I'm glad that ingersoll right impact worked for you. I bought it as soon as it came out and it broke in a few months of hardly being used. They gave me a hard time about repairing under warranty but finally did it - gave me some blah blah about usi g dirty air compressor at our dealership. Fixed or gave me a new one I can't remember because it's been around 10 years ago or more and that one lasted right until the warranty gave up. Later I saw they had a recall on them but I threw the thing in the trash already. A lot of money just to throw in a landfill.

hello in this case the popping sound would be permanent right? I have a Jag F-Pace 2.0D that had the same popping into the intake but it happened twice that it was running normal, no backfiring popping sound, so I guess it is not due to the camshaft being worn out right? could it be the hydraulic lifters or some electronic/sensor not working right? it runs well, engine check never came up, also no reoccurring fault codes, only had an EGR related code that I erased and didn’t come back but I also cleaned the DPF to make sure…any helpful opinion would be highly appreciated as I’m afraid I might take the emgine apart just to realize it was something else😅

Wow that #4 is toast. So what’s happening here is that the piston has already created vacuum in the cylinder before the valve opens causing a rush of air at once to flow through the intake, in turn causing the noise?

The exhaust gas is not fully evacuated from the cylinder, so when the intake valve opens a rush of exhaust flows past and produces the popping noise.
