Diesel Engine Sounds: Cummins ISX vs. Mack E6

The sounds of a 1989 Mack Superliner with an E6 engine and a 2007 Kenworth with a Cummins ISX engine. Which sounds better?

@@virtualtrucker26 especially the 237,300 plus and 350 4 valve, they do have their own sound, i road a coal bucket for years and that little 300 plus and 15 gears would pull with the bigger motors and out mile most anything, at least back then. I miss the smell of red high sulfur diesel, more cetane means more hp ✌️🇺🇸

That E6 dog sounds better than the ISX did. I do like to hear a good running N14 and my favorite is still a 3406 Cat. Don’t hear too many 1693’s clatter anymore!

the mack is all there proper bark plus the transmission whine as you put the power down, good job some keep running the older trucks and more people are slowly putting the older iron back on the road. definitely more mack vids please Mike

Not long ago, I worked for Gabrielli Truck Sales, the "home" of Mack trucks here in New York, and I loved driving the "old iron" around the property when they came in for service. I'm not proud of much that ever originated/came out of my home state of PA but Mack trucks is one of them. Not talking about that Volvo made crap starting in the early-mid 90s and onwards either. I'm talking about strictly older Macks.

Any old mechanical engine sounds good. Electronic engines just lose a little bit of the sound, but that could be exhaust system differences. I Have driven a 3406B powered farm dump truck and now a late 79 Mack with an E6 swapped in and it sounds damn good too. Gotta get the engine brake working, but it’s a darn fine old farm duty dump truck. The 12 speed and the Mack seem to do better in severe duty/off road better, though.

Cool Compression engines at their best Good job Mike maybe you could give your followers a brief explanation of how a diesel fires compared to a gasoline combustion engine if I remember it’s when the diesel air mixture is forced and compressed to the top of the cylinder then that forces the piston down unlike gas diesel fuel is more of a oil

My uncle is running the exact same ISX in his 2007 Peterbilt. It's a pretty good sounding engine, and pulls strong, but I can't convince him to put straight pipes on it.

If he straight pipe that ISX everything around him is in for a loud awakening. Cummins ISX are freaking loud straight pipe especially at 550hp 565hp 605hp. Surprisingly my favorite sounding engine. CAT/ Detroit are in second is Volvo fh16/ mack is loud too wicked loud Jacob's straight pipe is pretty nice

E6 Mack. The ISX is just too quiet and doesn’t have the growl. The newer X15’s with def epa approved crap don’t have a noticeable sound either but what other choices are available now? A few loggers I know are running Western Stars with DD15 &16’s. They seem to pull good but other than the fan you don’t hear them! I miss hearing Mack’s Cats and N14’s when they sounded like real trucks!

mack for sure if i had to pick E9 or v8 cat sound is best to my ears. cummins is garbage now. have a couple isx that suck since cat left, 1st gen cummmins isx is alright if your not fixing them, 3 gen is weak at factory specs even from new a 2014 isk 550 in a c500 was my dream truck was nice to look at but i would rather have any other motor. my personal favorites 400 big cam. cummins select plus 460, 3406 E cat.
