Its so clever when you abbreviate much talking about magnetism and faradays law of electromagnetic induction,and the rotation magnetic field....by just saying when the rotating electromagnet crosses the phase maximum emf will be induced ,this makes it so easy to understand especially for beginners,so well done ..congratulations👍

Thanks very much for the wonderful explanation.But i understand the magnetic field is created by wounding a wire around a pieas of metal or core at the rotor side to be able to induce a voltage into the conductor at the stator side,why is the wire at the stator side also wound around the metal pieas also?

We can also have a ( changing or rotating ) magnetic field with a permanent magnet. If the rotating electro magnet loses its power the generator still produces the same voltage. The generator then does not produce alot of power ( Watt ) but the same voltage. Now lets talk about the coil on the stator.. The person that made this video annimation does Not understand how Faradays and Maxells lows work... A coil just wants to stay as it is. If a coil ( now a talk about the stator coil ) detects a Change of a magnetic field the coil reacts. But first this , this animation is Wrong , when gives the stator coil the Most voltage that is at the time when the ( changing or rotating ) magnetic field to the coil is at is lowest . Then the Change of the magnectic field to the coil is the largest. So how produces a ( stator ) coil electricity or voltage and power.. A coil does Not like change. Now we get a change of magnetic field ( the rotating magnet of the generator ) . Now the ( stator ) coil wants ( and is ) to produce a magnetic field to eliminate the magnetic field that the coil is exposed to. How to eliminate that magnetic field is to produce its own magnetic field. Now the ( stator ) coil produces voltage and current and the current is needed the produce a reactive magnetic field, that is what the coil wants. I advise you to look up some information about Faradays and Maxells lows.

I also found this generators come in not one, not two, not three, but four parts generating the electricity, you got the stationary stator and the rotating rotor, and to transfer the energy the rotating slip rings and the stationary brushes!

No... never. A permanent magnet is not a strong enough magnet for the high power demands of a large powerplant. Also, a permanent magnet offers no control of the rotating magnet strength as does a DC electromagnet.

Ok but what makes the dc current to power to magnet?
@jesusnthedaisychain3 жыл бұрын
It's called "excitation," and in the exciters I've worked on, you have something known as the Permanent Magnet Generator, which is a ring of stationary rare-earth magnets surrounding a ring of rare-earth magnets attached to the exciter rotor. The field is generated initially from there and the exciter steps it up. The exciter rotor and generator rotor are connected with copper bushings at the coupling face.

The flow of current in the illustration of rotor excitation is wrong. Current flows from the positive terminal of the DC source and returns to the negative terminal. I know that electrons are actually flowing from negative to positive, but Ben Franklin did not know about electrons. Visualize the flow as positive carriers, or the absence of negative carriers.

The rpm of the generator connected to a steam turbine is constant inorder to maintain the frequency constant. But how the output power(in KWh) varies. Please reply anyone.
@RichardKarlson Жыл бұрын
The output varies by varying the amount of DC voltage to the rotor or 'field' coil. This in turn creates a stronger magnetic field so more voltage is induced in the stator windings to feed the increased load.

This topic has been done to death, I thought they where gonna go over the equipment. Like what's spinning the rotor? Steam? Water? A motor of some sort? What powers that? What keeps it's speed consistent for the frequency? What are they using to energize the electro magnet to induce voltage since this is the plant creating power? Where's that power come from? If this vid is on "power plant generators" then go over the generator system. Or just call the vid "another explanation of generator function... again" this has nothing to do with power plants ~specifically.
@calebschultz99352 жыл бұрын
I think this is how it works. The rotor, or the moving part turns the circuit through the negative and positive magnetic field of the stator, the stationary part. Sending in negative and positive energy through the circuit, traveling back and forth, to and from the generator, forcing negative and positive energy in and out of the generator producing electricity! Lastly the brushes connect the circuits from the rotor. switching during every rotation. In a way the stator and brushes both don't move when the stator does. So the flow of energy stays the same keeping the power going. Wierd!
@steveschulte8696 Жыл бұрын
Your concept of power flow is wrong. The instantaneous reactive power from the generator is the instantaneous voltage times the instantaneous current. This results in a real power and a reactive power. There is no commutation on the rotor rings. The rings are solid completely around, and there are multiple brushes on each ring to handle the high current needed to excite the rotor winding. Reactive elements in the load cause changes in the phase angle between the voltage waveform and the current waveform. Energy is stored between half cycles by the inductances of the stator and rotor. The power company would like to keep the phase angle to a minimum, so that they can extract maximum real power from the stator windings, which are limited in the magnitude of current they can produce.

This is not true. When a North pole enters a coil you start getting positive current, with the maximum reached at half way between the beginning of the coil and the middle. When the North pole reaches the center of the coil it is again at zero. Now the north pole begins to travel on its way out of the coil. This causes negagive current to start, reach it's max at midwar beween center of coil and end. THen head back to zero when leaving the coil. A full sign wave is completed when a north pole passes fully by the coil.

I’m a novice at this. So I’m wondering: Does North/South make any difference if intermixed? I’m just trying to learn about how to create electricity.
@anthonypape6862 Жыл бұрын
@@fairybeliever4479 yes big time. Although they are always together with AC you will get only the positive charge from DC due to the nature of our batteries. At 2:28 in the video you see 4:35 traditional sign wave the line that make a hump above a line labeled zero and dips below zero for this up and down parabola. The is + and minus charge as we have labeled it. (Positive is above the line) So for direct current from an AC source you need and adaptor or rectifier to let positive in and quickly shut off. And repeat.
