What is the difference between the excitor and excitor stator? And which one is controlled by the AVR?

Excitor consists of stator and rotor. It's nothing but an AC generator on the same shaft of the main alternator. purpose of the excitor is to provide the dc current for the main alternator field winding. Excitor's stator is the field winding and it's rotor is the armature. when the engine runs excitor's rotor will produce an ac voltage. this ac voltage is then converted to dc by the help of rectifier and filter then this dc is used to magnetise the main alternator's field winding. Actually AVR controls the excitor's field winding. It's easy to control the excitor's stationary field winding. Main alternator Armature - stator Field - rotor Excitor Armature - rotor Field - statorr Excitor's armature and main alternator field are on a same shaft therefore we can connect the dc output of excitor to the field winding of main alternator without any slip rings or commutators

Diesel is chemical input not mechanical, when a current carrying conductor placed in magnetic field it experiences a force not an EMF. Emf generated if a rotating conductor placed in a magnetic field. Basics needs to be corrected.

Diesel is a chemical input, yes. But the diesel's engine's ROTATING shaft is a mechanical aspect and the component of focus when discussing DG. EMF is electromotive FORCE, so I don't really get your point. Correct me if I'm wrong.

@@Steifan10: (EMF) Electromotive FORCE refers to the voltage, not the (mechanical) FORCE.. @Nagesh Patwari: Here its a synchronous generator (its not a motor) principle..! Here, the Rotor is rotated (by Diesel engine) as well it produces magnetic field by external DC excitation (or can be a permanent magnet). So the (mechanically) rotating magnetic field cuts the stator circuit and produces a three phase EMF (normally known as voltage).. AVR controls regulates the fluctuations on output voltage, by controlling the (rotor) excitation voltage.. Governor control (aka Diesel engine speed control) regulates the supply frequency (which is usually 50 or 60 Hz).. kindly let me know if any mistake here!

@@Sarav456 I think I framed my argument too much as a joke 😅 I agree with you and I understand EMF isn't actually a physical force, but a voltage produced. I'm just not sure what Nagesh is trying to say. I think Nagesh may be confusing Fleming's left and right hand rules. The left hand rule is referring to induced FORCE (electric motors), but the right hand rule is is referring to induced CURRENT (electric generators). Correct me if I'm wrong here. Thanks!
