Great explanation!! That is a first for me, actually seeing how a mechanical diesel fuel injector works! Well done!
@WorkshopRebuild2 жыл бұрын
I appreciate it! It's always great to learn something new and maybe in the future you'll be able to save some diesel injectors yourself. It can get costly if you need to exchange the full injector. Most of the time, the nozzle body (tip of the injector) will tend to leak and ONLY this must be replaced. Thanks again, Enjoy your week
@daletustison8550 Жыл бұрын
Very Good, Thanks. No leaks showing. It runs smooth. I was just thinking about how the feed tube mates into the injectors and where the leaked fuel would go.
@WorkshopRebuild Жыл бұрын
I'm glad you don't have any leaks! The sealing mechanism in this case is a tapered fit between the high pressure fuel line and the injector body. Most of the time you will have diesel fuel on the top of your cylinder head or it sprays in the opposite direction, between the fuel line nut and the fuel line. Either way, when you have a leak it sucks... I hope your engine keeps on running nice and smooth. Regards Andreas

Thanks for a very easy to understand video explaining the workings of a diesel injector. I'm having problems with white somke from my VW T4 van and I have removed the injectors and now feel confident enough to clean them and test them myself. Hopefully it's a very simple fix like the injector seals.
@WorkshopRebuild Жыл бұрын
Hi there! Thank you for tuning in and leaving a comment! White smoke on diesel engines is most likely a sticky injector (stuck in open position and leaking) or even a faulty spray pattern (bad injector nozzle). I am not familiar with the VW T4 injectors, but if you have a mechanical injector like the one in this video, you should be able to repair it pretty easily. Make sure when you take your first injector apart that you don't loose any parts. Some shims and pins can be VERY SMALL. Regards Andreas
@frogmanbrabs Жыл бұрын
@@WorkshopRebuild Thanks. I tested the electrical connector yesterday and didn't get a reading so I'm thinking that could be the problem. The T4 has 3 mechanical injectors in cylinders 1,2 and 4 and an injector with an electrical connection in cylinder 3.The seals seemed in good condition when I removed them but obviously will need replacing with new ones and there was a slight build up of oil deposits around the nozzles. I have cleaned the 3 mechanical injectors but the one with the electrical connection will probably need replacing. Your video has helped immensely. Thank You.
@WorkshopRebuild Жыл бұрын
That‘s awesome! Oil deposits are normal for injector nozzles and with a little but of mineral spirit it can be removed. I wonder what the wires are for on injector number 3. is it possible that this is a cylinder head temperature sending unit? Some European manufacturers had weird alternatives to a coolant temp.sensor that was physically threaded into the cylinder head... Let me know if you get your engine up and running again with no smoke😃👍🏽

@WorkshopRebuild11 ай бұрын
Thanks a lot for your feedback! If your injectors are leaking or even if you have a faulty spray pattern, you can replace your nozzles. Most injectors have shims behind the spring, in order to allow them to open at the correct pressure. Sometimes you can reuse the old shims because they are the right thickness and sometimes you have to replace them with thinner or thicker ones. Let me know how it goes. Regards Andreas

@WorkshopRebuild2 жыл бұрын
You're more than welcome and thank you for tuning in, it's much appreciated! Before assembling the injector, you will want to coat all internal parts with diesel fuel. The diesel fuel will act as the lubricant in this case and it does the exact same while in operation. If you tend to store injectors for a longer period, you can apply a very thin film of oil around the nozzle parts. I hope this helps! Regards Andreas

Great video, thank you! Hoe difficult is it to find the pressure specs for a specific injector (Kubota 1G677-53903 , for example)?
@WorkshopRebuild15 күн бұрын
Thanks a lot! Here is what I found online: Operating (Injection) Pressure: This is usually around 140 to 160 bar (2,030 to 2,320 psi), though it can vary depending on the specific model and application of the engine. Opening Pressure: The opening pressure is typically set within the same range as the injection pressure, often around 140 bar (2,030 psi), but it can vary slightly based on specific calibration.

Great video! Are those injectors from your JD 855? I am rebuilding a JD 755 and was going to get my injectors tested but may buy a tester and do it myself. Thank you
@WorkshopRebuild Жыл бұрын
Hi there, yes this is the injector from my JD855 and they might even be the same as the JD755 injectors. If you want to test them yourself that can be done with a handheld injector tester just like the one in this video. Most common faults of injectors are faulty spray patterns (damaged or clogged nozzles) and leaky injector nozzles (worn nozzles). If you encounter this, you can replace the nozzle in most cases. I hoe this helps. Regards Andreas

@WorkshopRebuild Жыл бұрын
Hi there, thanks a lot for your feedback! Maybe you could use a fuel line from your Farmall 560 directly to this injector tester! If that's not the case, you could find an adapter from your fuel line to the injector tester fitting. If both of these options don't add up, you might need to get a custom fuel line made. (This will be the most expensive option). I hope this will help with your decision-making. Regards Andreas

Great stuff: did you reverse the wear side of the separator plate and if you needed shims, is there a designated value to raise the release pressure per shim? Do you add more shims to get your release pressure at the 2700 or are shims variable in size? Do new springs eliminate shimming?
@WorkshopRebuild Жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot for tuning in and leaving a comment! I did not need to reverse the separator plate, but this can be if yours is heavily worn. The bores of the separator plate line up whichever way you place it, so there shouldn't be a big issue...at least in this injector! The shims add more tension to the spring and this brings up the opening-pressure of an injector. Each shim was thicker by 0.06mm and this added around 50-70PS. Every injector is different, so your values may vary! These injectors are around 33 years old and I needed to add shims to reach the specified values. You'll never be above the pressure rating unless you add too many shims and that would be very bad for your engine anyways. Almost all injectors are shimmed, because the art of spring manufacturing still has tolerances and the easiest way to setup an injector is to add a shim or two. This is the cheapest alternative for all manufacturers and if anything wears out over time, just add another shim. I hope this will help along your injector repairs. Thanks again for your comment. Regards Andreas

I had new injectors installed in my 05 Cummins. How do I know they were installed right and will not leak where the feed tube is forced against the injector?
@WorkshopRebuild Жыл бұрын
Both mating surfaces (the taper on the injector and the taper of the diesel fuel line) must be clean and smooth. If these surfaces and dented, scratched or even mushroomed, you will have leaks. This happens when injector line nuts are tightened too much. For every revolution, your pump will supply fuel to your injectors and this pressurizes the lines. If you have a leak, it usually bubbles around the injection line nut...this is leaking. Your best option would be to smooth out the taper on the injector line with some hand tools or emery cloth. If that doesn't work, you must replace your line. If they don't leak, then you know the are sealing correctly. and your engine should sound nice and smooth. I hope this helps. Regards Andreas

10/18/2022 i bought 2 diffrent testors like youres from amazone when i pump up the injector to test for leaks , i close the valve -- that valve is now locked the psi in the guasge and is not reading the injector psi now.. if the injector leaks guage will not gow down , the psi in guage only reads the psi u pumped it up to be
@WorkshopRebuild2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your great question! According to you description you're doing everything right. Be sure to check your opening test psi and your leak test psi. Some injectors have different ratings (I just want you to double-check). To check for leaks: Pump your hand pump to your desired psi rating. Once reached, gently close the valve. Wait 10-20 seconds and if you see any drips or leaks within this time, your injector nozzle is faulty. Your gauge will start to lose pressure over a longer period of time (maybe 1minute or longer) and not immediately!! If you tighten the hand knob for your valve too much, it is possible that you damaged the internals of this injector tester. I have noticed that they are not the best quality, but with proper care one can test numerous injectors before replacing the o-rings interally. Let me know if you have any other questions! Regards Andreas

Does one have to use diesel for the test ? Another video also showed diesel being used but the host said it wasn't recommended. If not diesel, what ?
@WorkshopRebuild11 күн бұрын
This tester is specifically designed for diesel fuel injectors. The reason for this is to ensure the results align with factory operating specifications, allowing you to accurately evaluate your diesel injectors. Using the correct fuel, such as diesel, which has the proper viscosity and lubrication properties, is essential for obtaining reliable test results. Testing with any other fuel may lead to inaccurate readings. I hope this clarifies things. Cheers Andreas

Hello, sir! Just one question: I noticed that in the market, there are also cheaper test pumps without that wheel on the right. Will I be able to see if an injector is leaking with one of those?
@WorkshopRebuild Жыл бұрын
Hi there. I've never used one of those before, but I don't believe it will work to test for leaks. The hand pump only creates pressure for each stroke you pump. This means your pressure rises and drops and in order to maintain pressure, you must keep the pressure up. Therefore you must have a valve and trap the pressure between your injector and your hand activated valve. When the pressure is within this area you will look for leaks at your injector. The ones without a hand wheel valve are probably only for spray pattern testing only. I hope this helps you decided which one you want to get. Regards Andreas

How do you release the pressure from the tester when you're going to check the next injector? I tested one of my injectors and when I was done there was still some pressure in the tester (nothing crazy)that didn't go away and when I removed the injector, it squirted back. Is it normal to have some pressure still inside the tester while changing injectors?

To release pressure from the injector you can turn the knob on the right by 1/4 or 1/2 a turn. Allow the pressure to release by itself and do not turn more. Removing an injector under pressure is very dangerous. Be careful!

Hi Samantha, the diesel fuel injectors I tested in this video open mechanically (the fuel pressure overrides the spring tension, causing the injector to open). If your fuel injector has a 12V wire leading up to it, then it is opened electronically. Unfortunately, the way this tester is setup, it can only do mechanical injectors. I hope this helps. hi you have the knob on the right, whats for? how to use it thanks
@WorkshopRebuild2 жыл бұрын
The knob on the right is to increase the pressure within the injector tester. When you pump the handle, you want to have this turned open 1.5 turns to allow pressure to build up. Once you reach a certain number your injector should open. If you cannot see it correctly while using the handle, you can slowly close (turn) this knob to verify the number more precisely. If you check your injector for leakage, you will have to reach this value by turning this knob. An injector usually opens 50-100psi over your leakage test value. I hope this helps, best regards - Andreas
