that. Is this correct?

The link in the description is not the one I used here in the video and I do mention that I don't recommend that one, however I have the pump which is in the description which I used on another project which flows much better.

Clever cleaning setup. You said a "production" boat, what does that mean compared to say any other boat?
@serenitycoastUK

A production boat is a mainstream brand like Ford or Jeep. They are mass produced with boats. There are a few Jeanneau is my one. Beneteau is its parent company. You also have Baveria and a few others. They have a reputation of being more of an all-rounder marine hopper. But people travel all over the world with them. Just like people row across the Atlantic.
