A lot of people are confused thinking you have to double clutch on your test, thats not true
@rirebel6029
@rirebel6029 Жыл бұрын
They made me double clutch at the school o went to bit I was driving b4 that and during that and my boss would ride with me sometimes and holler if my foot went anywhere near the clutch pedal lol he would always say the clutch is for starting from a dead stop or going into reverse that's it . When I took my test I floated the gears not even thinking about it talking with the test guy and I passed first try at 18
@dewboy13
@dewboy13 Жыл бұрын
It depends on the state, and even down to the examiner in some cases. Of the two states I teach students in, each state requires you to double clutch for your test. One of the states doesn't require it, if you are operating a synchronized transmission, but does require it on non synchronized transmissions.
@dewboy13
@dewboy13 Жыл бұрын
You can lose between 5 to 10 points for not double clutching. Each state is a bit different.

I took my CDL test in Arizona January 2022. Yes, you are required to double clutch. It is shown in the CDL handbook. You will be deducted points if you float gears.

When I started in 1979 I was taught by a old timer..I kept my mouth shut and listened. He told me slow and steady gets the job done. My first truck was a 1965 B-61 Mack twin stick. No power steering,no air just bare bones truck. I've trained a few drivers over the years. I had two awesome ladies I taught still running down the road. Trucking has changed so much over the years,but I enjoy it. Good luck to Emma learn everything you can and don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone.🙏🏁🇺🇸

It would be of great benefit to Emma to go for the complete package of endorsements. (i.e., Tanks, Doubles, and Hazmat) I have driven fuel tankers out here in Wa. state for more decades than I care to count now. Over all those years we have run into several truck repair shops including the manufactures' dealer shops that don't have a mechanic with hazmat, so we have to send a driver by to take the truck out for a test drive to see if they got it fixed right. That is very inconvenient and expensive when the shop is 40 miles away. I really believe that having the full package of endorsements would make her indispensable to any repair shop. And qualify her for a little higher pay scale!! Best of luck, Emma. Good Job Jax👍

I really wanted you to know how much I appreciate your show. I help assist a fuel driver buddy that’s down with stage 4 cancer and discovered your show trying to find something to lighten the mood. Man the show got us talking for eight hours straight with old driving stories and got my friend to let some of are old buddies over to tell stories and say goodbye. I’ve been binging you podcast while on the road this week and forgive me if you already talked about life insurance and investing in 401ks but if you haven’t maybe your brother might know a little more on the subject 😂 . We all say we’re in it for are family but to many of are trucking buddies don’t get around to the cheapest form of insurance for are family’s security. Not one of my friends said that they wished they had one more run or brighter lights they only talked about family and the ones that didn’t have insurance only tried to brush off the mess they were leaving behind knowing it was killing them faster.

That's a good way to get momma up one side and down the other my man. Emma is just too cute. I hope momma knows what is going on out in the shop and in the truck. Mine wouldn't go for this. Maybe you could have found her another female to teach her the ropes of the driving tests. No, the shifting lever up that high is just stupid. I would have left her alone by herself out in the yard and let her figure it out by herself, she knows what she needs to work on. She needs to learn on her own without someone standing in front of her making all the decisions for her. She needs to learn do to it all on her own by herself. That's the reason she just needs to be out by herself to figure it out on her own. it will take a while but she will be the better for figuring it out herself.

When I first started backing trailers my brain had a hard time comprehending to steer opposite. So I thought of a different way to think about it. Which ever way you want your trailer to go make the bottom of the steering wheel go that way. Now it's just second nature. So second nature that when I'm backing up my pickup with no trailer I steer the wrong way. Lol

Emma you did a great job plus I love your hat but where’s the seat belt? Back in the 90’s I worked for a tower crane co and we had a weird lot and backing to the crane to unload was hard. One day we had like 12 trucks to unload and a very nice black lady truck driver pulled in and I explained to her what she needed to do to get backed in and she had a help me face so before I got do you want me to back it in for you she was out of that truck and standing beside so fast all I could do was laugh but she was so grateful for the help and I hope she made a good career out of being a truck driver. Also I had many men drivers who couldn’t back in to get unloaded and I rode on the side step of the cab and told them when to turn to get them in. Good job Jax’s for helping Emma, giving back always pays off.

A lifetime ago I used to teach truck backing at a accredited CDL school anyway the first thing we or I taught was straight backing which is not that complicated but is you can get all out of shape fairly quickly it would take most students 3 to 4 days to master the straight back without swerving back and forth my set up was a 500 foot straight line of cones every 20 feet and you have to backup and run the or actually touch the base of each cone but not knock any cones over with tractor it’s actually very hard to do my technique is very basic as your backing up your hands and eyes move in the same direction until your hinge(tractor and trailer ) opens or blocks your view then your hands and eyes move towards other mirror there’s a lot more but we’re going long story short so once straight back is mastered we then go onto 90 degree blind side for non drivers that’s the passenger side which is by far the hardest to perform and my little tricks to make it easier like when pulling up to back in set yourself up for success by maneuvering trailer rear closer to where you want it before the back up even happens of course there’s a lot more to backing than a few words I’ve always taught that any idiot can go down a interstate it’s backing into a enclosed dock mid day to test your skills I think 90 percent of a CDL road test should be backing , straight, 90 degrees on blind side ,90 degrees on the left and hitting a dock within a certain amount of being off of square to dock cause in my book everything else is easy or less complicated I would even include a tight fit with jersey barriers at speed and only a few inches of clearance real world stuff instead dmv worries about proper order to connect hoses and trailer lights be good Jax most of all be safe my friend
