I really want to push the limits of this loco next time! Get it hauling a heavy load...any suggestions what and where-to? 😀 Note: I made a mistake at 12:02...shut off brake valve instead of keeping it open. Hence why train wouldn't move 😅

Yesterday, I hauled 660t (2xNitrogen Contracts) from Harbor to Food Factory, followed by a 500t Contract from Food Factory to City South West. Harbor to Food Factory took me 72 minutes (Bonustime was 74 minutes), most time spent on the hill out of Harbor towards Steel Factory, running there between 10-20 km/h. Out of Food Factory to the west, I was going a constant 10km/h in first gear until the switch to the south towards SSW. Just watch the weather during the inclines, you don't want to be late using sand when it starts raining, or you may lose all your momentum

55:00 the brake controls in this loco are non-self-lapping, that means you need to monitor the air pressure, it won't regulate itself. you basically left it to accumulate to the point of complete braking power. this is btw how brakes used to work, you regulate the pressure difference on your own: this loco (DM3) and the steam ones do it like this. the other locos have a modernized version: the self-lapping brakes, where the levers are sensitive to position and will regulate on their own. essentially, get used to monitoring the applied braking pressure (the red needle), regardless of the actual kind of brake controls, you never glanced at it even once, and that gauge is technically more important than the speedometer. edit: that said, the non-self-lapping brakes have NO position sensitivity, it's just 3 modes: add pressure, remove pressure, service/idle mode.

Great feedback, thanks 😎

No need to activate all handbrakes. If the cars are all connected, do just one of them. Two if it's something heavy.

I wasn't a big fan of the DM3, it was just slow and tedious, though it felt like it could be slow and tedious with a stonking big train behind it. Watching you throw it round and miss most of the gears out persuaded me to give it another go and wow what a load of fun when you stop stressing about what you're supposed to do with the gear levers and just drive it. I picked a couple of jobs (with loooong bonus times lol) that added up to around 200 tonnes and ran them from Food Factory down to the Harbour, had a blast, arrived at the Harbour in the middle of a nighttime storm with the loco brakes glowing almost white - do they actually catch fire ? - and will definitely be using this a lot more ! Oh yeah, watching you throw it round and miss most of the gears out also persuaded me to subscribe :)

Great to hear you're enjoying the DM3 and that I had a hand in helping with that! 😅 Glad to have you aboard, thanks for subscribing 😀 P.S. not sure about the brakes catching fire...I haven't pushed them that hard yet but I'll be sure to keep a lookout 😁

I managed to pull 600t without a problem
@sgxbot Жыл бұрын
the wiki rates it for 500t but it can haul more with just being a bit slower. compared to the de2 which is rated for 400t but struggles on hills with 200t its just a straight upgrade. and if you take into consideration that it doesnt add to your co pay its worth it. and on top of it its fun if you understand it and even more fun if you can play it in vr because its easier to operate the throttle and gearboxes at the same time

Maybe I just think differently but I don't understand why you did that whole thing at the beginning when you could have backed the whole train back gone forward to the left and then go back to the right and forward to the left again and turn the whole train around without having to uncouple, You can use the A 's like three point turns.

@HarmanMotorWorks, the brakes are non self-lapping, which means they only have 3 positions: 1. add pressure (on position) 2. hold pressure/neutral (middle position) and 3. release/remove pressure (off position). to use them you add pressure until you have the desired value, then return lever to middle position, to release, put lever in release position until you have desired pressure or brakes are released completely and then return lever to middle position. you have to put lever back into middle position when not using brakes or they will continue to add pressure, or continue to bleed off pressure (depending on lever position) until you have no more air in your reservoir. so, to recap, the 3 positions are: 1. add pressure 2. hold pressure and/or neutral 3. remove pressure

Actually DM3 seems to have a fourth setting that you have to hold the brake tap forward for - remove pressure *FAST*
@superdave6889 Жыл бұрын
@@KarolOfGutovo that’s probably a bail off brakes (dump brake pressure fast,as you said) setting. You probably use that when switching, so you don’t need to stand around all day reading the newspaper while waiting for the brakes to finish releasing
@KarolOfGutovo Жыл бұрын
@@superdave6889 during switching you can just keep the cars' tanks empty and only use the loco to brake, and I don't see how a fast release valve can help with releasing brakes (which are released when there is pressure, so releasing the pressure applies brakes)
@superdave6889 Жыл бұрын
@@KarolOfGutovo thank you for the information, so maybe the quick release is your emergency braking? like the "panic button" modern locos have?
@KarolOfGutovo Жыл бұрын
@@superdave6889 Maybe, idk. I just noticed that the brake has a setting beyond "air release" (which applies brakes) so I assume it's more air release since... well,, usually similar actions are placed in increasing order on stuff like this.

Game looks great. I'm still ticked at DEVs with having a 'sandbox' that required game play to use assets. Sort of a dumb move IMHO. Beautiful game though. So, congrats to them on that! If they ever come out with a scenery/track editor, I'll give this title the time of day. Great video. You should mention in your videos that you don't have a SANDBOX really. Money and license still required to gain access to certain assets.
@HarmanMotorWorks Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment, yes the sandbox mode is interesting. In my opinion it does allow some level of freedom when compared to say, the Career mode, as you can build you own train consists and decide where they start, but yes, the economy system and some level of licensing is still required. Thanks for watching and glad you like the video.

Thanks for the video. Not a good night to be out roaming the tracks. Maybe someone can confirm if this sim loco engine is petrol powered. It sounds like a petrol engine with a blown exhaust manifold gasket in the simulator to me. Obviously is supposed to be a diesel mechanical. Just curious.

I’m curious why someone hasn’t put a DE2/DH4 behind one of these and pulled something heavy, seems like they’d complement each other’s strengths and weaknesses.
@vsetenjoyer Жыл бұрын
Because it's a mechanical loco it can't double head, and it'd likely be far too difficult to manage both locos.
